continues at wjz traffic control with a closer look at all the problem areas. >> what a mess it is. let's take a live look. we have a live shot at our camera there. things just crawling along and the delay on the outer loop is still over 90 minutes from harper road to bw parkway. we'll take another live look. things still crawling along at york road. if you're traveling along the interloop, expect at least an hour from the bw parkway to bel- air road. these are spots we really need to look out. northbound 95, really heavy congestion there. we're hearing about heavy volume in both directions i especially around the cherry hill area. a lot of accidents reported there. the george washington bridge really significant delays on both the upper and lower levelsful we'll continue to keep you up to date. back over to you.

still some rain. take a look at radar. good news is, rain out of the area. this evening as you head out later on, about the next hour or two, we'll be dealing with maybe a lot of clouds and scattered fog and drizzle. the bulk of the rain clearly moving off to the north and northeast now after a pretty

wet day. most areas picking up a half to 3/4. some areas even an inch of rain since last night. temperature actually went up one degree. 56 now. 56 # washington. still kind of chilly. 31 oakland. 46 in cumberland. right around our local, low to mid-50s. down to the south and 56 in washington, columbia and baltimore. winds generally very light winds, but later tonight they'll start coming back out of the south. that will keep us in mild air overnight tonight. temperatures may get up to 60 or so by 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. and by tomorrow morning it will be low 60s. later in the afternoon, winds will shift to the noart northwest as -- northwest as a front comes through the area. that may have scattered showers or maybe even a thunderstorm because of some mild air. 71 down to the south. warm air in the carolinas is moving up towards our region. we'll get temporarily into some of the warm air. when the sun comes through,

raining. good evening, everyone. thank you for staying with wjz. here are some 69 stories people are talking about tonight. u.s. students caught in the chaos in cairo. students were among tens of thousands of appropriate testers who -- protesters who flooded the square today. on why the trio was arrested. >> reporter: police in cairo arrested three american college students accusing them of throwing firebombs at security forces during mass protests. egyptian television showed video of the men they say authorities detained. the three are part of a study abroad program at the american university in cairo. their arrests came as violent street clashes broke out between police and protesters for a fourth day. the military head of state addressed the nation aiming to calm growing outrage. the military council has to go, they shout. a huge crowd carried the body

of a dead demonstrator through cairo's tahrir square. ejeption are -- egyptian are demangd the military running the country hand over power. >> we need a clear cut hand over and a proper democracy in place and proper system so we know where we stand. >> reporter: politicians say the ruling military has now agreed to transfer control to civilian leaders next july. an announcement many protesters quickly rejected. they want the military to leave much sooner. egypt's military took power last february after a revolt ousted president hosni -- mubarak. tense tens of thousands are answering the call. tina crows, wjz, eyewitness news. the american students have been identified as luke gates, gregory porter of drexel university and derek sweeny of georgetown university.

state department says it's working to gain access to those students. student protesters at the university of california davis have rebuilt their encampment pitching tents on the very spot where police pepper sprayed demonstrators last week. >> reporter: that encamp suspect more than double the original size despite university rules banning the tents. over a thousand if a cult members are rallying venting their frustration over how campus police handled the protest. they peppered over a dozen students protesting tuition hikes. the university has apologized for how police responded. two police officers were placed on administrative leave after friday's incident. >> the university says it is monitoring the new occupy site on campus and has not decided what action it will take. financial fallout a day after a super committee failed to reach a compromise on the budget, scong trying to figure out what to do next. daniel nottingham reports for

wjz. if lawmakers do not act, millions of americans could see less money in their paychecks. >> reporter: lawmakers left town for the holiday. when they return, congress will try to do what its super committee could not. reach a budget deal to avoid more than a trillion dollars in automatic spending cuts. >> the american people are going to force congress to do this. i think it will be the center piece going forward in the next election. >> reporter: the automatic cuts start in 2013 and slash nearly a half trillion dollars from the defense budget alone. reaching a compromise will be difficult. republicans and democrats remain split over an old stumbling block, taxes. >> democrats were not willing to cut a dollar without raising taxes. >> reporter: the super committee's failure to reach an agreement has created an immediate problem for congress. tax breaks and unemployment benefits for millions of americans expire in january. if the payroll tax cut ends, the average family could lose

