inside the courthouse where basically they expressed their gratitude to the jury and their well wishers for the jackson family. there was a gasp in the courtroom when the guilty verdict was read. >> guilty of the crime of involuntary manslaughter. >> reporter: after less than nine hours of deliberations, jurors decided dr. conrad murray was responsible for michael jackson's death. prosecutors argued that jackson caused the death by buying 4- gallons of propofol and administered it to jackson. then failing to monitoring and failing to place a call to 911. defense attorneys called their own witnesses who said michael jackson gave himself the deadly doze. this crowd has been waiting all day to hear the verdict. each time one of the jackson family members has walked

through that line and into the car, a huge cheer has gone out. >> justice is done here. >> reporter: dr. murray was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs, his sentencing will take place on november 29th. now during that sentencing hearing the judge could decide to sentence conrad murray to up to four years in prison. and of course he stands to possibly lose his medical license as well. reporting live from the criminal courts building in downtown los angeles, i'm sandra hughes, back to you. >> all right thank you very much sandra. jackson's mother katherine jackson says she was confident this would be the outcome of the trial. there's shock and sadness, a student is fatally stabbed while trying to break up a fight. mike hellgren has more on the charges against another student in reaction from the campus. >> many here are reeling from

this murder. a judge denied bail for the accused killer. courtney mccoy was stabbed in the head and neck after a vicious fight at a house party just steps from the strau sburg state university. the 19-year-old had a reputation of a peacemaker. she died trying to break up a fight, leaving those who knew her stunned. >> a big personality, everybody talks about her personality. >> she has this personality that could make everybody smile. >> insane, i can't believe it actually happened. >> reporter: police arrested 23- year-old shanay ligins for the murder. she's a senior business major and lived in the home where the fight started. >> courtney's mother arrived at the hospital where she went to each and every student individually that was in that waiting room and gave each of them a hug and let them know

what had happened. >> police say ligins told them someone else stabbed mccoy but witness testimony and pictures from the bloody aftermath led to the murder charges against her. this is the second student on student killing in the last two years. >> i share your outrage, your alarm and your grief that somebody like this has happened at frostburg as is this entire university community. >> reporter: mccoy loved to sing and was in a gospel choir on campus. now her voice is gone and the community is asking how could this happen. university police say they monitored troubled off campus party houses but this was not one that was on the list. mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. what happened to courtney mccoy has happened to others like yeardley love and christopher comings in virginia. they went off to college to never return again. how can we protect our children

when they're away at school. wjz is still gathering details but we have confirmed one officer fired at least one shot. sky13 was over the scene. right now we don't know who the officer was firing at. we do know one person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. no officers were hurt and police remain on the scene at this hour, denise. >> thank you, mary. we will bring you more information on this story as we get it. another day of intense evaluations in the trial of governor curry. derek valcourt with more on what that note said. >> reporter: the jury has been sent home for the day but as you said not before sending out a note with a question that appears to show how this jurily is leaning and if that is true, it is not good news for senator curry. >> senator are you feeling

confident about this trial. >> no comment. >> reporter: 74-year-old prince george's county senator curry waits to learn his fate as jurors decide whether the evidence proves grocery chain shoppers food warehouse paid curry a quarter of a million dollars as bribery as prosecutors allege. they said curry secretly used his political power and influence to benefit the grocery chain including a state deal lowering rent. legislations to allow shoppers to transfer a liquor license, stoplights near the grocery store. but defense attorneys argue curry's work with shoppers was perfectly legal and not a secret. saying he hired attorneys to help him draft a consulting contract for shoppers. that he paid taxes on shoppers money and that he's an honest man who never made any political appearances on shoppers behalf.

his failure to disclose his work has required they chalk up to a paper work error by his wife. jurors asked the judge a single question about the bribery conspiracy act and two checktives from shoppers food. if we believe the conspiracy was not in effect in 2002 or even in january 2003, but we believe started later, could we find any of the defendants guilty of the crime. and the judge told them they could find the defendant guilty. i want to lay out how much evidence this jury is up against. they asked the judge if they could have a catalog of all the evidence.they have so much paper work they find it difficult to find things. they were asking for a catalog of all the evidence.

jury is going to have to resume tomorrow morning. derek valcourt, wjz news. >> curry faces up to 20 years in jail or rather in prison if convicted. new calls for the immediate release of maryland businessman allen gross who has been in jail in cuba for more than 20 years. this vigil is being held in the cuba intersection in washington, d.c. he was arrested for spying. he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison. the city has a five year contract with organizers with the baltimore grand prix. but the says if the group does not pay them $1.5 million they

are owed, they will not honor the contract. and more from the team on this fantastic victory. >> can't seep to -- seem to get enough of this. harbaugh and the team still flying high today after a vick -- victory that could carry them a long way to their ultimate goal of the super bowl. the ravens say their road to a championship must go through pittsburgh. the usual hard hitting rivalry included a critical fumble by joe flacco and butter fingers for some ravens receivers. >> not a simple catch but a catch that has to be made. >> reporter: before this one slipped away, the ravens got a grip, flacco let it rip to cap a magical 92-yard scoring driver which gave the ravens a win at pittsburgh 23-20.

