how john wagner will pay, and the shocking things he said in court. eyewitness news at 4:00 starts now. hi, everybody. i'm mary but bal. kai is off today. here's what everybody is talking about. we begin with breaking news. two bodies found in a home in eastern baltimore. mike, what do you know? >> reporter: hello, mary. we know just observe noon, baltimore paramedics were called to berg river road, in the chase area of baltimore county. upon arrival, they found an adult female inside, deceased, obviously from gunshot wounds. they called baltimore county police to respond to the scene.

just a short time later, baltimore county police responded and found an additional adult male, also dead of gunshot wounds inside of this house in the 10,100 block of berg river road. they have called a crime lab. you can see they have the crime scene roped off. the homicide detectives have responded to the scene. at this point, they are investigating this as a suspicious death. and they have not released the names of the people that have died inside of this home. they have also called for crisis intervention team to respond to relatives of these people inside, responded to the house and apparently found at least one of the persons dead inside. the crisis intervention people are here to help the relatives. that's all we know from here. back to you on tv hill. >> all right, captain mike. thank you for reporting from sky eye chopper 13. we will update this story for you as soon as we have any new information. the other developing story wjz is following right now. america's war in iraq is over. today, president obama announces all u.s. forces in

iraq are coming home by the end of the year. danielle nottingham reports for wjz from washington. >> reporter: president obama says the iraq war am will be over at the end of the year. >> i can say that our troops in iraq will definitely be home for the holidays. >> reporter: the president spoke to reporters after a private video conference with iraqi prime minister nouri al- maliki. the decision is in line with a former withdrawal deadline president bush set in 2008 and it officiallyinds the united states -- officially ends the united states' involvement in an 8 1/2-year war. >> the united states will continue to have an interest in an iraq that is stable. >> reporter: they will continue to train iraqi security forces. but iraq leaders, still angry over civilian deaths and abu ghraib, refuse to give u.s.

police say carla porter hired bishop to kill her husband. stabbed to death while on the phone with his mom. today, a judge sentences the man responsible for the murder of hopkins' researcher stephen pitcairn. weijia jiang has more on how john waggoner will pay for his crime. >> reporter: john waggoner will spend the rest of his life in prison. but even moments before his fate, he told a judge he's innocent. >> just 24 hours before his birthday, johns hopkins researcher, stephen pitcairn was stabbed to death on the street while on the phone with his mother. it took a jury only three hours to convict 38-year-old john waggoner with his murder. on friday, the judge sentenced waggoner to the maximum punishment, life in prison, plus 20 years. >> reporter: since the beginning of the trial, pitcairn's family has said little, except that justice is served. prosecutor reslied -- relied

and in this neighborhood, yards from interstate 70, a black bear was shot near a local road. >> reporter: thompson did not leave a suicide note, explaining why he took his life, but there are clues. these indicate that last year, he owed the federal government more than $67,000. a lien had been placed on his property and his wife had recently left him. >> reporter: cynthia bowers, cbs news, zanesville, ohio. >> and thompson's wife tell police they took the animals because no one else would. and she told her husband at some point, no more animals. emergency funds. washington, d.c.'s mayor says he needs $15 million to restore the national cathedral. mayor vincent gray just finished a tour of the now- closed monument. they sustained significant damage in the 5.8 earthquake. stonework fell off the cathedral's towers. and some areas are severely cracked. the city hopes to reopen the cathedral, november 12th.

avoid another car. incredibly, no one was hurt. well, it will not bring back their child, but today, the family of a murdered child whose phone was hacked by a media empire, settled with rupert murdoch. millie was a 13-year-old british girl who disappeared in 2002. activity on her cell phone gave police and her family false hope when the girl had already been murdered. the fbi brings a canine dog to search for a missing girl in missouri. 11-month-old lisa irwin is now missing for two weeks. >> reporter: today, the house where baby lisa vanished, on october 4th, blends quietly with the neighborhood, except for all of the stuffed animals left in the yard. yesterday, it was a much different scene, as crime scene investigators, including the bomb and arson squad spent 16 hours on the property, digging

in the backyard, taking x-rays on the side of the house. kansas city police even obtained a search warrant to go in. but joe told the associated press, i don't know why the search warrant was needed. they can go in and out as needed. but they are not speaking to him. in the meantime, no new searches were done today. kansas city police detectives have cleared many leads. including 65 out of state that need to be ruled out. >> minutes ago, a police affidavit said an fbi cadaver dog created reaction of a death inside the home. we'll keep you updated on that. a big day to end the week

on wall street. the markets have been up for most of the day. the dow is up 267 points. s&p up 23. and the nasdaq is up 39. let's go to new york right now, alexis christoforous has tonight's cbs money watch update. >> reporter: stocks rallied to their highest level in two months after a fresh round of strong profit reports at several big companies. investors are also hopeful meetings this weekend in brussels, between european leaders will result in a concrete plan of action to tackle their debt crisis. the gains pushed the dow back into positive territory for the year and october is shaping up to be the best month in more than a year. mcdonald's said sales rose to 9%. business was especially strong in the u.s. and europe. new menu items, including smoothies and oatmeals help increase the bottom line.

