mattic fbi wire taps. >> i'm vic carter. >> and i'm denise koch. here's what people are talking about. >> corruption brat down powerful jack johnson and his wife. and tonight, they release the audio tapes that caught them red-handed. >> reporter: vic, these wire taps reveal a chaotic cover-up, with toilets flushing, windows breaking, and money being stuffed everywhere. >> reporter: former prince george's county legislator jack johnson. >> i don't know who they are and they're banging on the door. >> reporter: leslie johnson called her husband as agents surrounded their home. the couple in a panic over a $100,000 bribery check from a developer. >> yes, there is a check in there. what do you want me to do with the check? do you hear them banging? >> tear up the check and -- tear it up. >> but they're the fbi, jack. >> yeah, i know.

that's why i'm telling you. >> you want me to put it down the toilet? >> yeah. >> you want me to flush it? >> yeah. flush that. >> reporter: leslie johnson also tried hiding $87,000 of cold hard cash in her underwear. >> what do you want me to do with this money? they're banging. what do you want me to do. >> put it in your panties and walk out of the house. >> no, but all of this cash, jack? >> put it in your panties, leslie. >> oh, my god, okay. >> reporter: yeah, stuff it in your panties. >> reporter: that didn't work. and johnson was busted. [ glass is breaking ] >> what the hell is going on? >> it scared me. >> we're the fbi, here to serve a search warrant. >> reporter: the johnsons will be sentenced next month. jack johnson is facing a maximum of 13 years in prison. and his wife leslie could face up to 18 months. >> adam, thank you.

jack johnson admitted accepting $400,000 in bribes while in office. a plea deal from a man who admits to burning down a tire store. >> reporter: 35-year-old jason hicks pleaded guilty to first- degree arson. remember the huge fire at belvedere fire? smoke could be seen and smelled for miles. and the entire area was shut down. well, hicks started the fire with a spark from a lighter upset that a coworker at the shop was using his favorite paintbrush. they do not want had hicks jailed. he was sentenced to time served plus supervised probation. >> hicks must also serve 100 hours of community service. >> reporter: dozens of federal agents in a special operation to catch violent criminals. but it ends with a wild chase and crash. wjz was the first to show you the chaos last night. mike hellgren investigates how this all unfolded. mike? >> vic, this certainly was wild. and we can tell you -- show you, actually, this is the

aftermath, from that suv during the car chase that just went straight out onto the streets. there was one federal agent injured. he is now out of the hospital. >> reporter: surveillance video shows suspects spleing and crashing into a car. the chaos that unfolded gave the public a rare look at a major atf raid, performed by one of the most exclusive crime- fighting units. you can see the massive police response. larry was just a few minutes away. >> no way they could have responded that quickly. >> there were swarms of officers here? >> there were many. it was almost astounding. >> one agent was hurt.

in that raid. new allegations in the child sex abuse scandal. former assistant coach jerry san dunky is accused of raping at least 8 boys. assistant coach mike mcclary describes his feels about what is going on. what he saw started the chain of events, eventually bodying -- leading to the firing of their president. and you can see that entire interview, only on the cbs evening news with scott pelley, coming up at 7:00, here on wjz 13. wall street movement in new york. demonstrators marched in the streets of lower manhattan, after they were -- evicted from their camp overnight. the city plans plans to clean the park, then let the demonstrators return without tents and sleeping bags. protestors are going to court to be allowed to keep their camping gear. meanwhile, it's status quo. sky eye chopper 13 is over baltimore, where dozens of

protestors remain camped out. it's been a peaceful protest. however, the city did cut power to the protestors because of a fire hazard. protestors here say they're denouncing issues ranging from campaign greed to finance reform. justice delayed. the trial of the man behind the 2010 robocalls has been postponed. derek valcourt explains why. >> reporter: the defendant in this case, worked for republican bob eric, and since the judge was appointed by martin o'malley, he decided it would be better if he did not take the case. >> reporter: judge charles peters recused himself before henson's trial even started. >> he was a recent appointee of governor o'malley. and he felt it would be a conflict for him to hear this case. >> reporter: politics,

unavoidable, since henson was a paid consultant, working for the campaign of 2010 opponent bob ehrlich. henson admits he was behind the election night robocalls to 112,000 registered democrats in baltimore city and prince george's county. hinting that there was no need to vote. >> we're calling to let everyone know that president obama and governor o'malley's campaign has been successful. we're okay. relax. the only thing left is to sit back and watch it on television. >> reporter: -- he is accused of many things. henson believes his prosecution is political. >> this is something by ben cardin, o'malley, just to punish people who disagree with what goes on in the democratic party. >> reporter: henson's attorney says his client has already turned down a plea deal offer.

allows her son's killer to walk free tonight. >> reporter: 12-year-old sean johnson shouldn't be dead. the 7th grade honor student who loved football had never been in trouble. >> he was a good kid. >> reporter: but on a warm may night, as he watched the nba playoffs on the porch with a few of his friends, a gunman opened fire. bullets hit all of them. his three best friends survived, but sean died. his mother struggles to go on. tonight, new information about sean's sean's death. wjz's investigation reveals this shooting was a tragic case of mistaken identity. police now tell us that a gang targeting someone else, just two streets away, shot sean and his friends instead. >> they said they were looking for other people that was in the neighborhood. and they thought that was them. and they just started firing. >> reporter: they got the wrong people? >> yeah. >> reporter: six months after his death, sean's mother is finally able to talk about that

night. >> and i wouldn't want nobody to feel the pain that i feel right now. >> reporter: pain worsened because sean's killer is still out here. no witnesses are coming forward. and there are no real leads in the case. >> open your mouth. i'm not afraid. why should you be? >> reporter: but people are afraid. john ward's grandson is one of sean's friends shot that night. he said witness intimidation and the stop snitching culture prevent people from coming forward with information. >> reporter: someone out there knows who killed sean johnson and who shot your grandson? >> and the other two. >> and the other two boys. and no one is talking? >> somebody knows who it is. right now. suppose it was their brother or their sister or even their mother or a little baby, how would they feel? what would they want? >> it's frustrating, right? >> reporter: police commissioner fred bealefeld and i walked the neighborhood. he tells me people pulled the trigger but won't speak up. >> what is it going to take?

