weijia? >> reporter: kai, as you said, fighter jets were launched very quickly to get that plane out of the sky. the government says it is cases exactly like this one that keeps the whole country on high alert and ready to respond. >> reporter: 6:30, monday night. a civilian plane enters restricted air space, above the nation's capital. >> although 9/11 happened 10 years ago, we still, first and foremost in our minds. and it's scary. >> reporter: the air force scrambles to send two fighter jets to escort the plane out of the area, forcing a landing at bwi thurgood marshall. authorities describe it as a general aviation aircraft that was out of communication. >> you are a trained pilot, that shouldn't be happening. >> reporter: less than 24 hours after that, federal and state security leaders came here to the university of maryland college park, to have an intimate discussion about the incident and ways to keep our country safe. >> homeland security really has to begin with hometown security. >> reporter: u.s. secretary of

they continue. we can tell you that pilot met with local authorities last night. we're live at bwi thurgood marshall. weijia jiang, wjz eyewitness news. >> weijia, thank you. the faa has not released the name of a pilot. she is accused of attacking another woman, with household cleaning products inside a local wal-mart. and today, she faces a judge. wjz is live at the baltimore county detention center. jessica kartalija, with more on what happened in court today. jessica? >> mary, you could call this a bizarre love triangle that turned very dangerous for one woman and a host of other shoppers caught in the crossfire. tonight, the defendant in that case sits behind bars. >> reporter: 33-year-old teresa jefferson is accused of throwing bleach and pine solo her ex-boyfriend, calvin pinel's fiance, in a lansdowne wal-mart. she and 18 other shoppers were taken to area hospitals for treatment. now, a judge orders jefferson's bail will stand at $350,000. >> basically, we're asking for

a bail that would assure the safety of our victims. i think the 350,000 will do that. >> reporter: charging documents, obtained by wjz, say the victim, ebony odems and parnell, had filed a restraining order against jefferson, saying she threatened odems, say she would blank her blank up. saturday's attack at wal-mart happened before that restraining order could be served. >> reporter: the boyfriend in the center of this bizarre love stri triangle, appeared for today's bail hearing, as did his father, but in support of the defendant, not his son. >> i'm not going to stand by my son when he's wrong. he's wrong, he's wrong. he had been missing with -- ming with that girl a long time ago. so why am i going to tand by -- stand by him? >> it really is wagging the tail of the dog when you think of the alleged family of the victim, ms. pinel, were here to indicate that their son and the other alleged victim, have engaged in a pattern of

harassment of ms. jefferson. >> reporter: parnell, who has a 6-month-old son with jefferson is accused of assaulting her two months ago. >> teresa is a nice girl. >> what does your son think about you being here today? >> he was shocked. he was shocked. >> reporter: parnell refused it talk with us on camera. a court date has yet to be set n. towson, baltimore county, i'm jessica kartalija, wjz eyewitness news. >> what a day outside that courthouse. well, jefferson is charged with assault, destruction of property and harassment. a tsa officer from baltimore county is facing child pornography charges. 41-year-old michael wilson is suspended from his job. police arrest him after they searched his home from perry hall. the tsa issued a statement, saying it aggressively investigates misconduct allegations. the suspect in the lulu lemon case goes on trial. for the first time, we're

hearing from the victim's family. jayna murray was murdered and her coworker is accused. >> reporter: her parents say from an early life, their daughter's life was filled with love and laughter. she loved dance, world travel and helping those in need. she led an extraordinary life and had a future as brighta her smile. -- bright as her smile. until march 11th, when the murrays' family world would unravel in a night of crime scene tape and a late-night call from the chief executive officer of lulu lemon. >> there was a death at lulu lemon and one had been taken to the hospital. within about 10 minutes, she called us back to tell us that jayna had -- was the one that they had pronounced dead. >> reporter: within days, another shocking development. >> that they had made an arrest. and my immediate reaction was, thank god.

then when he said who it was -- it was -- incomprehensible. >> yeah. it was baffling. just stunning. >> reporter: under arrest, coworker britney norwood, who police say lured jayna back to the store after closing time, and attacked her with such violence, it left homicide detectives shaken. the scuffle believed to be from a bag of clothing that norwood may have been trying to steal. >> why would you murder someone over lulu lemon clothes? >> if britney norwood needed this so badly or whatever -- >> jayna would have bought it for her. >> absolutely. >> she would have given it to her. she would have paid for it herself. >> reporter: their son and extended family are now struggling to find the new normal of their lives. the murrays are now preparing for the murder trial and bracing themselves for the likelihood that they will come face to face with britney norwood and her parents.

