player is out of trouble tonight. their principal has decided to reverse his vision. >> reporter: after kicking a winning goal against delaney high school earlier this week, and for performing this controversial victory dance on the field, punishment for perry hall's boy's soccer team came early. the school's principal, george roberts, forefitted the win and ended the season. but today, prohibits changed his mind. >> they will play. >> reporter: this week, his original decision started a firestorm. after parents called the burney dance, lewd and inappropriate behavior. >> my issue with the students wasn't the dance, the type of dance. it was more that the dance was done. >> there's no talking, no curse words, no touching of the private parts. >> reporter: perry hall parents and players protested and fairs book pages calling for a return

order to steal. take a look at the suspects. police say they dressed in dark clothing and displayed gold bagging. they were arrested after an officer saw them trying to rob someone in the 3200 block of baker street. when they were taken into custody, police also found bulletproof vests and fake guns. >> investigators were also trying to find out if there were more victims. anyone with more information should call police. and coming up at 6:00, we'll speak to one of the victims who helped crack the case will. the fate of a politician is now in the hands of a jury. right now, they continue. weijia jiang has the latest on the jury'serts -- efforts to reach a decision. >> reporter: kai, the jury continues to barrel through a tremendous amount of evidence and testimony to decide whether the senator will be vindicated or at that pointed as a scandalous politician. >> reporter: his reputation and seasoned career now on the

line, maryland state senator ulysses currie's personal and political future is out of his hands. a jury continues to deliberate whether the 74-year-old sold his power to shopper's food warehouse, for nearly a quarter of a million dollars. >> wjz obtained a copy of the very verdict they are working to answer. >> reporter: they will determine if he is guilty or not of extortion, bribery. the federal corruption case unfolded more than three years ago. fbi agent, armed with search warrants, raided his home and shoppers warehouse. >> they went into the house, room by room. >> reporter: the former chair of the tax and budget committee. helping to get the company to transfer a liquor license, getting traffic lights installed and getting millions

in grant money that would have benefited them. defense attorneys say currie always admitted that he worked for shoppers, but failed to note it in has ethpicks paperwork. but prosecutors say this was no accident, no mistake, this was intentionally concealing from the public his association to shoppers. and jury is deliberating a verdict for all three men. >> weijia, thank you. if curry is found guilty of all the counts, he could face more than 30 years in prison. wjz will bring you the verdict as soon as one is reached. we are also awaiting the verdict in the trial of michael jackson's doctor. jurors are behind closed doors, trying to decide if dr. conrad murray is responsible for the singer's death. karen brown has more from los angeles. >> reporter: jurors have over

300 pieces of evidence and the testimony of 49 witnesses to consider as they deliberate the fate of dr. conrad murray. seven men and five women must decide who is responsible for michael jackson's death. his personal physician? or the singer himself. >> reporter: prosecutors say the choice is clear. >> this is criminal negligence. criminal, gross negligence. >> reporter: they accuse dr. murray of giving too much of propofol. >> if you're going to hold murray responsible. >> reporter: they say dr. murray is only on trial because jackson was a superstar. >> is not a reality show. it's reality. >> reporter: during the six- week trial, jurors listen to an interview that doctors gave police. but they never heard directly from the defendant because he chose not to take the stand.

some legal experts believe that can have an impact. >> the truthful answer is yes. >> wow. >> it shouldn't, but it does. so many people and jurors, particularly, one have in their mind, well, if he was innocent, he would have explained what happened. >> reporter: the judge gave jurors lengthy instructions about how to interpret the law and advised them to use their common sense when deciding if dr. murray is guilty or innocent of involuntary manslaughter. in los angeles, karen brown, wjz eyewitness news. >> and if convicted, the judge will decide dr. murray's sentence, which could range from probation up to four years behind bars. >> police arrest a teenager connection with a murder at a chinese carry-out restaurant. 17-year-old mar kel jones is charged with fatally shooting a customer on monday in waverly. detectives say jones was turned in by family members. police are still searching for two other suspects in the killing of 52-year-old army

