good morning, everybody. appreciate you joining us. good to see you. i'm terrell brown in for betty nguyen. it's been a night of reckoning for wall street protesters. in some cities where there are protests against corporate greed of spread, demonstrators were confronted by police. in seattle, police warned the protesters to leave the park they occupy and in denver they were ordered to leave a park near the colorado state capital. here in new york where the "occupy wall street" movement began nearly four weeks ago, police say they will force the protesters to move. they occupy a park near wall street. park owners say the conditions have become unsanitary. some protesters say they will have to be forced to leave. hazel sanchez has details. >> reporter: in undieing solidarity, members of "occupy wall street" march to city hall petitioning mayor bloomberg to plow through the park with an

the nypd and a cleanup crew tomorrow morning. >> i'm worried that people are going to get hurt. >> reporter: protesters have been cleaning up the park with soapy bedrooms and piling up trash on the curb. nevertheless, mayor bloomberg outlined a 12-hour plan to scrub down the park starting at 7:00 a.m. protesters can return, under certain conditions. >> they will be able to go back but they won't be able to bring back tents and sleeping bags and the other equipment that they have put in place there. >> reporter: camping gear is prohibited and protesters can no longer sleep on the ground or on benches if it interferes with others. legal experts say the city will be breaking the law if they bring in the cops to clear the park without a court order. >> they can excess their first aemed rights. >> reporter: tonight several city leaders spoke out in support of the occupation. >> it's up to the mayor and everyone at city hall now to change course and sit down with the people from "occupy wall street" and find a peaceful way forward.

>> reporter: many protesters say the movement cannot be stopped. >> i'm not too worried about it. it will go other places if we can't stay there. >> that was wcbs hazel sanchez reporting this morning. protest leaders say they have another manhattan site picked out if they can't return to their location. last night a candlelight vigil and a memory service for the victims in that salon murder. eight people killed on wednesday were remembered with flowers, f photos and tears. >> this is a wake-up call. this stuff is happening all over. it doesn't matter. no one is protected and you have to tell your loved ones you love them every day. >> police say scott dekraii walked into the salon and opened fire with a pistol. his ex-wife was among those killed. friends say they were involved in a bitter custody battle over their son. it took a jury just eight hours in new haven, connecticut, to convict a man in the gruesome

home invasion murders of a mother and her two doubts. joshua komisarjevsky and another man invaded the suburban home in 2007. jennifer hawke-petit and her two daughters were tied up and sexually molested and the house set on fire. the husband and father, william b petit was the only survivor and he had this to say to c komisarjevsky. >> i told him from the beginning he is a lying socially pathic. >> komisarjevsky faces the death penalty. >> politics now. a revolt of sorts by some presidential candidates. republicans in particular. including a threat to boycott the nevada caucus unless the date is moved back. the iowa caucus is scheduled for january 3rd. and nevada caucus january 14th and new hampshire are prepared to schedule their first in the nation primary for december. jon huntsman and newt gingrich and rick santorum and michele

bachmann say they will skip nevada unless the date is changed. at the white house, the president and mrs. obama hosted a formal state dinner for the president of south korea and his wife. the first lady wore a purple gown. in his post, mr. obama said that lee is nicknamed the bulldozer because he is unstoppable. he will travel with the president today as he pushes his jobs plan. back in washington, senate republicans are pushing their own very different program. susan mcginnis lays it all out in washington for us this morning. susan, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, terrell. the two presidents head to michigan today and talking about how the new trade deal will create jobs around the country and in the auto industry. meanwhile, here in washington, republicans are trying to gain support for their own very different job-creating ideas. just a day after praising a new trade deal with south korea. >> the korea free trade act we believe will create up to 70,000

jobs. >> reporter: president obama will head to michigan today with south korea's president to tour a gm plant that is using south korean parts. thursday, the president said the u.s. auto industry along with american farmers and manufacturers will benefit in particular from the new agreement. he used it to prove compromise is possible on capitol hill. >> this trade deal that we just passed shows that we are happy to work with republicans where they are willing to put politics behind the interest of the american people. >> reporter: but when it comes to creating jobs, president obama and the gop are still far apart. senate republicans are now floating their own jobs plan and it doesn't include a single item from the president's bill. >> the president's plan does nothing new. ours is the way to go. >> reporter: the gop proposal calls for repealing the president's health care law and requiring a balanced budget. it would also lower corporate and individual tax rates and

ease government regulations on businesses. >> this is a bill that can pass if the democrats will open their eyes and work with us. >> reporter: president obama says he is willing to work with republicans, but he's not giving up on his own plan just yet. monday, he'll kick off a three-day bus tour to promote it. now, in a phone call yesterday, house speaker john boehner rejected president obama's comments that republicans have not come up with too many job creating ideas. boehner said, oh, yes we have. a bill came out last may and 11 other bills have come up that never made it for the senate floor for a vote. terrell? >> the back and forth continues. susan mcginnis for us in washington, thank you. an investigation under way this morning into an airline crash in the jungle of new guinea that killed 28 people. four people, including the two pilots, survived thursday's crash. the twin engine plane went down in stormy weather about 12 miles from its destination. the crew radioed there was an emergency situation on board. french prosecutors dropped a rape case against dominique

he didn't quite work out to as well. the jumper wound up hanging from a tree a hundred feet off the ground and had to be rescued by a helicopter, after which he was arrested and now free on bail. verizon wireless informed customers of a change in its privacy policy. it can track customers locations what internet sites they use. it gives guides to preferences. customers can go to the my privacy page on my verizon's website. cbs news "moneywatch" time on a friday. a down day for stocks in asia but google's earnings are way up. we go to ashley morrison in new new york with those stories and more. >> reporter: asian markets lost ground today. japan's nikkei' hong kong's hang seng were down 1% a piece. thursday, disappointing profits from jpmorgan chase dragged stocks lower. the dow lost 40 points but the nasdaq was up 15.