they allowed somewhat dryer and cooler air to come in. although it's still kind of breezy. 10 in oakland. oakland with 36 degrees. and a 10-mile-per-hour wind makes it feel like 29 degrees out there. to our north, that low pressure finally -- i mean, finally pulling out. but it's still generating some winds and some cloud cover. it seems to be drifting through the mountains. kind of hard to see it. but they're a little layer of clouds came by the area. even to our north, a couple of sprinkles this afternoon. this would be typically in a month from now, causing snow shower activity, or lake-effect snow to our north. this is basically lake-effect rain showers. cool air picks up the moisture, goes uphill a couple of feet, into the mountain areas and squeezes the moisture out of it. just like a sponge effect. for our region, east of the mountains, it's been pretty dry. we've seen nice conditions. nice tonight. it will be chilly. a nice weekend all weekend long. a lot of sunshine. a bit of a warmup, next week.

milky white propofol, slowly dripping in the courtroom as the defense gets to cross- examine a key witness. karen brown has more for wjz from los angeles. >> from the bag -- >> reporter: a leading expert on propofol set up an iv line in court to show jurors what was in michael jackson's bedroom. dr. steven testified -- schaefer testified that it is highly unlikely that the pop super star woke up and gave himself another dose. >> people just don't wake up and give themselves more propofol. it's just a crazy scenario. >> reporter: the key witness repeat lead blamed dr. conrad murray for jackson's death. >> he has been entrusted by michael jackson to look out for his safety every night. and he has failed that responsibility. >> reporter: the trial has been going on for a month now. and next week, the defense will finally start calling more than

a dozen witnesses, including a propofol expert of its own, dr. schaefer's former teacher. >> reporter: dr. paul white has been taking notes in court. he's expected to back the defense's claim that jackson could have administered the fatal dose himself. lawyers for dr. murray are also expected to call character witnesses, maybe even the singer's long-time makeup artist. she claims the singer was in distraught and was in no shape to launch a comeback. in los angeles, karen brown, wjz eyewitness news. >> if convicted, murray could face up to four years in prison and lose his medical license. the defense says the case should be wrapping up by the end of next week. well, new trouble for casey anthony. mary is in the newsroom with more on a lawsuit filed against her that is asking for more than $100,000. >> denise, equisearch, the company that searched if are caylee anthony, wants to be reimbursed for the money it spent looking for the young girl. casey anthony was aquilted --

acquitted of murdering her daughter this summer. a judge is allowing the lawsuit, despite a motion to dismiss it. the lawsuit is also asking for casey to answer why she misled search efforts. >> so far, anthony has been able to dodge questions about caylee, by waving the fifth amendment. a 911 call captures the fear of a witness. >> what happened was we were having the safety meeting and one guy went postal. a woman went postal and pulled out an ak-47. >> was he in the meeting? >> yeah. he was in the meeting. but he just walked out and walked back in with the gun and just went crazy. >> armed s.w.a.t. team cornered the gunman after a day-long manhunt. they found the alleged shooter after he unsuccessfully tried to carjack a woman. the man was a truck operator at the quarry and was in jeopardy of being laid off.

some were injured. investigators are investigating motives. uncovering aircraft mystery. officials are looking for clues in debris from a plane crash that killed 11 in reno. the national transportation safety board says it has now found a memory card that may help them learn more about the crash of the damaged world war ii era aircraft. investigators are looking at evidence that something may have fallen off the plane when it crashed, nose-first, at reno airport. in tonight's healthwatch, for years, scientists have been studying whether cell phones can cause cancer. well, now, the biggest study to date has good news for cell phone users. and tina kraus reports for wjz from london. >> reporter: the possible link between cell phones and cancer is something that has worried people for years. >> i think that it is a link, frankly. >> do you? >> yes, i do. >> reporter: but researchers in

denmark say their new study shows long-term use of cell phones does not cause brain cancer. the largest study of its kind examined 350,000 people who used cell phones over an 18- year period. scientists found cell users were not at a greater risk of developing brain cancer. >> they didn't find an excess rich of tumors in their head or central nervous system tumors, which is reassuring. >> but london epidemiologist, paul elliott says more research must be done on people who use the cell phone for decades. >> reporter: about 5 billion people worldwide use a cell phone. and many say the convenience will always outweigh any potential health risk. >> you've got a phone. you use it. and that's it. hope for the best, right? >> so i text more than i talk. so i'm not really worried about it. . >> reporter: health experts say texting or finding other ways to keep your phone away from your head are always good ideas. >> use a hands-free device because you'll reduce the

