walks away fro. >> i'm vic vic carter. >> and i'm denise coke. >> a jury rules state senator curry is not guilty. here's the reaction to the verdict from federal court tonight. >> reporter: after a six-week trial and three and-a-half days of deliberations, the jury handed senator curry and his defense team a sweeping victory and a crushing defeat for the prosecution. senator curry, his wife, was all smiles since they left the courthouse, vindicated of the convictions that he used to power and influence for exchange of nearly a quarter million dollars from 2002 to mid-2008 when the fbi first raided his home for evidence. >> this has been a rough four years for my wife, my family and i, and for my constituents, so

legendary football coach joe paterno amid calls for him to step down. critics say he didn't do enough to stop allegations of a staff member. >> reporter: several pennsylvania newspapers tonight are calling on joe paterno to resign and now new word that the winningest coach in college football could be gone within days: in the middle of an impromptu rally outside his home, he speaks out amidst rumors that his days that his days are numbered. the university canceled paternoo's weekly press conference. they say he will coach saturday. the new york times reports the university is planning paterno's exit after his former coach

jerry sandusky was charged with sexually abusing eight boys over a 15-year period. a graduate assistant told paterno he saw sandusky assaulting a boy in a shower. he told supporters and didn't call police. >> he could have done more. but he'd probably have to go. i don't want him to go but personally i think he has to because of the severity of the situation. >> reporter: students here at penn state's york campus say they're worried it reflects poorly on the school. >> i'm going to penn state because i hear all these great things about it and something like this is not good. >> reporter: at least one more alleged victim has come forward. coach paterno had a message for those affected now, fans are hoping he doesn't fall victim too. and just minutes ago, the university board of trustees announced they will form a committee to discuss the university's response to the

child sex abuse allegations. meggan mccorkle, wjz eyewitness news. >> two officials have been chashlged with failing to report the abuse. 900 customers are without heat or hot water for more than a day. this is what it looks like as crews work to fix the gas main. pge held a meeting to update customers and it could be days before service is fully restored. baltimore police stand guard as locksmiths hired by bge break into homes across locust point, the utility in a race to disconnect gas service to about 1,000 customers. >> what utilities will you be missing? >> the stove and the dryer and the shower. >> it's hard cooking with the microwave. >> reporter: the problem started with a contractor working at a nearby bridge broke this gas line monday morning. >> once the repairs are

tonight. an officer was dragged two blocks onto west lexington street. police are looking for a gold or light brown ford pickup truck and the officer will be okay. it's official, baltimore mayor blake wins the general election tonight and gets her first full term as mayor. here's reaction from the mayor and her supporters. >> reporter: denise, she and her party won today's general election and the party is on for raulins blake. supporters are fired up at stephanie rawlines blake wins her first mayoral election. >> i hope that people are -- that people see the potential in the city that i do and that they're willing to work with me to get there. >> reporter: she took the job nearly two years ago when the former mayor resigned in a scandal, and though turnout was low, supporters are optimistic.

>> it is 42 degrees and clear in central maryland. the complete forecast is coming up. a major rescue operation in brooklyn. firefighters had to dig through rubble after a building collapses. one of the men died late tonight. the collapse occurred after concrete was pumped into the third floor of the building. a horrible mistake by the air force. an independent agency says the military failed to accept responsibility for his mishandling war remains. they lost portions twice in 2009. senior officials were disciplined and no one was fired. the air force punishment didn't go far enough, and were also critical of the decision not to notify the families of the service members whose remains were mishandled until after the investigation. police in russia make a bizarre discovery after the arrest of an alleged grave robber. they found life-sized dolls made

in part from mummified remains. the dolls were dressed in female clothing and displayed in the suspect's apartment. police say the 45-year-old man dug up 28 corpses. they also confiscated signs and photos from the grave. a community is in mourning as a recent gradual of pauley high school is murdered at college. wjz is learning more about the out of control crime scene. mike helgren has the development in this disturbing case yoo police describe the party so out of control that people made death threats on courtney mccoy, the 19-year-old student from baltimore who was stabbed to death in a house off campus. she was a beloved member of the church of northwest baltimore where people are struggling to understand what happened. >> what is going on that another young lady can stab someone? i mean, are you that angry that

you would want to take someone's life? >> i know i've been to that location before. >> it was just a regular party. if you see any arguing or anything, usually you just walk away or try to leave. >> reporter: police charged a fellow student with first and second degree murder saying she stabbed mccoy with a kitchen knife after she tried to break up a fight at the home. >> the facts will come out and i feel for the parents of the deceased child. equally, these parents are in great turmoil about this incident. >> reporter: university officials told wjz they cannot say whether alcohol fueled the chaos at the party but they're working to curb binge drinking and keep students safe. >> as much as i would like to hold each and every student in the palm of my hand and keep them safe every day, that is not possible. >> we want answers and unfortunately, who has an answer to that. why did this happen? >> reporter: the victim graduated from pauley in northwest baltimore last year.

mike helgren, wjz, eyewitness news. >> empowerment temple will hold a memorial service for nicole in northwest baltimore. a wisconsin man's good deed actually helps save his life. victor geesbreck and his wife have helped two women change a flat tire on a highway. as they drove away, they noticed victor's wife waving for help because victor was in cardiac arrest. he is currently in stable condition. one of the most influential rappers of the 1990s has passed away ♪ i got nothing but love for you honey ♪. police say heavy d was found unconscious at his beverly hills home and later died at the hospital. they say there was no signs of foul play. the 44-year-old whose real name was dwight arrington myers was