google didn't disappoint. after the closing bell, the internet search giant said sales jumped 33% from july to september to just under $10 billion. profits easily blew past wall street's expectations. some big banks on wall street could soon see their credit ratings cut. the fitch rating service warned thursday it might downgrade bank of america and morgan stanley and goldman sacks, among others. in a statement, fitch said it's worried about the banks' physical health in the months ahead. the gap is downsizing. the struggling retailer announced plans on thursday to close nearly 200 u.s. locations. 21% of its stores by the end of 2013. old navy and banana republic chains which gap also owns will not be affected. at the same time, it is betting big on china. gap plans to triple the number of stores it has there by the end of the year.

it's d-day for the iphone 4is. apple fans in japan were the first on get their hands on the upgraded device today. here at home, hopeful buyers lined up outside apple stores. some have been camping out for days. the new iphone 4s is better equipped with a better camera and voice recognition technology. if all of the i-hype and blackberry blackout can't convince you what the power technology has over us, then this might. this 1-year-old apparently believes a magazine is an ipad because that's all she knows. she tries to pinch and prod and swipe across the pictures but that doesn't work. maybe when she grows up, she can read about magazines in her history books which of course will be on a tablet computer. >> she is probably ten years ahead of us right now. we just don't know it yet. >> exactly. >> appreciate it, ashley. you can throw the tradition out the window. british government wants to change the rules on royals succession.

here's a look at the weather in some cities around the here's a look at the weather in some cities around the country. time now for a check on the national forecast. the latest satellite picture shows storm clouds from the great lakes to the northeast. scattered clouds are flowing into the northwest along with scattered showers. southwest, southern plains, and southeast will have fair weather and clear skies. later today, gusty winds and heavy rains and possible severe weather will continue in the northeast from pennsylvania to maine. occasional scattered showers will fall in the northwest. southwest starting to cool down, back to normal, with temperatures ranging from the 70s to the 90s. in sports this morning, milwaukee has tied it up with st. louis in the national league championship series. the brewers ryan braun singled to the left side of the cardinals infield and driving in the go-ahead run in the fifth. milwaukee started randy wolf.

he struck out six, only gave up six hits in seven innings. the brewers win it 4-2 evenening the series two games apiece. game five tonight in st. louis. in the american league series, the tigers still alive. detroit's delmon young had two home runs and a solo shot in the fourth inning. a two-run blast in the sixth off texas starter c.j. wilson. justin verlander struck out eight in a 7-5 victory. tigers avoid elimination but texas leads the series three games to two. game tomorrow night in arlington. a british marathon runner has been stripped of his medal for cheating. runner rob sloan said it was tough race on sunday in northeast england. he had crossed the line as the third place finisher. unfortunately, for him, sloan was seen getting off the bus. he rode for the last quarter of the race. sloan may be banned from future competition. you know better! you do. when we return, another look at this morning's top stories. and a super hero unmasked,

on the "cbs morning news," here's a look at today's weather. intense storm system will bring heavy rain from the great lakes to new england. scattered showers in the northeast from washington to wyoming. much of the rest of the country will have sunshine. temperatures will range from the 50s to the 70s in the north. here is another look at this morning's top stories. ten anti-wall street protesters who refused to leave a park in seattle were arrested this morning. some demonstrators in a new york park near wall street say they will defy an order to leave this morning. they are camped in a private park. the park's owner say the conditions have become unsanitary and it has to be cleaned. president obama travels with the president of south korea to a general motors plan in michigan that uses south korean parts.

it's the president's ongoing push for his jobs plan. back in washington, the senate republicans unveiled their own job plan on thursday. to a story now that would have bruce wayne shaking his head. a self-proclaimed super hero in seattle revealed his true identity after a run-in with the law. jeff debois of our seattle station kiro reports. >> reporter: wearing his signature black and gold mask, phoenix jones enters the hall of justice. well, king county jail courtroom number two to be exact. seattle still proclaimed crime fighter in court this morning to answer for his actions in this video. the video, shot by a local production company following jones, as he tried to break up what he thought was a fight between a group of people. but the crowd turned on him. one woman repeatedly chased him and beat him with her shoe. jones fired pepper spray at a man who charged him and the crime fighter was arrested for investigation of misdemeanor assault and according to the police report, that supposed fight was a group of friends dancing and messing around. in court, jones identity was nearly revealed when the

so-called super hero was asked to follow the court's no hat rule like everyone else so he switched seats. a few minutes later, a judge told jones attorney no charges would be filed against him and the mask went back on. but not for long. >> no charges filed so i will continue to patrol. >> reporter: outside the court, jones revealed his true name and face to reporters. >> i'm phoenix jones. i'm also ben votto. i'm also a father and a brother and i'm just like everyone else. the only difference is that i decided to make a difference and stop crime in my neighborhood in my area. >> reporter: jones also known as ben fodder says he will continue his effort and even invited the seattle police to patrol with him. >> the charges were false. the video shows that. the court hearing shows that. i'm going to do what i've always done. i'm on the streets. if anyone wants to join me or help me out, send me a message and find me on facebook. i'll be in the streets. >> reporter: the seattle city attorney could still file charges against phoenix jones. they have two years to do so. i asked the seattle police department if they would accept