exposure. >> reporter: danish scientists admit their study was somewhat limited because they examined personal accounts, not corporate ones. and business people usually spend more time on the phone. in london, tina kraus, wjz eyewitness news. >> now, some experts also recommend not keeping your cell phone in your pocket as a way to reduce your exposure. an investigation is under way after a deadly car crash in fells point takes the lives of two young people. the accident happened at the intersection of south broadway and banks street last night. police have identified the victims, morgan state university. two others were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries. city officials are now investigating and they say speed may have been a factor. missing for two years. today, police are searching for a dorchester county man. troopers say 39-year-old craig junior parker was last seen in the summer of 2009. state police were notified of his disappearance just last

week. parker is african american, 6' tall, weighs about 215 pounds. anyone with information about where parker may be is asked to call police, 410-899-4796. an incredible story of survival. a great white shark nearly takes a surfer's life. joel ewongoff explains from portland, oregon. >> very scary situation. >> reporter: nearly two feet of his search board are gone. friends are stunned at the shear power of a great-white shark that could have easily taken his life, along with his board. >> it looked like piranha, churring up the water. it just looked like a frenzy. then all of a sudden, i saw a two-foot win coming out of the water. then it liforted my friend up-- lifted my friend up about 10 feet in the air. >> reporter: ron clifford was surfing with friends when about 200 yards from shore, the 216- pound shark attacked, throwing

him off his surf board. >> i think i heard him say help. >> clifford explains how himless he felt-- helpless he felt. >> we made sure he paddled in. half his board was gone. and wanted to make sure he was still okay. >> reporter: and despite warnings of signs here at south beach state park, many surfers are undeterred by potentially dangerous waters. ron said his friend is shaken and won't head into the ocean any time soon, after a close call with a great white shark. >> word of the attack spread quickly. gum's children reportedly heard rumors at school that their father had been killed in the attack. gum says he is grateful to be alive. well, i would say not a bad october afternoon outside. we could use more sun. but it's dry, it's breezy. and it's fall. bob is here with the updated numbers from first warning weather. >> and the trees are really getting to their peak in many areas. it's been a nice day.

shoplifting probation. yesterday, she was an hour late. today, she was an hour early. a judge will decide if she will have to face further punishment. a baby's funeral is a fake. this is the sign a woman held while standing at a street corner in fontana. now, that woman and three others are behind bars for scamming people into making donations. police say the group made between $700 to $1400 a day. the scam lasted anywhere from six months to a year. police say some drug dealers make a stupid move by actually advertising what they're selling. monique griego has more on what got them caught. >> reporter: well, denise, police in oregon say the group actually handed out flyers that said, heroin for sale. the flyer included their names and addresses on it. neighbors took pictures of drug activity at the home and turned them over to investigators. they also gave the flyers to police, who carefully built their case against homeowners. and six people are now under arrest. denise, back to you.

basement dungeon, where four mentally-challenge the adults were in prison and starved, now has evolved into one of the most complicated hearings in family court history. >> all of the suspects are being held on a $2.5 million bail in philadelphia. it is being called a case of segregation on a new york city bus. in brooklyn, women are reportedly forced to sit in the back of the public bus. the bus serves a large population of hasidic jews who calls for men and women to be separated. however, mayor bloomberg says the bus service will be closed down if it continues to discriminate against women. it is a love story in iowa that is gaining attention worldwide. an elderly couple, married for 72 years, dies an hour apart, holding each other's hands in the hospital. why is their story so appealing? their son dennis thinks they know the answer. >> it's not about accidents happen every day.

rotation. and still bringing some moisture and clouds from the great lakes. great lakes is pretty warm. so this chilly air picks up that moisture. and as i said earlier, in a month or so, this would be just a lot of snow shower activity. but as the wind comes down the mountains, they tend to dry out. so we're not seeing the clouds that they're having out here. it's been overcast all day in pittsburgh, buffalo, syracuse, rarely sees the winter. in fact, syracuse only averages 20 to 25% of sunshine during the winter months. that is pretty brutal. i'll tell you. high pressure over the tennessee valley means a nice weekend. for us, lots of sunshine. cool nights. and nice, dry weekend on tap. tonight, then, look for temperatures down around 41 degrees. some suburbs. 36, maybe 45 in the city. tomorrow, back up to 63, with sunshine. pretty much all day long. maybe a few clouds drifting through. but all in all, a very nice
