victim's family speaks out about how they get ready for a murder trial. wjz eyewitness news at 4:00 starts now. hi, everybody. i'm mary bubala. >> i'm kai jackson. here's what people are talking about. >> we are following breaking news. two men are under arrest for planning a significant terror attack in the u.s. denise is in the newsroom with more on this elaborate plan. denise? >> the plot included the plan to assassinate a diplomat. one hired a dea to do this.

the plot dealt with the israeli embassies in washington. a high-ranking authority is behind the plot. >> a naturalized united states citizen who holds an iranian passport and was arrested last month in new york is accused of working with a member of the international revolutionary core. targeting the saudi arabia ambassador to the united states. >> the attacks were planned to kill as many people as possible. mary? >> all right, denise, thank you. and wjz will continue to bring you updates on this story throughout the evening. security breach over the nation's capital. fighter jets race to intercept a cargo jet restrained over space in washington, d.c. the f16s intercepted the aircraft and escorted the planes to bwi marshall. the pilot is meeting to find

out why the plane was there. so far, no charges have been filed against the pilot. recounting the moments, the police interrogation of dr. conrad murray is played in court. the tapes reveal how dr. murray told jackson's family about his death. >> reporter: jurors listened to the tape of dr. conrad murray's interview with police, recorded two days after michael jackson's death. >> were you aware of any other medications he was taking? >> i was not aware of any other medications that he was taking, but i heard that he was seeing a dr. klein, three times a week. >> reporter: on the tape, murray tells police he believes jackson was getting powerful drugs from a beverly hills dermatologist. >> when he came back, he was basically wasted and required at least 24 hour for recovery. >> reporter: prosecutors charge that it was dr. murray who

overdosed jackson with propofol and failed to monitor his condition. murray's defense team says it was jackson himself, who administered the fatal dose during the two minutes murray left to use the rest room. >> reporter: murray also talked about how jackson's children learned of their father's death. >> after they cried and cried and cried, then his daughter uttered a lot of words of happiness and how she loved her dad and didn't want to be an orphan. >> reporter: murray also talked about how he broke the news to jackson's mother and how he held her hand while she cried. >> dr. murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter and if convicted, could spend up to four years in prison. disturbing attacks. a local woman accused of using bleach as a weapon, goes before a judge. meganmeghan mccorkell has more on today's appearance.

>> reporter: today a judge refuses to reduce jefferson's $350,000 bail. she's charged with assault, theft, and malicious destruction of property. police say jefferson followed a woman into the lansdowne wal mart over the weekend and assaulted her with ammonia and bleach. medics raced along and brought her to hazmat. when more than a dozen people complained of eye irritation and trouble breathing, the two apparently know each other and have an ongoing dispute. >> hear from the intended victim's father coming up all new at 5:00. the suspect in the lulu lemon murder goes on trial in less than two weeks. and for the first time, we're hearing from the victim's family. jana murray was killed in may. her coworker is now accused. >> reporter: david and phyllis murray say from an early age, their daughter jana's life was filled with life and laughter. she loved dance, world travel, and helping those in need. she led an extraordinary life and had a future as bright as

her smile. until march 11th, when the murray family's world would unravel in a web of crime scene tape and a late-night phone call from lulu lemon's chief executive officer. >> there was a death at lulu lemon and one had been taken to the hospital. within about 10 minutes, she called us back to tell us that jayna had -- was the one that they had pronounced dead. >> reporter: within days, another shocking development. >> that they had made an arrest. and my immediate reaction was -- thank god. then when he said who it was, it was -- it was incompcomprehensible. >> it was baffling. just stunning. >> reporter: under arrest, coworker britney norwood, who police say lured jayna back to the store after closing time and attacked her with such

violence that each homicide detectives shaken. the believed controversy a bag of clothes that she had tried to steal. >> why would you murder someone over lulu lemon clothes? >> if britney norwood needed this so badly for whatever? >> jayna would have bought it for her. >> absolutely. >> she would have given it to her. she would have paid for it herself. >> the extended family is now struggling to find the new normal of their lives. the murrays are now preparing for the murder trial and bracing themselves for the likelihood that they will come face to face with britney norwood and her parents. >> it's horrible for us. it can't be easy for them. >> of all of the steps of grieving, i have yet to leave anger. i think if i had a chance to say something to her, it would be one word. why? >> the murder trial is scheduled to begin monday

october 24th. just a bit too far. capital police arrest a group of protestors inside the heart senate office building. the group is called stop the machine. and they storm the hart senate office building. protestors rush to fill the elevators and press all the buttons. demonstrators plan to block all rest room doors. stop the machine is distinctly separate from occupy wall street, though. some members do overlap. a significant endorsement today in the gop race in the presidential presidential nomination. new jersey governor chris christie is thoughing his endorsement behind mitt romney. christie announced this week he will not run for the nomination. his endorsement now means that his financial backers will send

