-- pa -- patapsco avenue. we're talking 24 hours ago, in the middle of rush hour. >> reporter: surveillance video shows atf agents running. snipers on the roof. then the suspects fleeing as they drive wildly on patapsco avenue. sky eye chopper 13 captured dozens of officers, showing the scope of this large-scale bust that involved agents from all over the east coast. it was all part of a major federal raid, from a select atf unit with a goal to disrupt and prosecute the most violent criminals in select cities across the nation. >> this was very well organized. >> there were swarms of officers everywhere? >> there were many. it was astounding. it was almost like they were coming out of the woodwork. >> reporter: one agent was hurt. he's now out of the hospital. analyst vernon heron works for the center for homeland and

security. >> these officers train year round. they're tactical officers and they train for situations just like this. these are very unpredictable. you're dealing with people with a propensity for violence. and they're not going to give up easily. >> reporter: and that unpredictability, gave people not only a scare, but feds a look at crime-fighting units. >> i've never seen anybody respond so quickly. this is the closest i've ever seen that that -- to that. >> reporter: the atf decrine -- declined to speak of it on camera. no one else, we're told, was injured in any of this. reporting live in south baltimore, i'm mike hellgren. wjz eyewitness news. >> thank you, mike. members of the baltimore city police department also assisted in the raid. a man admits burning down his boss's tires at a tire store. but he's only serving two months in prison. and he might even get his job

back. >> you may recall the massive entire at belvedere tires. the flames could be seen for miles. today, a former employee, 35- year-old jason hicks, pleaded guilty to first-degree arson. detectives say he admitted he started the fire because his coworker was using his favorite paint brush. prosecutors say the owner of the tire shop is willing to rehire hicks when he is finished with his sentence. >> hicks will also have to tour the burn unit at johns hopkins as part of his release. the child sex abuse scandal at penn state is expanding. 10 additional victims have come forward. this comes as jerry sandusky comes talks to an interview. >> reporter: jerry sandusky denies molesting boys.

sandusky refutes the allegations. >> i say that i am innocent of those charges. >> are you a pedophile? >> no. >> reporter: san dunky was charged -- sandusky was charged last week with molesting boys. a grand jury report outlines complaints of abuse, including showers and the locker room. >> i have horsed around with kids, i have showered after workouts. i have hugged them. i have touched their leg, without intent of sexual contact. >> reporter: the president of second mile, jack racovits, resigned monday in an effort of what he calls to restore the organization. >> we do know that pedophiles don't become pedophiles at age 50. i think a lot more about mr. sandusky is going to come out. but that doesn't mean the board knew about it. >> reporter: the board is doing

because it a health hazard. police are investigating a crash on the baltimore beltway. a man died on the outer loop near interstate 795 in baltimore county. that accident tied up traffic for more than an hour. no one else was hurt. reviewing wire taps. evidence of corruption becomes public. the newly released audio recording shows how former county executive jack johnson and his wife tried to hide money. adam may has the tapes. >> reporter: former prince george's county jack johnson and his wife leslie, guilty. >> i don't know who they are and they're banging on the door. >> reporter: agents surrounded the home. the couple in a panic over a $100,000 bribery check there from the developer. what do you want me to do with the check? do you hear them banging? >> tear the check up.

[ glass breaking. >> what the hell is going on? >> it scared me. >> we're the fbi. we're here to serve a search warrant. >> reporter: the johnsons will be sentenced next month. jack johnson faces up to 13 years in prison. and his wife leslie faces up to a year and a half. >> those are unbelievable

tapes. jack johnson admits. justice delayed. the man behind the crime for the controversial 2010 election night robocalls. derek valcourt explains the new developments in the case. derek? >> reporter: well, the defendant in this case worked for the campaign of republican bob ehrlich. and since the judge was appointed by democratic governor martin o'malley, he said he did not want there to be an appearance of bias. >> reporter: political consultant julius henson showed up for court, but court wasn't ready for him. judge peters recused himself. >> he was a recent appointee of governor o'malley. and he felt it would be a conflict for him for this. >> reporter: politics, unavoidable. since henson was a paid consultant, working for the campaign of bob ehrlich. henson admits he was behind the

