he's now accused of plotting of killing police officers and soldiers. i'm mary bubala. here is what police were talking about. plotting to blow up the police stations and the post offices, just minutes away from executing his plan. his mother is apologizing to the city of new york. they describe terror suspect, jose pimentel as a lone wolf who sympathizes with al qaeda. authorities don't think he has any terrorist connections, but say he was making at least three bombs in a manhattan apartment. >> the guy was actually ready to assemble the bombs and

whether they went off deliberately or accidentally, people's lives were in jeopardy. >> reporter: police released a video of the bomb they constructed to show how much damage pimentel's bomb might have caused. authorities say that hi sped up his plans -- that he sped up his plans. he's being held without bail on multiple terrorism-related charges. >> pimentel talked about killing u.s. service men returning from iraq and afghanistan, particularly u.s. army and marine corp. personnel. >> reporter: the 27-year-old naturalized citizen was targeting police cars, postal facilities. >> reporter: the suspect lived with his uncle and mother in this apartment building in upper manhattan. >> i'm sorry about what my son has done. i didn't tell him to do this. he did that by himself. >> reporter: his mother says her son made a mistake and now must face justice. >> everyone has to face something. >> reporter: pimentel's lawyer says the case against his

client is not as strong as prosecutors claim. he will face state charges, not federal terrorism charges. in new york, randall pinkston, wjz eyewitness news. >> the associated press is reporting that the fbi declined to pursue the case against pimentel after the agency concluded he did not have a predisposition or ability to carry out the plot. well, he is charged with trying to kill the president and today he makes his first appearance in front of the maryland judge. denise is live in the newsroom with more on today's hearing for oscar hernandez, denise? >> reporter: well, the federal court judge ruled that oscar hernandez remain behind bars without bail. he was arrested in pennsylvania, accused of firing from his vehicle outside november 11. the secret service says that the bullet cracked the window of the first families living quarters. ortega-hernandez told his friend he was jesus christ and the world was about to end.

they are evaluating a mental evaluation before the next court hearing on november 28. mary? >> all right, thank you, denise. president obama and the first lady were away at the time of the shooting and no one was injured. investigating child sex charges at penn state. today, the board of trustees at the collegeannounces a former fbi leader is leading the inquiries. >> he will lead a lengthy investigation into the child sex abuse scandal that's rocking penn state. >> we're going to make regieses to the board of trustees to ensure -- to make recommendations to the board of trustees to ensure anyone at penn state. >> reporter: the university's board of trustees formed a special committee to investigate allegations that the former assistant football coach jerry sandusky sexually abused eight boys during the 15- year period. two university officials face criminal charges for allegedly

lying to the grand jury. >> we are committed to leaving no stone unturned to get to the bottom of what happened. who knew what, when, and what changes must be made to ensure this does not happen again. >> reporter: the university's president were fired. >> we will also thoroughly study and review all the university's policies, procedures, compliance, and internal controls. >> reporter: the trustee's investigation is one of at least four underway, two of them criminal. >> no one is above scrutiny, including every number of the administration of the university, every member of our board of trustees and every employee at penn state university. >> reporter: sandusky denies all the charges. he'll be back in court on december 7 for the first time since the scandal made headlines. in new york, eyewitness news. some of the alleged sex

abuses happened on campus showers. a missing wisconsin man found dead in the mountains of western maryland. adam may live with more on who he is and how police think he died. >> reporter: the body of the 75- year-old was found early this morning. volunteers helped search the green ridge state forest in flinstone allegheny county. he didn't arrive at his scheduled destination of delaware on november 12. maryland natural resources police say that wilson died of exposure, his body found about three quarters of a mile away from his disabled vehicle. >> thank you. they believe that he may have become confused and disoriented. hear from natural resources police coming up all new at 5:00 and 6:00. countdown to failure. just a short time ago, the members of the congressional super committee met again

behind closed doors. if they don't find common ground quickly, government agencies could face a round of automatic steep budget cuts. >> reporter: with just hours to spare, some super committee members headed behind closed doors in search of a last- minute deal. congress created the panel of six republicans and sixdemocrats, and charged the group of slashing $1.2 trillion from the federal deficit. they were suppose to have a draft plan by monday. by midday they still had nothing. each party is blaming the other for not compromising enough on one big issue, taxes. >> our democrats were not willing to cut a dollar without raising taxes. >> the extension of the bush tax cuts is a huge tax cut for the wealthy at the expense of the average person in this country. >> reporter: for two months, members of the super committee have been trading proposals and negotiating.