>> it's horrible for us. it i can't be easy for them. >> of all of the steps of grieving, i have yet to leave anger. i think if i had a chance to say something to her, it would be one word: why? >> the murder trial is scheduled to start monday, october 24th. a scare for dozens of people in howard county, when a gas leak forces them out of their homes. sky eye chopper 13 is over the scene in the 8900 block of tall street. firefighters responded to a call of a strong smell of gas. they discovered a contractor accidentally struck a pipeline while doing work in the area. crews issued a mandatory evacuation. bge says the gas line is now secure. clouds are moving in, as we prepare for rainy weather outside. it's overcast and showers are popping up. bob turk is tracking live doppler radar in first warning weather. bob? >> southeast of the baltimore region. a little light sprinkle activity over the eastern shore. very, very light. the heaviest stuff down across

east virginia. and it will take a while before it gets into the central maryland area. in the evening, maybe a spotty shower or drizzle activity overnight. that's when we expect the rain to really get going and during the day tomorrow. that means we'll have a wet wednesday on tap. to our north, there will be heavier rain across the mountain areas in pennsylvania and new york. and even sections of western maryland, some of the higher elevations, looks like they'll have some enhanced rainfall, maybe very isolated flooding up there with about two inches of rain. we're looking for a half inch to an inch of rains. looks like a wet couple of days headed our way. more than 100 people arrested in the occupy wall street movement. but the protests are still growing. and tonight, they're targeting some of the wealthiest people in the nation. drew levinson reports from new york. >> investors from occupy wall street took their outrage to the upper east side of manhattan, one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country. >> we need to have our fair

a powerful police interview with michael jackson's doctor, is played in court today. it reveals how the singer's children learned of their father's death. kendis gibson reports for wjz with the latest from los angeles. >> reporter: jurors listened to the rest of dr. conrad murray's taped interview, with los angeles police, recorded two days after jackson's death. murray said he believed jackson was getting powerful drugs from a beverly hills dermatologist. >> when he came back, he was wasted and required at least 24 hours for recovery. >> reporter: dr. murray -- prosecutors say that it was murray who overdosed the singer with propofol and failed to properly monitor him. but murray's defense team says it was jackson himself who overdosed in the two minutes he

[ kids screaming ] >> reporter: kids can't always control their excitement. but for these students, the frenzy is for good reason. >> because we're going to the white house to meet the president and michelle obama. >> reporter: kevin is one of the students from hampstead hill academy who hopped on a bus to meet the first lady. >> she's trying to break the guinness book of world records for number of kids jumping jacks. >> go. >> it's all part of michelle obama's let's move program, an initiative that finds innovative ways to get kids active. and these students seem to love it. >> it's an effort to prevent childhood obesity. >> childhood obesity has tripled in the last 30 years.

but the bulk of the rain is still across the roanoke area. down that way. shower activity. and south of norfolk. but that's also heading east of our region. this batch more roanoke, almost headed due north. late tonight, into tomorrow. in the meantime, lighter rain moving into central maryland. as i mentioned, probablial an inch to an inch of rain. can be expected across the baltimore, washington, annapolis region. take a look at temperatures night rite now. temperatures in the 60s with light rain activity down there. currently, around the area, temperatures close to 70. so another mild day. normal high is around 68. temperatures running a little more warmer than normal. but humidity has increased. so it's a little more sticky

than it's been. although at 70 degrees, you really don't feel it. east/northeast winds now. that continues to bring in moisture. clouds and showers coming in. this is an area that would have probably been named a tropical storm for a little while. but it didn't have a warm development like a storm. so it's never been named. although there is controversy over that. moving with that rain field she'd. still seeing minor circulation with it. winds coming off the ocean. there is tropical moisture. and that's all moving to the shore. in between, as i mentioned, doesn't look like rain. nothing too terrible. just a wet wednesday. low pressure. there it goes. kind of brings in this warmer air.