election night robocalls to 112,000 registered democrats in baltimore city and prince george's county, hinting there was no need to vote. >> calling to let everyone know that president obama and governor o'malley have been successful. we're okay. relax. everything is fine. the only thing left is to watch it on tv tonight. >> reporter: henson and ehrlich's campaign manager were both indicted on three counts to violate election laws, attempting to suppress voter turnout and for failing to identify who was behind the robocalls. henson maintains his innocence and believes his prosecution is political. >> so this is something by ben cardin, o'malley, just to punish people who disagree with what goes on in democratic party. >> reporter: henson's attorney says his client has already turned down a plea deal offer. >> it's something when you feel that you're not guilty and that you're innocent, that you don't really want to accept.

three corridors, driven by millions of people in maryland, are named some of the country's most unreliable. mike schuh reports, the new study further confirms how bad this region's traffic really is. >> reporter: your troop on the beltway is going just fine. but suddenly, there is a sea of red lights. >> i think this mirrors baltimore. >> reporter: 695 seems to be the wort. and this study seems to confirm that. >> this is not talking about predictable delays. rather, this is talking about the kind brings the beltway to a complete stop. >> it doesn't matter what time

i come, i can be completely stopped. there's no consistency in that. so i don't understand it. >> reporter: in frederick, i-70 is so slowed by construction, it's the 11th worst in the country. >> reporter: and the top and west side of our beltway, is ranked 92nd, nationwide. >> and it's all day long that you have this traffic jam coming through towson and going up through frederick. this is the third slowest in the country. the inner loop, around new hampshire. the 27th worst. the state chafes at these types of comparisons. and on i-695, sha has several major bridge projects. and i-70 will go back to normal in 2013, when the i-70 widening project is done. want some perspective? this motorist recently moved.

>> that congestion is around here. >> oh, my god. it is horrible. >> in towson, mike schuh, wjz eyewitness news. >> the state says this will result for safer and stronger roads once completed. >> well, with all of that in mind, let's get a check on our roads. here's kristy breslin at wjz traffic control. >> well, mary, that story couldn't have put it any better, especially about the beltways. it's very heavy at this hour. if you're traveling on the top side inner loop, we're up to 30 minutes there from the jones falls expressway to harford road. average speed, about 15 miles an hour another 30 minutes to security boulevard. and 70 westbound just like it said in the report. very heavy there, from 29 to marriottsville road. as far as 95 goes, slow in the northbound direction, from pulaski highway to the beltway. we're also seeing several brake lights there. northbound on the harrisburg expressway, from shawan over to

a woman put it up on ebay. its age of death? >> maybe 8? 7, 8. >> as for when it went missing? >> probably somewhere from the 1870s up until maybe the 1950s. a scottish anatomist mummified bodies and parts 200 years ago. in 1820, a college brought the collection to the university of maryland. it won grandville sharp patterson a teaching job. >> it was very rare to have a collection of his own specimens like that. no one else had something like that. it was a big interest to of it. >> reporter: today, students can study cyber cadavers and real ones. >> students now have a better deal if they could come up with their own teaching specimen. >> internal organs and arteries were cast in plates.

our region into the carolinas. temperatures in the mid-70s, like we saw yesterday. 63 now. 61 in westminster. and a warmer, annapolis and kent island. 68, 57 today. for a few minutes, got up to 68. 57 is the average high. average low now is 37. 20 degrees above normal. 79. the record high. and the record low, 19 degrees back in 1986. quite a range. now, our winds generally today have been out of the south, keeping us in the mild air. off to the north and west, there's a bit of a change in the wind. and we won't see that until late in the day tomorrow. once that happens, our wind goes back to the west/northwest. that's where some cooler air is residing. in fact, much cooler with little air in the dakotas. northern portions of wyoming. rain pretty much from texas across the midwest. ohio valley, up toward new england. but it's all rain because it's very, very mild.