baltimore city voters go to the polls tomorrow. voter turn out is expected to be light. >> reporter: suppose you held an election and nobody came. >> for some reason the citizens are not exercising that right to vote. >> reporter: board of elections director jones predicts a turn out of less than 15%. >> i would say 10 to 12% which is very bad and very low. >> reporter: the three city wide races for mayor council president and controller were most likely decided in the september primary. though only the controller is

ravens fans all over the city are enjoying the team's big win but a mysterious sneaky fan is showing their spirit on tv. these purple flamingos just showed up near the wjz studio. and they are just showing their pride. >> no real flamingos were harmed. let's take a look at the beautiful weather that will continue at least for the next few days with 56. the dewpoint now in the mid- 40s. still 63 in cumberland. 51 51 pax river. beautiful weather, we got up to 69 degrees today. our normal high is 60. our normal low is 39. this morning we were 33 at the

airport. 59 bell air, 54 annapolis. still 60 at last report for westminster and 68 over in washington. very light southerly winds. now overnight tonight the winds are quick once again. we had a lot of fog in some areas this morning. in fact, frost and fog in a lot of areas. tonight we will probably see more fog in some regions away from the city. maybe near the cities. south winds will be very light tonight. that will keep us in the warm air for the next couple of days. temperatures again tomorrow. upper 60s, maybe getting to 70 in a couple of spots. now to the west, shower and thunderstorms activity through oklahoma. for the west, a little area of rain and snow mainly in the higher elevations there. flagstaff had some snow and phoenix had rain down in southern portions of arizona. in our part of the world, main area of low pressure heading to the west. a little bit of it will pass our region we think on thursday

handcuffs, murray will remain in jail until his sentencing. jurors found that jackson gave jackson the drug propofol then failed to monitor him, then did not call 911. there was some speculation the family would hold a news conference after the verdict but that has been the only public comment so far. denise. >> thank you, mary. the judge could face dr. murray to four years in prison and he could lose his medical license. there is more fall out from the sex scandal in penn university. drew levinson reports from pennsylvania. >> reporter: penn state's former director have turned

themselves to authorities. curly and shultz are accused of covering -- he faces 40 criminal counts ranging from inappropriate touching to statutory rape. prosecutors say sanduski prayed on boys he met through a charity he founded for at risk kids. in 2002, a graduate assistant says he saw sanduski assaulting a 10-year-old at a shower on campus. he alerted schultz. sanduski spent three decades with the lions before retiring

in 1999. helping paterno score the most wins in division history. the allegations have stunned penn state fans. >> you follow him when he was a coach and he was doing so many good things with the second line. and you were kind of proud of him. >> reporter: sanduski denies the charges. drew levinson. paterno does not face any charges and may be called as a prosecution witness. more allegations against republican presidential contender herman cain. but this time the woman gives forward and gives specifics. monique gallegos has the specifics. >> reporter: during a news conference in new york she talked about meeting with cane to discuss employment. during this meeting she says he fondled her and tried to move her face toward his crotch.

she wants to support the other accusers who have so far remained anonymous. >> thank you, monique. cain is currently at the top of the polls for the republican nomination. the second person involved in the murder of a john hopkins researchers found out today how long she will be behind bars. andrea fujihi learned what she had to say in court. >> reporter: a 30 year sentence, 15 of which were suspended for her role in the death of steven pitkaren. >> for the family of steven pitkaren this marks the ends of this horrible ordeal. >> reporter: steven pitkaren was walking down the street when john wagner and merit robbed him. in october wagner was sentenced to life plus two years in

exchange for merit's testimony against him she only faced conspiracy and robbery charges. >> in as much as she was a willing participate, she got the sentence that she deserved. >> reporter: but neighbors in charles village felt she deserved more. >> i said it was a little ridiculous. they were in it together so they should get the same sentence it seems like. >> i thought they would be in it together. you know both were responsible. >> reporter: in court merit admitted she is just as guilty as john wagner but she is not a cold-blooded person. the judge though didn't buy it. after merit's 15 year, the judge says she will be watching for any probation violation to impose the full 15 years suspended sentence. andrea fujihi, eyewitness news. merit will be eligible for parol after 7.5 years. attorneys for the man accused of killing yeardley love will be allowed to access

her medical records. they argue it was a mix of alcohol and prescription medication that killed love not hughly. prosecutors say he killed the cock yesville native just days before both were to graduate from the university of virginia. a fire that left 17 people homeless in baltimore county was an accident. the flames ripped through a building, today fire investigators determined it started in the ceiling above one of the third floor condos and officials estimate the blaze cost $1 million in damage. all of the displaced residents are staying with friends and relatives. time knew for a quick look of some of the stories you will find on the baltimore sun. the crumbling relationship between constala to the ation and edm. do flacco's heroics make him an

well i made a mistake. i went to bed just too early. wasn't that stupid, i know. but i got woken up, i found out. >> the word spread quickly. >> what a game we're still reliving it. we are just two weeks in need of a come back and the ravens get the job done. last week it was at home in arizona. that ravens rally brought a sigh of relief but to win in pittsburgh was much more than relief. that is euphoria and an exclamation point on a statement that the ravens are a super bowl contender. the ravens worked that margin down to the final seconds.