veteran freddie jones. a man is found dead in a burning garage in northwest baltimore tonight. wjz has learned the victim's identity. family members tell us alvin whitehead has died in the fire. investigators are now trying to figure out. how it started. >> america's unemployment rate has improved but not much. unemployment is down slightly to 9%. but the economy added just 80,000 jobs last month. and the federal reserve doesn't expect the unemployment rate to go any lower this year. and that, of course, is bad news for the 14 million americans who are still without a job. well, finally, it is friday, purple friday at that. and our gorgeous fall weather is making the best day of the workweek even better. the sun is shining as we take a live look outside tonight. wjz is live with first warning weather. meteorologist tim williams and bob turk, tracking our nice conditions now.

tonight, wjz uncovers disturbing new details in the murder of a the boy and his mom. -- a little boy and his mom. prosecutors say the man accused in the killings may have turned violent over a car. mike hellgren is live with the courtroom drama and the murder weapon used on the young victim. mike? >> william mcquain loved sports. they think it was his own bat. his dad asked for bail, the

judge turned him down. >> reporter: wjz has learned surveillance video from a gas station in montgomery county shows curtis lopez with a bat. prosecutors say he used it to kill his 11-year-old stepson william mcquain, just hours after he picked the boy up at a sleepover. video shows the little boy playing, never imagining these would be his last moments alive. >> the baseball bat used to kill him was found a short distance from the body. >> the reality is, it's not like tv. evidence like dna takes time to develop. >> reporter: little william's body was found in the woods and lopez fled the state. his lawyers say prosecutors have nothing against him, that their case is purely circumstantial. >> reporter: they say william wasn'ts his only victim. -- wasn't his only victim that he killed the boy's mother, as she slept. prosecutors call it ghastly

it is 5:30. 56 degrees and clear on this friday. good evening. and thank you for staying with wjz eyewitness news. here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. a maryland family is suing the baltimore washington medical center and one of its doctors after their sons legs had to b amputated. it happened after he was seen at the hospital with a fever and sore throat. >> i wish i were as strong as him. >> reporter: last december, 6- year-old eric flynn had a high

fever, swollen legs and hip pain. they say a doctor failed to give him a test for strep throat. >> when she mentioned that his tonsils were extremely swollen, i had asked it she would do a strep and she said there was no need. >> reporter: in a horrible turn of events, doctors had to amputate both of his legs to save his life. an undiagnosed strep ran through his body. they claimed a strep test was all he needed. >> they discharged eric with an erroneous, and really a garbage bag diagnosis. >> the hospital released this -- this statement. we are sorry for what they're going through. and we applaud their efforts. eric's symptoms were just not

consistent or indicative of this very aggressive condition. they say their son is a star soccer player, but still very active. >> he doesn't ask for help. >> the state law capped settlement payments at $655,000. several people are rescued from the water during a school field trip in harford county. sky eye copper 13 is over the scene of bush river. fire officials say the students were over a cambridge school. two adults and children were pulled from the water after their canoe capsized. several people come to the rescue of a woman being attacked in the parking lot of a cvs store in anne arundel county. police say 23-year-old zachary freeman assaulted a woman and stole her purse on fort small wood road. witnesses saw him running away, so they chaseed him and held

him down until officers arrived. face to face with lions and bears. a new report shows just how close police officers came to those exotic animals that escaped from an exotic farm. vic has details for us. deputies arrived to find lions and bears charging at them and running through houses and front yards. one deputy saw a charging black bear. another deputy shot at a mountain lion that was hissing and showing his teeth at him. it got up and started running towards him again. forcing him to fire several additional shots. the animal's owner released them from their cages before taking his life. still not clear why he did it. police have defended their decision to shoot and kill the animals, saying they were just trying to protect themselves and the public. for the first time, congresswoman gabrielle giffords is talking about her struggle after a gunshot wound