the obama administration did not play a direct role in the talks. but as the deadline looms, the president spokesmen pushed lawmakers to get back to work. >> instead of pointing fingers, playing the blame game, congress should act. >> reporter: if the committee can't strike a deal, automatic spending cuts kick in. most federal agencies will see their budgets cut by 10% in 2013. and the pentagon alone stands to lose $454 billion. cuts that the defense secretary says would be devastating to the military. wjz eyewitness news. >> stock markets reacted drastically to the news. they are down 249 points. >> state senators could still lose his seat in the maryland general assembly.

warm weather is back, but with some rain. bob turk is here with the updated numbers from first morning weather. >> it is really a drizzly, cloudy, foggy monday. we will have more rain coming in later tonight and probably into wednesday morning before it begins to finally get out of here. it's all light for the time being, eluded with heavier pockets in a few spots. generally a damp night. 55 degrees now. the good news is this. it looks like a chance of rain tomorrow, maybe on wednesday and then a big change coming as high pressure moves off the east coast. it will dry out. it might be a little cooler on thanksgiving, but it will be sunny and dry for both friday,

saturday, and again on thursday, friday, saturday, it looks like most weekends were drying out perfectly for thanksgiving and great for great traffic on friday. >> just wonderful, bob. thank you. let's check in on the road conditions right now with wjz traffic control. i bit it's a -- i bet it's a bit of a mess out there. >> yes, we already have two accidents to talk about there. northbound 95, an accident there at clayton avenue and also on southbound 95, another at white marsh boulevard taking away the right hand lane really building up the delay. as far as the beltway goes, at least 15 minutes on the west side. they are just stop and go there over to charles street. the average speed there, about 33 miles an hour.

new defails at the yale harvard football game on saturday. they drove that vehicle into a crowded parking lot. two officers were also injured in the accident. no charges filed yet, but the investigation is still underway. tragedy strikes major league baseball after a player is killed overseas. seattle mariners outfielder was stabbed to death today. his 22-year-old brother has been arrested in connection with the incident. the 24-year-old was signed as a

free agent by seattle in four in the minor league. he was also a part of the winning ducks squad at the 2007 european championship. in tonight's health watch, acne is the most common skin condition and many people will take antibiotics to try to clear it up. taking acne drugs might be associated with another common health problem. >> it looks like it is really doing a great job. she has been battling acne for years. >> and there is a real bad flare up where the antibiotics will tend to go to the root of the problem and take care of it quickly. >> reporter: now, they show that the antibiotics could lead to another common health problem. a sore throat. the university of pennsylvania looked at a group of college students and they found that those taking oral antibiotics got sore throat more often. >> they were three times more

likely to have an episode of laryngitis. >> reporter: now, about 40 to 50 million americans have acne at some point in their lives, but in some of those cases, oral medication is the only thing that works. researchers are not sure why people in the study had more sore throats. >> patients are told to take them back on the empty stomach, but truly if they are sensitive, they should be taking the antibiotics with food. >> reporter: doctors recommend drinking a lot of water with the medications. >> your skin is looking beautiful. >> reporter: using a combination of oral antibiotics. she does her best to take care of her skin. >> i just keep my skin clean and, you know, avoid major sun or products that might irritate my skin. >> reporter: because she doesn't want to be on antibiotics long term. in new york, wjz eyewitness news. >> they found people using antibiotic creams that they did

not report the same side effects. a risky rescue caught on tape for a boy in northern china is trapped in a deep hole upside down. it happened after going down deep. the hole was so narrow that the boy couldn't move. rescuers pulled the boy out. the rescue took two hours for the boy expected to be okay. will, a big crowd turned out to crown a new champion at the 13th annual monday meltdown. they report nearly 81,000 people voted to choose this year's winner. >> let's bring it over. the winner of the best of maddic monday goes to the team from on out here. how are you doing? >> i'm doing wonderful. we just want to thank you, especially all of our local clients, if your group was

this morning a lot of fog. they did come out for a little while. yeah, that's been a drizzle. take a look at the spotty light shower around. eventually we'll see more showers moving in from the west. ahead this evening, look for some spotty rain. overnight into tomorrow, we'll see more of this rain activity developing, but it will be rather mild after tonight's low that might not be too much for them, maybe in the upper 40s or so. we're right now at 54 degrees. the dew points are pretty high at 51. humidity at 89%. the barometer is pretty high at this area. pretty much the same temperature. 50, 52. the coolest spot is 46. ocean city at 55 down on out here a little warmer.

