good morning, everybody. thanks for joining us. i'm betty nguyen. when asked if allegations of sexual harassment would derail his presidential campaign, herman cain was defiant and to the point. during a news conference yesterday, he said he didn't even know his latest accuser. now a second accuser has identified herself. controversy is sure to come up during tonight's gop debate. susan mcginnis is in washington covering this story and she joins us with more p.m. good morning, susan. >> betty, goorm. good morning. >> reporter: herman cain appeared confident and convicted at this press conference last last night denying all sexual misconduct in his lifetime. this as his accuser consider a joint press conference and his gop rivals start to weigh in. >> goon. >> good afternoon. >> reporter: herman cain is refusing to drop out of the republican presidential including groping a chicago woman more than a decade ago.

>> i was very, very surprised and very shocked. >> reporter: sharon bialek went public with her claims monday, but cain insists he's never met the 50-year-old and calling bialek a product of the democratic machine. >> the charges and the accusations, i absolutely reject. they simply didn't happen. >> reporter: his denial came as another accuser revealed herself to cbs news. 55-year-old karen kraushaar now wants to hold a press conference with all of cain's accusers. the whole situation is so volatile, right now, she says, i just don't want to say anything more. other gop hopefuls are beginning to speak out. newt gingrich urged cain to fully answer the charges. while rick santorum called the allegations very troubling. >> good to meet you. >> reporter: cain's biggest rival mitt romney weighed in on monday with an

interview with abc news. >> you recognize this is a very serious matter and it should be taken seriously. >> reporter: cain's troubles will likely come up again tonight when the candidates debate for the first time since the scandal broke. when asked, cain said he would submit to a lie detector test, but quickly followed that if there is good reason. leaving that topic open. >> any reason why karen kraushaar is coming forward now? >> she is telling reporters she preferred to remain anonymous, but that her name and her identity was thursday into the public forum when news was released about her settlement which was for $45,000. she is now among this group that wants this press conference with the allegations to be reviewed as a collective body of evidence. >> susan mcginnis in washington for us this morning, thank you. now to election day 2011. we begin in ohio in a major victory for union workers. voters handily repealed a law

that restricted collective bargaining rights to public employees. the vote was a blow to republican governor john kasich who progressively supported the initiative. >> you pay attention to what they have to say and you think about it, and so people ask what will you do if this doesn't fail? i can tell you. now it's a chance for me to catch my breath and try to gather my thoughts together as to what we do next. >> the law permitted workers to negotiate wages, but not pensions or health care benefits and ban public workers strikes. voters in mississippi easily defeated a measure aimed at outlawing abortion. the called personhood initiative would have declared begins at conception. they say it may have outlawed abortion and made some birth control illegal. the president of the arizona state senate, russell pearce was

defeated. he lost the support of many fellow republicans. jerry sandusky, the former penn state football coach charged with sexually molesting eight young boys, has been temporarily barred from being alone with his three grandchildren. meanwhile, sandusky's old boss, head coach joe paterno, is fighting for his job. paterno's son says his father has no plans to step down but a board of trustees is appointing a special commission is being appointed to investigate. drew levinson has more. >> reporter: students rallied outside the home of penn state football coach joe paterno tuesday night. they greeted him like a rock star. >> it's hard for me to tell you how much this means to me. i -- i -- you guys, i've lived for this place, i've lived for people like you guys and girls. >> reporter: despite the admiration of students, the 84-year-old coach is battling to hold on to his job. >> i hate to see joe go like this with the.

legacy that he has instilled. >> reporter: paterno's former assistant coach jerry sandusky is being charged for sexual abuse. paterno has taken heat for not going to police after a graduate assistant told him he saw sandusky assaulting a young boy in a locker room shower in 2002. the coach told administrators, as the law requires, but they failed to alert authorities. paterno is a legend here at penn state. during his six decades of coaching, he has won two national championships and pushed his players to succeed on and off the field. matt millen played for penn state in the lay '70s and was also on the board of the second mile, that is the charity sandusky started for at risk kids and where prosecutors say he targeted his victims. >> it makes you sick to see that this could happen to this level. >> reporter: it's a black eye on the university and its legendary

coach who may be forced to wrap up his last season with the nittany lions. drew levinson, cbs news, state college, pennsylvania. in other news, the man accused of masterminding the attack on the "uss cole" 11 years ago will be arraigned today at guantanamo bay prison. abd al rahim al nashiri has been confined at secret cia prisons and gitmo for nearly a decade. he is the first prisoner charged with a war crime since president obama took office. he is accused of training the al qaeda suicide bombers who ran the "cole" with a boat carrying explosives in 2000. 17 sailors were killed and 37 others wounded. a new greek government will be announced today in the wake of the european debt crisis. prime minister george papandreou agreed to step down to resolve a crisis for greece from the bailout plan. italian prime minister silvio berlusconi will also resign.

with more on that. good morning. >> good morning to you, betty. most asian markets were up today. investigators are encouraged by efforts in greece and italy to clear their debt. tokyo's nikkei up more than 1% and hong kong's hang henning up more than 2%. on tuesday, the stocks finished higher. the dow was up 101 points while the nasdaq gained 32. more than a year after the gulf oil spill, the coast guard has approved a plan to end the cleanup. that means bp will start working on the next phase, restoration of damaged areas. the coast guard says 10% of the affected shoreline still needs to be cleaned. meanwhile, the white house announced tuesday it will allow a small expansion of offshore oil and gas exploration in the gulf and off the coast of alaska starting next year. after hitting the streets, occupy wall street protesters are hitting the highway. today, a group of activists will begin a march from new york to washington.

at exactly 2:00 p.m. eastern time wednesday. for 30 seconds, fema and the fcc will conduct the first nationwide test of the emergency alert system, also known as eas. eas is designed to quickly alert americans about a national emergency like a nuclear attack, a major power grid failure, or a catastrophic storm. >> this is to look at that one backbone system to go can we move a warning message from the white house all the way out through the relay stations to the general public. >> reporter: local stations like wfax-am in falls church, virginia, have always been required to run tests individually. now broadcasters must coordinate with other nearby stations for emergency notifications. the eas is a modern day version of the old emergency broadcast system designed to protect americans from missile strikes during the cold war. the system has never been used on a national scale. the government says this test is important to ensure it will work in the event of an emergency.