to the head. in a new memoir, she relearns a difficult process of learning to walk and talk over the past 10 months. the book, called gabby, a story of hope and courage, is written by her husband, mark. but she wrote the last chapter. firestorm continues for herman cain. today, one of the women who accuses him of sexual harassment breaks her silence. danielle nottingham reports for wjz from the white house. >> reporter: herman cain returned from washington friday to put his presidential campaign back on track. >> the american dream has been hijacked. but the good news is, we can take it back. >> reporter: cane has spent most of the week answering alleges of sexual harassment. friday, one of his accusers released a statement through her attorney. it has no details about what happened, but the attorney did

say the accuser complained about a series of inappropriate behaviors. she stands by the allegations she made in 1999. so far, cain's fight to fend off the allegations doesn't seem to be hurting his campaign. the latest washington post, abc poll, shows cain and mitt romney nearly tied at the top of the republican field. >> reporter: cain insists he never sexually harassed anyone. he's blaming rivals for attacking his character because of his unexpected success. >> for now, republican voters in iowa seem willing to give cain the benefit of the doubt. >> i do worry sometimes, is this true? or is it something someone is trying to do to knock someone down? >> reporter: cain's campaign say its is moving on from the allegations and credits the media frenzy for giving them a financial boost. a spokesman says they raised more than $1.2 million dollars since the story broke. at the white house, danielle

students now have a brand-new place to learn. 4-year-old elijah loves this new space. his mom says they're less cramped in these two new classrooms. >> it's a great working environment. it's very bright. they have a lot of room. and i just think it will be a great addition to the school. >> reporter: these two new classrooms have freed up space in the main building, where now fifth, sixth and 7th graders are utilizing the two extra rooms. the mayor and city ceo, dr. andres alonzo, took a tour of the $1.2 million facility, paid for by about six years of saving by the charter school. >> more and more researchers shows the important of early childhood education, especially pre-kindergarten. >> hoping to point these young learners down the right path. >> pre-k is the start of years to come. it's a good foundation.

the five suspects on board were arrested by police. a registered sex offender breaks into a day care center. and police say when they captured him, he was wearing a bikini. jacqueline policastro reports for wjz from ingdianapolis. -- indianapolis. >> wearing handcuffs, his long, dark ponytail sniped off. >> all i have to say is i'm sorry. >> reporter: a 42-year-old robert brennerman was captured wearing a child's pink bikini, after breaking into the kid's scape day care center. police say he changed into several little girl's swim suits before changing into his own clothes and leaving. brennerman said he brought the suits with him. he's now charged with criminal trespassing and for resisting law enforcement, after police had to chase him down near his apartment. >> i have a fetish for women's

clothing. >> reporter: while brennerman admitted he likes to wear women's clothes, he's not unfamiliar with this jail garb either. he's a registered sex offender, has also been charged in an unrelated burglary, and just got out of jail on october 28th. >> all i have got to say that i'm sorry. i didn't mean to hurt anybody. and i wasn't even trying for any of this to happen. >> reporter: brennerman's trial is set for december 22nd. trying to make amends. today, jet blue starts giving out refunds to passengers on five planes stuck on the tarmac. the jet the were grounded in last weekend's snowstorm. the head of the airline posted a video apology on you tube. customer service representatives. a dramatic scene at a mall in massachusetts, where an accused tries to jump to safety. the man threw himself over the railing and landed on a store below. and landed two floors below. the suspect lost a shoe in the process and left his shirt on the roof of the store.

witnesses say mall security guards were trying to pull the man back up when he slipped. >> they had him by the hood. and he just kind of slipped his way out. and his shirt came off and everything and he fell. he did it to himself. literally did it to himself. they tried to stop him. >> the suspect tried to make a run if it. but -- for it. a unique getaway vehicle. surveillance tape shows the man zooming down an alleyway moments after he robbed the convenience store in west virginia. police arrested the man earlier this week and towed his wheelchair as evidence. he now faces breaking and entering charges. a surfer and a couple of kayakers get a big surprise. take a look at the video. you can see, yes. giant humpback whales jumping out of the water, trying to catch fish so close to them. humpbacks usually feed farther offshore. but scientists say weather