that will change a whole lot for you getting to the middle of the 40s. tomorrow it will be a rather mild day again and milder again. theine we will be cooling off the thanksgiving day and we'll dry out. over in napa and d.c. as well, bringing moisture off the east. cool damp atlantic ocean. that will continue throughout much tonight and tomorrow and a little bit more to the south. keeping us warmer. a batch of rain that will be moving through overnight. you can see it down across kentucky and southwest virginia. that's moving in our direction so it will be more rain tonight and tomorrow and most of it will occur tomorrow and until tomorrow night early wednesday. then it moves out of here. the whole system is evolved, it moves through the region. then drier air, a little bit cooler coming into wednesday night and for thursday and

thanks for staying with us. >> yes, those are the people they are talking about. >> turning the tables, celebrities take aim at the media. investigating home hacking at the u.k. they are the parents of the murder teen and they also spoke out. >> reporter: bob and sally described how phone hackers at the news of the world tabloid gave them false hope, their daughter was alive. >> at first we were able to leave messages and then her voice -- then her voice mail became full. >> reporter: she was abducted in 2002. as her parents tried to find her, the papers investigators allegedly hacked into the 13- year-old's phone in search of a scoop and deleted some of her messages. >> she picked up the voice mail. >> reporter: and the tabloid shut down in july after the hacking revelations were made public. he apologized to the family and they paid a $3 million settlement, but the dollars apparently were not the only target. several celebrities are set to testify this week at britain's

high court about how the tabloid media has invaded their privacy. first up, hugh grant. grant claims that another british tabloid, the mail on sunday hacked into his phone to try to get juicy details about his romantic life. >> i cannot for the life of me think of any conceivable source for this story in the mail on sunday except for the voice mail messages on my cell phone. >> reporter: they are also scheduled to speak at the nationally televised hearing this week. a judge will be using the testimony to recommend changes in the they media in britain does their job. in london, wjz eyewitness news. >> several executives have resigned over the phone hacking scandal. two top london police officers were forced to resign and more than a dozen journalist and editors have been arrested. they will be continuing today after the pepper spray at the university of california in

san francisco. kai jackson is in the newsroom with more. >> yes, that's right. they are on paid leave along with two police officers. and that will be the faces for the incident, the president of the university says he is appalled by the behavior of the officers. and that is a part of the occupy wall street movement. >> thank you. >> school officials are working to restore the trust and attention for students and the campus police. well, police raided the occupy san francisco camp, removing a dozen tents and infuriating the police officers. and reports from northern california. >> reporter: anger as protesters are blocked from the encampment outside the federal reserve. police and public work crews moved in just after 1:00 a.m. to remove a dozen tents. the last to go on the market street sidewalks. >> they will feed hundreds of people every day.

charged with interfering with officers, occupiers say it is the officers interfering with them. >> that is taken away from us. it is just the government tactic to keep us here. >> reporter: today, all that remains in front of the federal reserve building are the barricades and the group of police officers, making sure that no one else moves back in. last night's raid comes on the hills of several other occupiers. they removed dozens of tents, though the bulk of the en-- the bulk of the encampment is still here, even though they said they would only allow 100. >> these kids are out on the streets. just too many. >> he came here to look for his son, been here for a few more weeks. this camp has been declared a public health nuance and there are widespread fear of the larger raid. >> i'm so worried. they've got a record for the

rest of the life. i mean as a parent i'm worried, but at the same time i have to, you know, bless these guys. they are fighting for our rights. >> they arrested six protesters in that raid. he's accused of killing the university virginia lacrosse player. jurors meant to fill out a printed answer sheet with 40 questions. a security plan for dealing with the two-week long trial will be completed on september 19. maryland police are investigating the suspected police inside the world trade center. authorities have not said what floor he was found on. the 27-story building and the top of the world observatory for tourists.