crude oil prices fell nearly a dollar a barrel after opec cut its demand. the oil cartel also predicts no growth in demand next year. opec says the weakening world economy is taking its toll on man, especially in developed nations. debit card rewards are getting harder to find. rewards fell 30% over the past year. analysts say the government's new cap on debit card fees is leading many banks to eliminate their rewards program. and dollar thrifty is taking itself off the rental car market. they plan to remain independent. avis dropped and hertz didn't drop its offer. in new york, i'm alexis christoforous. a local charter school is once again being recognized for its dedication to healthy education. monique griego is there, as

mutalab sat there. he was labeled an al qaeda operative, determined to destroy all the people on his flight. prosecutors jonathan tuckle told jurors, the 24-year-old nigerrian went into the plane's bathroom, put on perfume and prayed, prepared to die a martyr. and abdulmutallab ignited a bomb, hidden in his underwear. the first witness described a loud pop like a firecracker. a man seated next to abdulmutallab yelled, dude, your pants are on fire, several times, but there was no response. passengers put the burned man on the floor. >> the defendant is representing himself in court with the help of a defense attorney. they made no opening statement to the three men and nine women of the jury. >> reporter: the judge refused to ban the word "bomb" from the trial. >> everyone assumes that he had

a bomb. the statute requires that the prosecution prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was an explosive device. >> reporter: but prosecutors allege before abdulmutallab got off the plane, he confessed to a flight attendant and another passenger that he was trying to blow up a bomb on the jetliner. >> reporter: manuel gallegus, wjz eyewitness news. >> abdulmutallab is charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism and murder. he faces up to life in prison if convicted. wjz is following a breaking story out of washington. just a few hours ago, the u.s. attorney general announces, the fbi foiled an assassination attempt on the saudi ambassador. kai jackson has more on who they say is behind the blot. -- plot. >> the international officials say it was factioned -- plotted by the factions in the department. they were attempting to kill the saudi ambassador to the united states with bombs. the attack was supposed to take

place in the united states. attorney general will take it. unknowingly tried to hire the dea. >> federal prosecutors say no explosives were planted and no one was in any danger. the iranian government has denied any involvement. a maryland man is once again asking to be released from jail. gary giordano is asking to be released. he claims robyn gardner was snorkeling and went missing. but police don't believe him. he also secured a life insurance policy on gardner hours before their trip. baltimoreans may get an up- close look at the inmate. a judge is allowing a request to go aboard a prison bus where

he was strangled. his parents say the guards failed to protect him and they're suing the state for $27 million. parker later killed himself in prison. a group moved to the upper east side today. and they're taking mr. message to -- their message to the front doors of some prominent millionaires. >> reporter: protestors from occupy wall street took their outrage to the upper east side of manhattan, one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country. >> we need to have our fair share. >> reporter: organizers called it the millionaire's march. they carried fake checks, symbolizing how much money the wealthy will save when new york's millionaires tax expires in december. their first stop was the home of media mogul rupert murdoch, whose $44 million trip lex towers over manhattan avenue. >> they were stopping at the homes of some of the most

powerful leaders. >> that includes david coke, hedge fund john paulson. the final stop, the park avenue home of jamie diamond, ceo of jp morgan chase. >> have a little compassion, man. you got a ton of money, why don't you donate it to charity? >> reporter: police arrested demonstrators at the hart senate building. >> reporter: and more than 100 were arrested in boston, where protestors were saying corporate greed has robbed the middle class. >> we're trying to call attention to the fact that we vote, we have a voice, and our voice has been taken away from us. >> reporter: organizers say wednesday will be another big day in new york. thousands plan to march in manhattan's financial district, calling for about -- better jobs. >> reporter: demonstrations have swept through on two dozen cities so far, including baltimore.

hi, kristy. >> hi, vic. hi, everyone. we still have some delays on the beltway. north side inner loop, now up to 15 minutes, charles street to harford road. and the outer loop, also struggling from york road to charles street in that direction. your average speed at this point, about 30 miles per hour. on the north side inner loop, we still have an accident at frederick, blocking the right- hand lane with a delay now back to the harbor tunnel throughway. and the accident remains in the right lane, blocking the traffic in the right-hand lane. and slowing from 29 to mare marriottsville road. and 195 jammed up to the beltway. and as far as accidents go, overturned vehicle in the towson area, dulaney valley road, at east seminary. and orleans street between endsor street and st. paul. also north calhoun at presbury street. let's take a look at the calhoun. it is starting to thin out there. this traffic report is brought

a chainsaw accident in a haunted house injures one woman in ohio. the woman expected to be scared but not harmed when she entered the haunted tour in cincinnati. a man with a chainsaw reportedly set the saw on the ground. but stabbed her foot by accident. she suffered a minor to injury. -- toe injury. a biker gets pummeled by an antelope in south africa. take a look. the biker was in second place when he took an unexpected hit. he was knocked off course. the cyclist suffered a minor concussion and whiplash. his helmet took most of the impact. the antelope was not injured.