today, a trail of documents showing you the leak. >> reporter: when senator ulysses currie walked into the courthouse today, he was greeted by documents showing his connection to the company. prosecutors say he accepted $240,000 from shoppers over a five-year period. curie did not disclose what he calls an independent job. there are man charges of him trying to influence votes for shoppers. >> on the stand also, vice president for shoppers, talking about what senator currie has done for the company. >> enclosed is a list of what he has done with us. saying that currie has brought together state officials, helped speed development, and assisted in the transfer of a liquor license.

all 300 people on board his flight from amsterdam to detroit two years ago on christmas day. >> reporter: prosecutors say the 24-year-old nigerrian went into the plane's bathroom, put on perfume and prayed. and once the flight was in air, he ignited a bomb hidden in his underwear. the first witness described a loud pop like a firecracker. a man seated next to abdulmutallab yelled, dude, your pants are on fire, but there was no response. smoke started rising up, as passengers put the man on the floor. >> the defendant is respecting himself -- defending himself with the help of a defense attorney. >> reporter: in an earlier defeat for the defense, the judge refused to ban the word "bomb" from the trial. >> everyone assumes that he had a bomb. the statute requires that the prosecution prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was an explosive device. >> reporter: but prosecutors allege that before abdul

abdulmutallab even got off the plane, he confessed to a flight attendant and another passenger that he was trying to blow up a bomb on the jetliner. manuel gallegus, wjz eyewitness news. >> the trial is expected to last up to a month. the suspect faces up to life in prison if convicted. a copy of steve jobs' death certificate is made public. the report indicates that the apple cofounder died of respiratory arrest, resulting from pancreatic cancer. no autopsy was performed, and jobs was buried on friday. he died last week at the age of 56, after several years of poor health. a s.w.a.t. team raids the set of brad pitt's upcoming movie, calling it, quote, a disaster waiting to happen. hungarian police seized 85 weapons from the budapest set called world war z. it included ak-47s and sniper rifles. police say they launched the raids because it could have led to a deadly accident. president obama is on the road.

he is selling his jobs plan in the state. he hopes to win next november. danielle nottingham reports for wjz from capitol hill. >> reporter: president obama made his pitch for the american jobs act to supporters at a union training center in pittsburgh. >> right now, our economy needs a jolt. >> reporter: pennsylvania is a key state for the president's re-election campaign. he's pushing hard for passage of his $447 billion plan to turn the economy around. the package includes public works projects. unemployment assistance, and tax hikes on wealthy americans. >> it's a jobs bill with a kind of proposals that democrats and republicans have traditionally supported. it's a jobs bill that is entirely paid for. >> reporter: back here in washington, the jobs bill faces its first critical vote in the senate tuesday evening, where it is likely headed for defeat. republicans are already labeling the measure a failure. >> why on earth would you

surveillance video captures a violent robbery at a houston gas station. two men storm into the store and jump into the counter with handguns. you can see the in uninjured clerks scramble for cover. police caught one alleged robber who was hit in the arm. the other is on the loose. one woman is injured by a chainsaw inside a haunted house in ohio. this accident happened when a costumed man set the song aground and cut the woman's foot. she suffered a minor toe injury. >> i think the whole experience would have just as fun and just as scary, if you would have eliminated the chainsaw, the ax and the shovel. i mean, those people don't have to have things like that, especially in a crowded, dark environment, with kids running around. >> the woman says she does not plan to sue the operators of the haunted house. new york city leaders want to see a new candy, banned from store shelves nationwide. potheads candies are shaped like marijuana plants and sold

susan mcginnis reports for wjz. >> reporter: chicago marathon. 45,000 runners from all 50 states. and more than 100 countries. and somewhere, in that sweating sea of humanity, 27-year-old, 9- month pregnant, amber miller. amber ran the 26.2 miles sunday, in an amazing 6 hours and 25 minutes, beating husband joe by 19 minutes. and then, just a few hours later. >> i started labor soon after -- well, i thought it was labor, soon after the race was over, around 3:00. i was having a conversation with my parents the night before, saturday night. and i told -- i was telling them, you know what, i honestly have no plans of actually finishing. because obviously, i never -- well, i have run a marathon pregnant, but not 38 weeks. >> that's right. she was only 4 months along when she ran a marathon during her first pregnancy. >> reporter: on sunday, joe miller was supportive but nervous. >> what are you going to do if
