today but these gruesome images sparked questions. the human rights office called for an investigation into what happened in the dictator's final moments. nato officials say they didn't know gadhafi was riding in the group of vehicles they targeted thursday. after the strikes, they said their actions helped the rebels. president obama has talked with french and british leaders about winding it down. in tripoli, libyans are still celebrating. traveling in pack starntion secretary of state hillary clinton says the u.s. is ready to help. >> i want to underscore the commitment of the united states to the libyan people as a friend

and partner. >> reporter: it will lab long road for libya as they try to build a society that functions as a democracy, not a dictatorship. they hope to hold their first election in eight months. >> the national transitional council said the interim leader plans to declare the country free. a man found guilty of murdering a johns hopkins researcher is expected to learn his fate this afternoon. sentencing just got underway for john wagner. >> reporter: john wagner is expected to be sentenced at any moment for the brutal killing of a promising johns hopkins' researcher. >> reporter: johns hopkins

research per stephen pitcairn was stabbed oned street. it took the jury only three hours to find wagner guilty. he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. pitcairn's family has said little. prosecutors relied heavily on the testimony of wagner's girlfriend, lavelva merritt who painted a chilling picture of what happened. it was july 25th, 2010 as the couple set out to rob someone. wagner stabbed pitcairn and the girlfriend punched him. the state's attorney's office has called this case a major victory getting such a dangerous criminal off the streets of battle. weijia jiang reporting.

>> wagner has previous convictions for assault, theft and violating probation though he was frequently allowed to romaine free until now. the trial is underway in the trial of a man in a murder-for-hire. walter bish top was hired by -- bishop was hired by karla porter. a man has been sentenced for murdering a teenager. jason gross will soon be sentenced for killing rochelle battle in the essex area. though believe this happened on march 6th, 2009. battle's body was burning in an incinerator. police say three baltimore county students performed a sex act on school property. mary is in the newsroom with the

community service at the morgue. that's on lindsay lohan's agenda today to serve community service. yesterday she was turned away when she got there 40 minutes late. she is due back in coartd -- court next month. the search for a missing missouri baby continues as police are looking into 60 out of stayed leads. 10-month-old lisa irwin was last seen sleeping in her crib. since then police have cleared 700 tips and leads. earlier this week police and the fbi spent an entire day searching the family's home. so far, there are no suspects.

cooler in the suburbs, of course, 46 near the inner harbor and brilliant sunshine, clear skies. 612 our day -- 62 our daytime high. we have breaking news. the man found guilty of murdering a johns hopkins researcher learns his fate. wjz is live outside of mitchell courthouse. weijia jiang has more. >> reporter: just about five years ago a judge sentenced 35-year-old john wagner to spend the rest of his life plus 20 years for the murder of stephen pitcairn, the johns hopkins researcher who was stabbed and left to die in the middle of the street while he was on the phone were his mother. his mother and sister addressed the court and talked about what a nightmare this has been urging the judge to sentence wagner to life in prison. wagner said he's innocent.