even up here temperatures in the 50s and low 60s. here's the rain. mostly, as you can see, well north of us. but as you head further south and west, there's a batch of rain developing across kentucky, west virginia, as this front sags a little forward to the south. that rain area will move into our region by overnight. and during the day tomorrow, looks like it will be pretty wet, at least from time to time. the mild air slowly being pushed out by this front. but the low pressure passes south of us, will eventually get into cooler, dryer air on thursday. temperatures probably not even much higher than 50, compared to the upper 60s. north winds, 5 knots on the bay. bay temp around 55 degrees. tonight, cloudy skies. a little sprinkle activity and rain developing overnight. rain at times tomorrow. and some areas could see decent rain. and turning cooler late in the day or tomorrow night. 63, back in the 40s. but highs on thursday. only around 50 degrees. so a big drop there.

monique griego has the protestors' message. monique? >> reporter: well, mary, the protestors want the clergy to create tougher laws for people who don't report sexual abuse. >> reporter: this has some calling for action from another high-profile organization, the catholic church. >> the parallels that are clear between penn state and the u.s. congress or the way bishops are handling the sex abuse case. >> reporter: today, a small group of members, from s.n.a.p., those abused by priests, gathered outside the conference of bishops. >> they can help make the laws tougher, make the punishment harsher. >> in the case of pen spit -- state, the people who hid these crimes, these heinous crimes, were punished. >> reporter: several bishops did speak out on the san dunky scandal. sandusky scandal. >> this is a great regret on

911. >> air tran airways is slapped with a lawsuit after cockroaches are on a recent flight. denise is in the newsroom with disturbing photos. >> reporter: a north carolina couple spotted them after they spotted cockroaches coming out of air vents and storage areas. coming up, the bugs appeared. the couple claimed flight attendants were told about the cockroaches but were too busy to investigate the problem. harry marsh and his wife said the experience made them nauseous and they're reluctant to fly again. they're seeking more than $100,000 from air tran plus the price of tickets. >> air tran says it can't comment on litigation. but says its planes are regularly treated for bugs. occupy wall street protestors are kicked out of their makeshift campsight -- campsite in new york city. and now they're fighting back. demonstrators and city officials seem unsure of what's going to happen next.

>> reporter: occupy wall street protestors lined the streets outside ducati park, waiting for police to let them back in. >> these guys are getting paid to be here. and we are here because we believe. and they're going to run out of money before we run out of faith. >> you need to leave the park. if you refuse to leave the park, you'll be subject to arrest. >> reporter: new york city police arrested demonstrators overnight, promising to let them reenter, but without tents and sleeping bags. police arrested about 200 protestors who refuse the to -- refused to leave. >> unfortunately, the park was can becoming a place not for people to come protest, but for a place to violate laws and harm others. >> reporter: the police moved in overnight, and without warning. mayor bloomberg said the raid was timed in the middle of the night to minimize disruption to the protestors and to the neighborhood. >> i think it's unnecessarily provocative. >> it's just going to rally the troops. >> reporter: but residents

new experimental drug that could help they control their cholesterol. sandra hughes reports for wjz. he may look fit now, but two years ago, bill turner's doctor told him his cholesterol was too high. >> it was a bit of a wake-up call. my doctor encouraged me to eat a little more healthier. and exercise more. >> reporter: now, researchers may have a new weapon in the fight against cholesterol. it's an experimental pill that raises good cholesterol, while lowering bad cholesterol levels. cleveland looked at almost 400 people who took evisetripid. at the highest dose, the drug was able to raise good cholesterol, or hdl levels by 130%. and lower bad levels by 36%. >> many people believe, and i'm among them, that raising levels