spotty late activity later on tonight and tomorrow. and it should get a little steadier and a little more general -- a little more rain. that is the good news. it looks like it will be clearing just in time for travel by wednesday afternoon and on thursday, friday, into saturday. the jet stream will take a move to the north meaning drier air will be moving in. eventually they will be getting warmer. it will be a little cool, but they will be warming up again for friday and saturday and it will be sunny and dry. and you couldn't ask for better weather. >> it sounds great. let's check in on the roads right now with wjz traffic control. hi christy. >> reporter: hi everyone. traveling on the west side if you're are on the inner loop, you're looking at 30 minutes from 95 over to security boulevard. the outer loop, another 15 minutes there from liberty over there. and over on the north side of the outer loop, traveling from crawford road to charles street.

checking new developments in egypt. checking their military council. they came today after days of protesting against the ruling of the military. protesters are now demanding that they quickly announce a date for the power and the government. and at least 24 of them have been killed in the past three days. the search will continue to find a missing florida woman. adam is in the newsroom with the latest. police in florida are still looking for the clues of the whereabouts of michelle le parker last seen in orlando with her friends the same day she appeared in the courtroom reality tv show, the peoples court. police have located her abandoned vehicle on the west side of the city.

parker appeared as a defendant on the peoples court with her ex-boyfriend. the two were arguing over a $5,000 engagement ring that she apparently lost. now, a growing number of americans are giving up their pets to overcrowded shelters. that's forcing some organizations to get creative in order to find animals new homes. >> reporter: the cameras are rolling when the stars come out. and watch them grow before their eyes. once they are ready for adoption, the families will be lining up. >> they know that they will be saying oh, i have to have that animal and responded with them. i already know everything about her. >> reporter: drawing perspective shelters are

difficult in this sluggish economy. the rescue groups have been using photos for years. >> this little guy here is on out there. >> reporter: they decided that the video tape would lure in more animal lovers and it worked. the shelter says that the videos boosted the adoption for more than 10%. >> yeah, i just want to help it and pet it. >> reporter: animals don't need to be perfect. this is franklin with no back leg. once the shelter shared his story online and his video and others to help raise about $400,000. some of that money paid for an operation to help franklin who now gets around on wheels, while no one has adopted him yet, he is a celebrity with visitors coming to see him. >> yes. >> reporter: people will also check on beetle, the cat, thrown from a car. he needed extensive medical coverage. >> because of that, he will have a limp for the remainder of his life. >> reporter: but beetle is ready for his close up and a chance for a good home. in port washington, wjz eyewitness news.

>> the north shore animal league america is the world's largest no-kill animal rescue organization. a new transplant gives a connecticut woman new happiness. she was mauled by an out-of- control chimp says she is returning to her normal life after a face transplant. nash said she has been receiving positive attention about her new face. nash was blinded in the 2009 attack when the chimp ripped off her hands, nose, lips, eyelids before it was killed by police. ohio's governor is looking to prevent his state from becoming another wild game preserve. the governor is calling for a banned on exotic animal auctions. the decision comes after a small farm owner released dozens of wild pets including lions and tigers last month before committing suicide. police were forced to kill most of those animals. accident or murder. investigators are still trying to figure out what happened the night natalie woods died back on 1991.

a quick look at radar. a little bit of the light stuff is moving into the area as we speak, coming in from the west. so we will be dealing with spotty rain tonight and it looks like more of the same coming up tomorrow. temperatures are dropping a little -- a little bit down to 52. north northeast winds at 7. the barometer is holding steady at 33.2 inches. pretty consistent there, but ocean city at 50. and really a cool spot on out there. hagueerstown at 46.

locally 48 for you up in westminster and mid-50s down across southern areas. not a lot of rain, so south of the city, the airport, they really didn't pick up much north of the city last night and this morning. many areas had about a third of an inch of rain. that's where the real rain was. northeast winds will continue to bring moisture and off the atlantic ocean. that will continue throughout the night and probably tomorrow. an east wind before it begins to shift and bring warmer air in on wednesday. in the meantime, one batch of rain was gone and the next is already developing over portions of eastern oklahoma, arkansas area and mississippi area. moving right along the stalled front, right across our region. it'll be in here tomorrow and wednesday before it clears on out. but after wednesday afternoon, dry air moves on in and it will turn a little bit cooler on wednesday night and thursday. thanksgiving should be dry, sunny, and cool. so that's the good news, if you are traveling late in the day on wednesday, things should be drying out early on in the