>> the bottom line is, someone right now, someone that is going to hear this story, knows exactly where the guns are. it was two guns used in the case. people know exactly who pulled the trigger. >> reporter: and for sean's mother, every day, that passes without a suspect and her son's murder is a day that a killer walks among them. >> to be gunned down in the street. and you haven't done nothing to no one. you're just trying to live your life as best you can. just no parent should feel the pain that i'm feeling right now. >> reporter: if you know anything about sean's murder, please call police. 410-396-2100. you can remain anonymous. denise? >> all right. thank you, mary. sean's organs were donated to several other individuals, including a 14-year-old boy, who received sean's heart. well, maryland state police are looking for a witness who may have seen a deadly accident in baltimore county this morning. johnson was killed in a single-

vehicle crash on the ramp from interstate 695 to 795. for some reason, his toyota camry left the ramp, rolled over several times and hit a tree. anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-780- 2700. a warning tonight for the maryland department of health. consumers should be looking out for certain skin creams that contain mercury. they brought it into maryland and brought one person sick. consumers should not use face creams or skin lightening products that contain mercury, mercureio, mercurious. proposal tonight at the university of maryland college park to solve some serious problems. students and alumni are not going down without a fight. >> reporter: if these supposed cut goes through, eight varsity terrapin teams will be completely slashed, upsetting many students and alumni. >> reporter: the front-page headline of the student

newspaper, sums it up. >> students aren't happy about it. >> reporter: the students recommend the school cut eight of its 27 varsity teams, including men's cross country and track and field. >> i'll never forget that day, as long as i live. and that's what this program meant to me. >> reporter: kyle rouser remembers winning the acc gold medal in 2009. he graduates as the captain of the team and says it would be devastating to see the program go. >> track and field made me the man that i am today. >> reporter: the men's and women, swimming and diving teams. men's tennis, women and water polo, could also be chopped. last year issue the athletics department had to borrow $1.2 million to cover costs. the deficit is expected to surpass $4 million this fiscal year. getting rid of the teams could save $5.5 million a year. but student leaders say you can't put a price on this. >> we're such a heavy school

that cutting one sport is something that no one wants to think about. >> reporter: the prospect of reducing teams has been discussed in past years, but it makes it no less painful. as i read the report, my thoughts were on the student athletes and coaches of these teams. as a parent of the student athlete, i understand the very real anguish this recommendation occasions. >> reporter: right now, three advisory boards are going over the reports. the president has asked for their recommendations by the end of the week. he will then make a final decision. reporting live on campus in college park, weijia jiang, wjz eyewitness news. >> all varsity teams will compete through this school year. any cuts would take effect on july 1st. a university of maryland dwraduate will -- graduate will soon be joining the cbs morning show. cbs announced it is starting a new morning program in a new state of the arts studio. charlie rose, gayle king and erica hill. it's set to launch january 9,

cool spot, 46. temperature-wise, locally, upper 50s to the low 60s. our normal high, by the way, is only 57. as you see. tuesday, for a few minutes at the airport. officially got up to 68 degrees. our low last night was our average high. 57. 20 degrees above normal. very mild. very mild day. 79, the record high. the record low, 1986. 19degrees on this morning. that was a cold one. southerly winds can keep this warm air at least tonight and again tomorrow. it's going to be a mild afternoon. but by tomorrow night and in thursday, the wind goes back to the northwest. this is where some cooler air is residing. it will push this front at all of this precipitation we'll get overnight, into tomorrow. some of the models predicting as much as an inch of rain in the region. looks like a pretty wet wednesday. plenty of clouds. south of us, a lot warmer with sunshine. almost the mid- to upper 70s in

>> these guys are getting paid to be here and we're here because we believe. they're going to run out of money before we run out of faith. >> you'll be subject to arrest. >> reporter: new york city police evicted demonstrators. promising to let them reenter but without tents and sleeping bags. police arrested about 24 runs who refused to leave. >> unfortunately, it became a place not for protestors, but for those who wanted to come and violate the law and cause harm. >> reporter: the mayor came in the middle of the night with the raid because he wanted to not disrupt the neighborhood. >> some residents claimed that the noise hurt their business.

the mother of the missing 2- year-old 2-year-old washington boy, may have been looking for love online. police have discovered an online profile. the woman signed up to be a sugar baby, which means she was looking for someone rich to take care of her. she told police that her son sky vanished when she left him unattended in the car after it ran out of gas. police have expressed doubts about her story. a man goes into shock when he follows thousands of dollars in his vehicle. he brought his minivan in. mechanics found half a million dollars worth of cocaine. police have impound the the van. they believe drug smugglers

used that van. paseo del mar in los angeles. the landslide left 30-foot deep cracks in the roadway. crews are rerouting storm drains and power poles. and putting up an 8-foot tall fence. a young child, mummified over 200 years ago, has returned to the university of maryland. it wasn't missed until the mummy showed up on ebay. >> reporter: the mummy came to the university of maryland's medical school in the mail. after police found it, where police had say a woman had put it up on ebay. >> age? maybe 8 years old. >> reporter: as for when it went missing? >> it was probably somewhere from the 1870s, up until maybe the 1950s. >> reporter: a scottish anatomist mummified bodies.