prosecutors look for some in the search for a missing baby. they searched for a well under a deck at a vacant home. officers are looking for clues into lisa irwin's disappearance. they have raw news video. lisa irwin's parents reported her missing a week ago. police say they have no suspects in the case. two elderly women are killed after a car flips off a road. the vehicle swerved off the road and into the creek 50 feet below. the car landed upside down on the water. witnesses say the woman was driving no more than 20 miles per hour. investigators are inspecting the car. seven boaters are safe after clinging to their capsized boat and a cooler for nearly a day. one person and 80-year-old grandmother still missing for a day. ted scouten reports from south florida. >> it's incredible to realize that three men spent three hours clinging to this capsized

boat in rough seas. at the same time, three women and a child, held onto nothing more than each other and a floating cooler, praying for rescue. >> probably three or four miles ahead, looked like there was something in the water. >> reporter: captain jensen and his cousin roman, were on the water when jensen noticed trouble. >> i saw there was a guy waving. and i said, get ready: looks like we have a sunken boat and a person in the water. when we got closer, there were three people in the water. >> reporter: jensen threw hout life preservers. >> one guy put the life jacket on and came to the boat. the other ones were sweared and didn't know how to swim. >> that's when he jumped in to help them. they learned the horror was even worse. one man's mother died right in his arm, as they were waiting for help. >> he said he was trying to hold onto her. and i guess with the waves coming over, he couldn't hold

her up any longer, and she couldn't hold up any longer. and he had to let her go. >> reporter: the three women and a child floated off. they were eventually picked up by the coast guard. the seven survivors made it to shore, all suffering from hypothermia, jellyfish stings and fear. >> the little girl was crying and pretty hysterical. they took her mom up next. she was dazed and confused. >> reporter: the boaters were not wearing life jackets when their boat capsized. a new candy called potheads is causing controversy. the candy, shaped like marijuana plants are sold in the form of lollipops, sour gummies and ring pops. the treats are made in delaware county, and sold in bags that say legalize. the candies do not contain illegal drugs. anti-drug activists are not

happy. there is already a ban -- move to ban the candy in new york. a boy falls off his chair in arizona. doctors say the boy would have eye dood if the pencil would have gone just 1/16th of an inch closer. his parents say they were terrified. >> he was freaking out. because no one knew what it was. and we kept calling my mom. and she kept telling us, it was the tip of the pencil. and we couldn't figure out exactly what was in his eye. none of the doctors new. >> reporter: the 4-year-old suffered some eye sight loss. he is back in school and playing his favorite sport, which is hockey. men may be getting too much vitamin e. sandra hughes reports from los angeles with the results of a new study. >> reporter: ralph sanderson decided to be an experiment to

take a look at radar. just very light rain. just beginning to move into the eastern shore. most of it, not even reaching the ground. just a little too dry now. but down in virginia, there's a little bit of heavier shower activity. it's going to take a while to get here. but probably by 10:00, 11:00, we'll see some light rain drizzle. and overnight, the rain should pick up a bit in its intensity. and during the day tomorrow, we'll see periods of rain on your wednesday. and it will be cooler. right now, we're at 72 degrees. dew points coming up. humidities come up. winds off the atlantic ocean. that will bring in that moisture for the next day or so. barometer, just beginning to fall. 30.11 inches, barometric pressure. oakland, 66. looks like in maryland, the heaviest rain will be west of the mountains and southeast of our region.

maybe eastern shore in delaware. that's where the heaviest echoes are now. looks like the winds coming off the ocean will bring that moisture up. and when it hits the mountains, it kind of rises up and helps squeeze out the extra shower. higher mountain areas could see heavier rain. we're looking for half inch to an inch of rain. so it will be a wet wednesday, even into thursday. and probably still leftover showers here on friday, the way it looks right now. 71 in bel air. 69 in westminster. 71, rock hall, and kent island and annapolis. winds off the atlantic ocean. is that continues to bring in plenty of moisture. and the low pressure that we have been following, very hard to find this center. but it's generally over south carolina. and spreading that moisture. and some of it was actually a tropical origin down the caribbean. the moisture mainly offshore, as you can see. and a few heavier echoes down across virginia. that's going to move northward.

that's moving northeastward. in between, we'll get shower activity. it may congeal a little stronger over the next 24 to 48 hours. also, a front coming from the west. that will also help to bring scattered showers on thursday. friday. and then it clears out friday afternoon and friday evening. and cooler conditions, dry and sun come back for the weekend. east winds on the bay. small craft advisory on the bay tomorrow. bay temp, around 67 now. tonight, rain developing later on. 58 by morning. so milder night. tomorrow, back up in the mid- 60s. only with the rain at times. it can be heavy in a few spots. not a nice-looking wednesday. but as we said, we've had 8, 9, 10 beautiful days around the region. >> we sure have. >> this is it? once it cools down, it's going to stay that way for a while? >> the weekend is going to be nice. a lot of stuff going on this weekend now. >> what are you saying? should we bring out the heavy coats? >> i don't think you need the heavy coats yet.
