moammar gadhafi last seen alive. rebels pushed the former dictator against a truck. he may have been trying to play in a convoy, when a rebel plane struck fraabove. neighbor -- from above. neighbors took pictures of a killed gadhafi to prove he's dead. >> fires shot in the air. and people celebrated on the streets of tripoli, to mark the end of 33 years of tyranny. leaders say the country is now liberated. president obama calls it a momentous day in libya's history. >> the new government is consolidating control over the country. and one of the world's longest- serving dictators is no more. >> reporter: the obama administration has spent $135 million to help launch the interim government. >> reporter: the u.s. also participated in the nato bombing operation when the rebellion began. when tripoli fell in august, gadhafi disappeared. >> the libyan people now have a

great responsibility, to build an inclusive and tolerant and democratic libya that stands as the ultimate rebuke to gadhafi's dictatorship. >> reporter: revolutionary forces still need to deal with fighters that remain loyal to the former leader, but without gadhafi, they see an easier path to the future. >> reporter: tara mergener, wjz eyewitness news. >> the transitional government says gadhafi's son is in the hospital, after fighters wounded and captured him. he is charged with murdering her daughter. vic is in the newsroom with more details in the horrific murder of a 12-year-old girl. >> reporter: police say david richard hang married a vietnamese girl and when he tried to divorce her, she refused. police say in retaliation, hang stabbed the woman's daughter, jessica nguyen to death. hang's dna was found on the

murder weapon. hang tearfully proclaimed his innocence in court. he is being held without bond. footprints and cell phone records also place hang at the murder scene. wjz speaks with neighbors shocked about this crime. coming up all new at 5:00 and 6:00. a call for tougher laws. an ohio town still reels today, after an exotic farm owner opens the cages and frees dozens of dangerous animals. danielle nottingham reports for wjz from swripgsville, ohio. >> reporter: -- zingsville ohio. >> reporter: the columbus zoo now captures the six animals captured from a private farm near swripgs -- zingsville, ohio. they say the owner released 56 exotic animals, then shot and killed himself. moments later, one of thompson's own animals attacked his body. >> mr. thompson did have a bite wound to his head area.

that the doctor said would be consistent with a bite from a larger type cat. >> reporter: deputies shot 48 animals on site. out of concern they would attack the residents of this small town. marge datson is one of thompson's neighbors. she said she'll never forget the sound of police firing their guns. it was kind -- >> it was kind of eerie. kind of eerie. i mean, it sounded like a war zone, so many shots. >> reporter: ohio's government has received a lot of criticism for not cracking down on the state's exotic pet owners. ohio has some of the weakest regulations in the country. and that is something the sheriff is fighting to change. >> i think the the citizens in the stay state of high -- the state of ohio are entitled to safety in place. >> reporter: the sheriff says there have been no bear sightings. so he believes one of the big cats may have eaten it. authorities buried all of the

body dead -- all of the dead animals on thompson's farm, at his wife's request. >> and today, two ohio state lawmakers proposed legislation, restricting the ownership of exotic animals. an inmate killed on a prison bus today. two correctional officials are dropped from a wrongful death lawsuit. phillip parker jr.'s parents say the state did not protect their son from another super max inmate in 2005. parker was strangled on a bus. kevin johns was found guilty but found mentally incompetent. a murder suspect on the run is captured in alabama. 37-year-old larry horton of hale thorpe is behind bars in mobile county. he's wanted for the hatchet murder of ryan jackson. jackson was reported missing on october 15th. his body was found saturday in the 5500 block of pennington

avenue. police are not revealing a motive for the murder. horton is awaiting extradition to maryland. an update today to a story wjz brought you first. the investigation into a sex tape scandal in baltimore city schools. a 14-year-old student is taped against her knowledge. and the tape goes viral. mike hellgren has more on her dad's outrage. >> reporter: the dad says this has been posted online for four days. and both he and his daughter are having a rough time dealing with the situation. >> reporter: video of baltimore city school students, as young as 14, having sex, recorded on school property, and posted on the internet, has led to a police investigation, an outrage from the father of the girl seen on that tape, which is so graphic, wjz blurred it. >> she was supposed to do that. she was harassed to doing this. then it spread like wildfire. >> reporter: the dad said his 14-year-old daughter never knew a camera was rolling and he was

stunned to see it on several social media sites, where anyone could watch. >> i viewed the site often. i didn't think something like this would be able to stand for a couple of minutes. if their privacy and protection is so great, then why was this posted and kept there? >> reporter: the students all attended frederick douglas high school in northwest baltimore. school officials say the sex tape was filmed after school, outside a building not used for instructional purposes. they told wjz, baltimore city public schools have received a report of an alleged sexual incident, involving city school students. an investigation by baltimore police is currently under way. in the meantime, city schools are working with the families of the students allegedly involved in the incident to make sure they receive the support they need. >> i was shocked. i thought it was terrible. i thought it was appalling. >> reporter: the girl's dad says it's an important reminder for parents to keep close watch of their kids. >> all will be monitored. i will know everyone who she

