heard that guilty verdict in court. while there were some dr. conrad murray supporters here and police lined up in anticipation of violence, so far no confrontations. although one michael jackson fan had to be taken away by ambulance to a hospital. >> we the jury -- >> reporter: there was a gasp in the courtroom when the guilty verdict was read. >> guilty of the crime of involuntary manslaughter. >> reporter: after less than nine hours of deliberation, jurors decided dr. conrad murray was responsible for michael jackson's death. prosecutors argued murray caused the super star's death purchasing more than 4-gallons of propofol and administering it michael jackson. and then failing to monitor him and failing to call 911. when prosecutors blamed murray for leaving michael jackson's

children without a father. murray admitted he routinely gave michael jackson propofol to help him sleep. dr. murray was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs his sentencing will take place on december 29th. now just a couple of seconds ago, joe jackson the father, the pay patrioarch of the family just got into his car. waiting for the rest of the jackson family. when the sentencing takes place, the judge could send dr. conrad murray to prison. he could lose his medical license as well. reporting live from the criminal courts building in downtown los angeles, i'm sandra hughes, back to you. >> again as you heard the judge could sentence dr. murray up to four years in prison, as well he could lose his medical

island's small jewish community. politics have repeatedly called for his release. his wife says she is touched by the ongoing support. a scandal continues to rock penn state university. first the former assistant coach is accused of sexually abusing children. now two other officials are failing to turn themselves in for failing to report the abuse. >> reporter: penn state's formal athletic director and the former vice president have turned themselves in to authorities. the 67-year-old retired coach was arrested saturday on charges he targeted eight boys over a 15 year period. he faces 40 criminal counts, ranging from inappropriate

touching to statutory rape. prosecutors say sandusi prayed on boys he met through a charity he founded for at risk kids. in 2002, a graduate assistant says he saw sanduski assaulting a ten-year-old in a shower at campus and alerted coach satorno. the two men say they did not wrong. shultz lawyer says the charge did not pertain to his client because he did not see the assault. >> you follow him when he was coach, he was doing so many things with the second line. and you are kind of like proud of him. >> reporter: sanduski who is

free on bail denies the charges. >> sanduski denies all the charges, he faces two years in prison. the city of baltimore is threatening to pull the plug on future grand prix races. city officials say racing development owes $1.5 million for city services provided during the labor day weekend race. the city has a five year contract with the group but says if the group does not pay up, it will flow out the contract. officials have yet to comment. a student is stabbed to death while trying to break up a fight at frostburg state university. mike hellgren reports from the frostburg campus. another student is facing murder charges. many here are reeling from this murder. a judge denies bail for the accused killer. courtney mccoy was stabbed in the head and neck after a vicious fight. the 19-year-old was from baltimore. graduated from poly and had a

reputation as a peacemaker. she died trying to break a fight leaving those on campus stunned. >> great personality, everybody talks about her. >> i can't believe it actually happened. >> reporter: police arrested shanay ligins for the murder who's still in jail with no bail set. she was a business major and lived in the dorms where the fight started. >> courtney got to the hospital and went to each and every person at the hospital and let them know what had happened. >> reporter: ligins told him someone else stabbed mccoy, but pictures from the bloody aftermath led to the charges against him. this is the second student on

learn his fate as jurors decide whether the evidence proves grocery chain shoppers food warehouse paid curry $1 million in bribery money as prosecutors allege. they say curry used his power to benefit the grocery store. traffic lights near certain stores and an attempt to get millions in state grant money. but prosecutors say that curry's work was legal. he said that he paid taxes on shoppers money and that he's an honest man who never made any political appearances on shoppers behalf. monday afternoon jurors asked the judge a single question

it's 5:30. 62degrees and clear. good evening, thank you for staying with wjz. updating the breaking news from los angeles. a jury returns a guilty verdict in the trial of dr. conrad murray. adam is live right now with the developments. >> a stone faced murray showed no emotion when the verdict was read. murray was taken away in handcuffs after the verdict was read. murray served as his personal physician at the time of the death. murray gave him the sleeping aid propofol say the jury. that was in combination with two sedatives.

here is what the l.a. district attorney had to say moments before the moment. >> a strong and powerful message that this sort of conduct does rise the level of criminal negligence and to the extent that someone dies as a result of their playing dr. feel good they will be held accountable. sentencing will now be set for october 29th. >> murray's medical license will be automatically suspended. a fire that led 17 people homeless in baltimore county is ruled an accident. the flames ripped through a building on perry hall on friday. fire investigators decided the fire began on the second floor condo. all of the displaced residents are staying with friends and relatives. a judge makes key decisions regarding the case of a cocksville native murdered at the university of virginia. attorneys for the man accused

eligible for parol after 7-1/2 years. a woman days after a helicopter crash. >> reporter: hariette was visiting new york city from england. she was one of five people on board a helicopter that plunged into the water last night. dickerson's daughter and friend also died. her husband survived aid long with the pilot -- survived along with the pilot. the pilot reported problems right before the plane went down. a fourth woman is accusing herman cain of sexual harassment. today she told her story in new york city. cain's campaign is calling the accusations false. >> reporter: a woman is publicly accusing herman cain

a massive die off of oysters in the chesapeake placing livelihoods on the brink. alex demetrick report some water men are already calling it quits. >> reporter: every oyster season will turn up empty shells and dead oysters, but this year. >> some of the bars were 100%

a new survey find a larger

number of sexual harassment in middle to high school. many said the harassment affected their study habits and willingness to attend school. only 9% reported an incident to an adult. more evidence is linking newer birth control pills to a higher risk of blood clot. pinkston reports from new york on the latest study. >> reporter: 35-year-old misha edwards started taking birth control pills five years ago knowing they could increase her risk of blood clots. >> i was a little bit nervous about that. >> reporter: now more research shows blood clots are more likely for women taking newer birth control pills like yaz or yazmin. they found those taking the so called next generation of pills which contains a synthetic hormone are at much higher risk for clots than women taking older drugs.