about $1,000 next year. president obama says he is sending congress legislation next week that will extend the cut. >> the congress refuses to act. the middle class families are going to get hit with a tax increase at the worst possible time. >> reporter: however, the president's bill could create another stand off. democrats may once again ask the wealthiest americans to pay more in taxes and many republicans have vowed never to raise taxes on anyone. in washington, daniel nottingham, wjz eyewitness news. >> if congress does not reach a deal, there will also be a 2% cut in medicare spending starting in 2013. the suspected east coast serial rapist could soon be behind bars in virginia. a new haven state attorney confirms connecticut prosecutors are moving to extradite karen thomas. dna links him to 17 rains in virginia and connecticut over a span of a decade. five right here in maryland.

a hearing is scheduled next week to consider the extradition. school on soccer day. baltimore city introduces a new program and it could mean weekend class for some students. more on what parents need to know. >> reporter: the 10-week program runs from december through march. it's designed for the students that need a little extra instruction. some students in baltimore city will soon be hitting the books on saturday art all part of the take 10 program helping fourth through eighth graders catch up on math skills. >> it is to focus on two hours of math instruction around skills that are really necessary for our students to be successful on msa. >> reporter: the programs will be offered in more than 60 elementary and middle schools and four centralized locations start this go december. stihl city schools director of mathematics says the program comes at the right time of the year. >> we're starting to get into december. december, you know it comes. then, there's the holiday break. all of sawed, we have snow days. this is our way of insuring we get in all the essential skills

over mexico's largest, activity volcano spewing smoke for semple seferlt days. no one has been hurt. no damage has been reported. officials have restricted access to the immediate area. family, friends and faculty are honoring of memory of two oklahoma state university coaches. it was held last night. they were killed in a plane crash last week. former oklahoma state senator and his wife also died in the crash. they were all honored at the vigil. one last gift. the sudden death of a pasadena teen outside a carnival this summer teaches her family a lifelesson about organ donation. an amazing young girl and how her legacy goes on. >> reporter: one minute, she's enjoying a carnival and the next unspeakable horror her father can't forget. he rushes to the scene of the accident. >> i was sitting there waiting for them to bring her out of the ambulance. i already knew she was gone.

>> reporter: after a night of fun at the carnival, kara and her boyfriend crossed the busy richie highway. the driver doesn't see them till it's too late. >> it was tough. it's still tough. >> reporter: a tragic hero, a lifesaver, an organize ann donor who through her life gives life. >> she wanted to help people. >> reporter: kara's family is only now able to speak about her death. they speak only to wjz about what she taught them. >> she wanted to be an organ donor. i said, kara, they're not going to cut on you. i said, if something happens to you, i'm not going to let them cut on you. >> reporter: they argued kara was determined so he finally gave in. joey says it was like she knew something was going to happen. >> she said what good is it going to do me? i'll be gone. it will help somebody else. >> reporter: the accident that killed kara and critically injuries her boyfriend shattered this family. >> she called me prior.

i'm thankful i got to tell her i love her. >> reporter: in death, she saved the lives of seven other people awe all because of the choice they made the year before. the organ donation living legacy says kara's father carried through on her commitment. >> knowing her intention and her risk -- wish is what drove him to say yes. >> reporter: people could die waiting for transplant, but only half of all adults in the state are signed up to donate. >> the wait list continues to groa. we aren't meeting the need. >> reporter: what is the biggest myth when it comes to organ donation. >> ? >> i think it's a fair i may not be treated the same way in a hospital if i have a devastating injury and they know i'm a donor. their mission is to save lives and they will go till the very end to save a life. >> reporter: kara's aunt works hard to get people to sign up so her legacy lives on. >> her heart is still beating somewhere. part of her is still here. we might not no who it is or who has got it, but her heart is still beating. >> it's nice to see that she

well, it's going to be the perfect dessert to thanksgiving dinner. the ravens take on the harbaugh brothers take on each other. >> a lot of family talk this week. ray lewis a big part of the ravens family and a big question mark this week for sure. he was limited in participation at practice today was ray lewis as he continues to recover from that right foot injury that kept him on the side line last sunday. now, veteran linebacker usually meets with the media during the week. today, he issued a written statement saying he's doing all he can to get back on the field and he stated it could be this
