jessica kartalija is off today. there are your latest stories. >> reporter: protesters have not literally occupied wall street but they have occupied the time and energy of the new york city police department, who have been busy trying to make sure the financial district is open while they are monitoring the movement of the demonstrators. it is their intention to tie up traffic in order to bring attention to their issue. police carried away protesters blocking traffic in new york's financial district and arrested dozens as the crowd chanted their support. demonstrators marched on wall street in what they call a day of action, two months since the occupy movement began. >> what we expect to accomplish today is just to shut down the economic marketplace of wall

street. >> i hope that we make a difference, i think that we already have. >> reporter: police knew this day was coming and were ready and set up numerous checkpoints to make sure they could get to work. workers in the area have to go around crowds and through barricades. >> what do you think about the protest? >> i think they should find a better way to get things done. >> they are bugging people trying to get to and from work. >> the opening bell sounded open time but some who worked there were tense. >> i was not afraid but i would be lying if i said i didn't think about it. >> occupy wall street protesters are trying to regroup after new york city shut down their campsite in lower manhattan this week. they planned demonstrations later today at subway stops and city hall before marching over the brooklyn bridge this evening. at least one police officer was injured when someone threw a liquid in his face, authorities

than six wreaks. >> w e e k s. >> there is no deadline. >> reporter: the mayor has acknowledged protesters are ignoring rules against camping but she would not specify how the city plans to deal with it. >> i have asked that the tents be removed and we are going to deal with it at a time of our choosing really. >> i don't think we are going to be going anywhere. >> they say they will not budge even in the face of police action. >> i think the police will act soon. i thanked the mayor and she said it won't be forever and she suggested dialoguing with us that goes beyond the movement here. now i believe that the movement -- >> more protesters are joining the group here because a group from occupy wall street has already begun their march down to washington, d.c. and stopping in maryland tonight in

western pennsylvania. they say he fired shots at the white house on friday night. one bullet cracked a window on the floor where the first family lives but they were not there. officials say it appears he has been osees obsessed with them. it turned into a dangerous night there. andrea fujii has more on what happened next. >> reporter: this breaking news from palm beach international airport tonight, a southwest airplane evacuated. >> an emergency situation involving a flight to the airport. >> reporter: the scare began yesterday afternoon as passengers were boarding a routine southwest flight. that was until a flight attendant went to the bathroom for a tissue. shirley saw what happened next. >> all of a sudden the attendant came out and said, oh, my god.

and i said what is going on. he said all this white stuff came towards him. he inhaled it. >> another attendant rushed to help him not knowing what it was. >> people stopped, but all the people on the plane could not come back in. they had to go on the tarmac. >> they sat there for two hours as the hazmat team did their work. >> did some preliminary testing on the material, which we considered to be inconclusive and they sent the material to miami. >> it was deemed safe but passengers had to wait for a new crew to arrive. >> just time-consuming. they did say don't worry about it we are going to get you to baltimore. >> everybody stayed pretty -- you know grumbled then stopped and went to the bar and drank and started laughing and everybody got along great. >> reporter: andrea fujii, wjz eyewitness news. >> that plane was scheduled to

land here before 6:30 last night. instead it arrived and 12:30 this morning. when the weather would not have been much different from right now. it remains overcast. we have all seen some rain and today we got marty bass over in the first warning weather center. >> thank you very much, don, good afternoon, everybody. let's go right to first warning doppler weather radar. what you are going to want to know is slowly but surely all of these returns which seem to be trying to creep to the upper right-hand-side of your screen are actually moving toward the lower left-hand-side of your screen. it is almost kind of an optical illusion, we are coming to an end in these very dreary conditions, through the afternoon the bulk of shower activity is actually going to be off to the south and east of the metro grid. it is a very very slow clearout. then what we are going to see coming in over the next couple of hours is a real infusion of

colder air. through the day upper 40s, we are looking at dinnertime temperatures upper 30s, 9 degree chillier now than at this time yesterday. so there is some cold air coming to your neighborhood but there is a great weekend in our future. no change in that outlook. good news. we will have details coming up shortly in our first warning weather segment. i am going to throw it back to you. >> police continue their search for the suspects who abducted and raped a 15-year-old girl. she was walking near the county library branch earlier this month. police say four men in a teal colored sedan forced her into a car and drove her to an unknown location where one of them sexually assaulted her. anyone with information is asked to call police. fans may want to pay if inner harbor and rockville stores another visit. the going out of business sale is underway. discounts will run up to 30% %

a new report suggests hybrid cars may be safer than traditional ones, the highway loss data institute says the weight of their batteries may brain that, even so -- or enough so that occupants were 25% less likely to get hurt. they are affiliated with the institute for highway safety. they are once again going after for loco. they are teaming up with other attorneys general to demand the alcohol content be reduced. they say the 5 servings of alcohol are way too much. and need to be cut back. an earlier demand cot extra caffeine removed from for loco. back pain, neck pain and headaches, we have all sufferd from them at one time or

warning of severe weather. >> okay, this is heading out, it has actually dropped, we have already hit our daytime high, take a look at first warning doppler and again all this action is slipping to the lower left-hand-side of your screen, it us just going to take a while for it to happen. the fact of the matter is you could almost be your own weatherperson and once you start to see particularly north and west the sky brightening or breaks in the clouds you know this new air mass is coming in in force and quite very honestly way back here some of these -- if there is a fat little happy cloud full of moisture and these chillier temperatures come really in in a big and quick way, there could be a couple of snow flurries blowing around. the currents it is really not going to be an issue. 46 degrees now, temperatures falling. 51% humidity, here is that north-northwest breeze at 12,

the barometer is actually starting to rise a little bit. it is showing steady but 29.94 inches of mercury. as high pressure builds in during the let's say next 12 hours we will see it hop up to about 30 inches. 30 right now in oakland, 41 cam beer land, wow, 42 haggerstown, 44 in elk in, 46 dc, 49 paxton and 43 degrees there. 46 columbia and annapolis and it is a real easy forecast. let's check something out real quick. look at the snow shower activity, here is that -- here is that cold air coming in on lingering moisture, seeing snow shower activity along the ohio river, some places in higher elevations of west virginia and again if you see a quick snow shower, even western maryland got a couple of quick snow showers over the past hour, if you see a snowflake no big deal but it is an indication that