an update tonight on the house of horrors in philadelphia, where mentally- disabled people were being hept captive in a basement. police say the victim's injuries are gruesome, ranging from being chained to a droiler. the accused ring leaders are being charged. police say there are still no suspects in the case of a missing missouri baby. the parents of 10-month-old lisa irwin reported her missing october 4th. kansas city police say they are looking into more than 60 leads now. yesterday, police spent the entire day searching the family home, where lisa was last seen. as indy car drivers say goodbye to dan wheldon, so do

our people in uniform. >> we lost an ambassador. and in that, we have lost a good man. >> it's still tough to talk about the loss of his great friend. the fact that wheldon wasn't from the u.s. never stood in his way of driving the national guard car. when he wasn't on the track, wheldon was active visiting troops. as much a legacy as his two indy 500 winds -- wins. >> it's been an incredibly tough month for me. but it puts things in perspective. i feel honored to carry the colors. >> he made a comment to me one day and said, you know, i'm an englishman. and i can't tell you how proud i am to be wearing the colors of the national guard and going to those that go into foreign

lands and fight. and some give their life for our freedom. >> reporter: when he no longer drove the national guard car, wheldon was still their advocate. >> very honored to carry this. and we'll put this in the race car. >> reporter: he even carried the unit patch of the 219th from catter bury. >> the general, a governor, a private, he would spend as much time with whoever were to come up and want to get your picture taken with them. >> reporter: that generosity was not lost on these troops who said wheldon's support was more than just an ad on a uniform. >> he is the type of guy, when the lights went on, you were happy to be around him. >> reporter: wheldon, a two- time indy 500 winner, as we said, died sunday, after his car was involved in a crash at the las vegas motor speedway. he was just 33 years old. an up and down day on wall street. as we look at the latest numbers, the dow is up 37. s&p up 5. nasdaq down 5. let's go to alexis christoforous now for the money watch update. >> reporter: libya's oil industry may take years to recover, after the death of moammar gadhafi. 8 months ago, libya exported more than 1 1/2 million barrels per day. that's more than 2% of the world's oil. experts say even if little was done to the oil fields or insphra structure, political concerns will delay the industry's recovery. they say it could take 1 to 3 years before libya's output gets back to pre-war levels. applications for unemployment benefits fell by 6,000 last week. still too early to signal a healthy job market. layoffs are not getting any worse. shares of previously owned homes fell 3% in september. that put sales on pace to match

inside her home. all leads turned up nothing. her father is now putting up a reward, hoping the case will be solved while he is still alive. congresswoman gabrielle giffords is hoping people will have a chance to hear her thoughts on her recovery. giffords will read the final thoughts on her upcoming book. she has spent much of her recovery in private. a new study finds a significant percentage of children in the united states are on anti-depressants. weijia jiang is following the story from the newsroom. weijia? >> reporter: roughly one in 25 adlessents are taking anti- depressants. that figure for kids 12 to 17. the study also found about 1 in 10 adults take anti- depressants. and perhaps more should. the research said only one- third of the people in the study with symptoms of depression are taking medication. also revealed, women take more

appellant depressants -- anti- depressants than men and caucasians use them more than african american. windy weather. gusts up to 60 miles an hour. police had to close out a street. but no one was hurt. a live look outside right now at the weather here in baltimore. blustery earlier today. a bit breezy. and the rain has moved out. wjz has weather and traffic together. bob is here with the updated numbers from first warning weather. >> upper lake michigan. they have waves up to 20, 25 feet, with winds 40 to 60 miles an hour. our winds today get up to 31 miles an hour this morning. they're way down this afternoon. down only around 10, 12 miles an hour. things have changed. locally, nothing really in the way of precipitation. a couple of sprinkles and a couple of spots. to the north and west of us, that's where the low pressure is sitting. it's still spinning around. still causing rain over

detroit, columbus, as far east as the mountains in columbus. still cloudy. and a lot colder out there. i wouldn't be surprised to see a few snowflakes in west virginia tonight. for our region tomorrow, that low pressure finally moves it far enough away, it will take most of the clouds with it. we should still see a good deal of sunshine. it will still be breezy. but the really windy stuff and wind chill will be to the north. but it will be a little cooler tomorrow than we saw during the morning. in fact, around midnight. last night, this morning, we were in the low 70s. now, we're in the upper 70s. that's about what we expect tomorrow. >> okay, thank you. >> let's check on the roads now with kristy breslin. >> hi, vic. hi, everyone. the delays still building out there. now on the southwest side of the inner loop, we have a 15- minute delay there. to security boulevard. another 15 minutes on the top side inner loop. that's from the harrisburg expressway, to harford road. traffic moving at about 40 miles an hour. we'll also see some brake lights on the north side out loop in that direction.

lindsay lohan could be facing more trouble. today, she was late to her first day of community service at a los angeles morgue. here's a forecast of -- picture of her most recent mug shot. a judge revoked lohan's probation yesterday. she was ordered in april to serve community service for a shoplifting conviction but did not show up for nine appointments. lohan's next hearing is set for november 2nd. a fed-up flight attendant, who slid down an emergency chute of a jet blue airline was allowed to plead guilty to a lesser charge, after successfully completing a year- long treatment program. slater says he plans to write a memoir about his 20 years in the airline industry, as a tribute to overworked flight attendants.

a student accused of spying on his roommate. >> he turned down a plea deal that would have cut his prison time in half or even kept him out of jail altogether. he is charged with secret hemley filming 18-year-old tyler clemente while he was in the dorm room with another man. clemente killed himself days after the incident. >> trial is set to begin in february. a family in iowa watched true love unfold over the past seven decades. gordon and norma yeager lived their romance. emily price has the unusual love story. for wjz. >> just loved being together. everybody argues once in a while. but he said, i have to stick around until -- i can't go until she does. because i gotta stay here for

her. and she would say the same thing. >> reporter: it's almost as if they knew. >> last wednesday, they left home to go into town. somehow there was an accident there. >> reporter: at the intersection of highway 30 and jessop avenue, west of marshallstown, state troopers say gordon pulled in front of an oncoming car. >> i rushed to where i was working and saw him in the hospital. >> reporter: in the intensive care unit, nurses knew not to separate gordon and norma. >> they brought them in intensive care and put them together. and they were holding hands in intensive care. and with the morphine and everything. and they were not really responsive. >> reporter: gordon died at 3:38, holding hands with his wife. the family they built surrounded them. >> it was really change. -- strange. they were holding hands. and dad stopped breathing. i couldn't figure out what was going on because the heart monitor is still going. and we're like, but he isn't breathing.

he still has a heartbeat. and she checked and everything and she said, that's because they're holding hands and it's going through them. and her heart was beating through him and picking it up. >> it was still getting her heartbeat through him. >> reporter: at 4:48, exactly one hour after gordon, norma passed, too. >> neither one of them would have wanted to be without each other. >> reporter: at the funeral, norma and gordon held hands in their casket. they will be cremated and their ashes will be mixed together. virginia tech is appealing fines for the 2007 massacre that left 32 students and faculty dead. after two students were shot at a dorm school, officials waited more than two hours to send out a campus wide warning. that's a federal violation of campus safety laws. the school was fined $55,000. the gunman also killed himself. it is a moving reunion between a 6-year-old boy and his firefighter rescuer. the boy and 15 others were saved from a burning apartment

building earlier this week in boston. karen brown reports from massachusetts. >> reporter: an emotional reunion, between a boston fire lieutenant and a 6-year-old boy. >> this is your home, right? >> yeah. you lost your home but this is your home. >> reporter: he is holding the little boy he caught, after xavier laura was dropped from the third floor of his burning roxbury home early monday morning. >> what did it feel like when he caught you? >> it feel like -- feel good. >> reporter: xavier's grandmother was dang lim out -- him out the window, waiting for someone to help. >> when i let xavier go, he grabbed inn to at -- onto the windowsill. he was kicking and screaming. and i saw the officer there. and i let him go. >> reporter: today, xavier's grandmother didn't want to let go of lieutenant mcgillfree. >> please don't let him miss the catch. and i saw my grandson screaming as he fell. and he just fell right into the

and as the sun begins to set. in about an hour and 45 minutes or so. an hourie so. we are beginning to lose some of the clouds that came. we saw a lot this morning. then the clouds came back. with the clouds leaving. it will be a chilly night tonight. back in the low to mid-40s. if you're heading out later on tonight. take the jacket. 59 now. dew point is way down to 41

degrees. south/southwest winds at 12. earlier today, the winds had gusted up to about 30, 31 miles an hour. they had come down. the barometer, 29.58. on the way back up, it's cold out west. oakland now, at 36 degrees. and they do expect to see a few snowflakes, mixed in with rain showers tonight and again tomorrow. 50 in cumberland. 56 hagerstown. as you head all over the eastern shore, still in the low 60s, as you can see, much cooler out to the northwest of us. locally, around the baltimore region. temperatures ranging from the mid- to upper 50s to around 60 degrees. we still have a southwest wind. that typically is a southwest wind. it typically does not bring in cold air because it's coming basically from the southwest, which is a normally warmer place. this particular cold front that came through is way up to our north. so the winds still out of the southwest tomorrow. they'll shift more to the west and northwest. and that will allow somewhat cooler air to move in.

low pressure still standing over michigan. and because of that wind, you see our winds wrapping around, dragging a little warmer air, considering how cold it is up here. temperatures in the 30s and 40s. down here in the 50s and 60s. and that's what we're seeing. but eventually, as this low continues to pull out, our clouds will continue to leave. looks like a very nice fall weekend. as that low leaves, yes, sunshine returns. it will be cooler than it's been recently. but tomorrow's high temperature, about where we are now. upper 50s, maybe a few low 60s. not a bad end to the week and nice weekend. get out and make plans. do some stuff. gusty winds, still up to 20 miles an hour. generally, the west winds tomorrow. gale warning will be lifted at 8:00 tonight. because on the bay, we've had wind gusts up to 30, 35 miles an hour. bay temp, around 66. so tonight, let's call it partly cloudy, breezy and cooler than last night. we near the 60s last night. 44 tomorrow.
