saturday in marine 1, hundreds of anxiously waiting at their destination, townsend university. >> the president's coming, the president's coming. >> reporter: the sold-out crowd erupted in cheers when the couple arrived and took their courtside seats. michelle obama's brother, craig robinson, is the head coach for oregon state university's team, who beat the townsend tigers 66- 46. the first daughters sat in the first row of bleachers. >> it's pretty exciting. you're looking over at the president watching the game and he's 10 feet from you. >> i was really psyched. >> it has become a post-thanksgiving tradition for the family. >> it's cool to see them here. it was exciting to see the president. how many basketball players can say that the president came to watch them play? >> reporter: a huge basketball fan, the president plays pickup games often, seen here with the cbs early show's harry smith.

village. police say a man and a woman were driving in the 100 block of east 22nd street when they were shot multiple times. the man was hit in the arm, the 36-year-old woman was struck in her hip and leg. the two are in stable condition tonight. police are not reporting any suspects or a motive. family and friends gather to remember who teenagers who were killed in a crash. 19-year-old jeffrey giles and 18-year-old jonathan deckman died when the driver crashed into a tree. the accident was last night on lawyer's hill road. the driver and two other passengers are in critical condition tonight. the accident has left friends and family in shock. >> i'm still numb. i still don't know how to feel. but this here is helping me. >> if there is a definition of living life to the fullest, it was jeff. he was there for you. >> police say the two boys who

were killed were not wearing seatbelts. another wreck kills two and injures eight others in frederick county. state police say that the morning accident involved six vehicles on interstate 70 right outside of new market. 33-year-old cellae leasen kai and lanes maui died at the scene. that crash is under investigation. well, they're very happy to be home. the first of three americans detained in egypt finally arrives in america. danielle nottingham reports on the homecoming and the violence still erupting in egypt. >> reporter: with a smile on his face, one of three american students jailed during protests in egypt arrives back home. >> i'm so thankful to be back in philadelphia. i would like to thank my parents, my mom and my dad for their support. >> reporter: gregory porter just wanted a home-town meal after his long trip from cairo saturday. police arrested the 19-year-old

and 2 of his friends during deadly riots in tahrir square sunday. authorities accused the trio of throwing fire bombs at egyptian security forces clashing with protesters. the u.s. government helped bring the college students back to america when prosecutors decided not to press charges. >> i would like to thank the embassy in cairo for all the things they did for us as well as the administration at the american university in cairo for all their help and support. >> reporter: tahrir square remained relatively peaceful saturday, but protesters threw rocks at police outside of parliament when officials tried to break up a group demanding the military immediately step down from power. violence in egypt intensified and at least 40 people died this week. egyptians are preparing to head to the polls monday to elect a new parliament. danielle nottingham, wjz eyewitness news. >> now, one of the other two

students, an indiana native, just arrived home a few moments ago. as for derrik sweeney, he is expected to land early tomorrow morning. tensions between the u.s. and pakistan are rising after nato helicopters killed 24 pakistani soldiers. pakistani officials accuse the u.s.-led coalition of firing on pakistan's army checkpoints in retaliation. today, the pakistan government closed a key order crossing that nato uses to move supplies into afghanistan. officials are investigating the incident. back in business, nba players and owners reach a long- awaited deal after months of contentious negotiations. they reached a tentative agreement ending their 149-day lockout. the dispute was over revenues and changes owners wanted and a new collective bargaining agreement. >> in both of our interests to try to reach a resolution, one to save the game, and two, to

be able to provide the kind of entertainment that the nba historically has provided. >> the deal still needs to be approved by the majority of the team's owners and players. if approved, the season would start christmas day with the first game being played in new york. police searched the home of a syracuse university assistants basketball coach. they were seen going in and out of bernie fine's home friday. early this month, two brothers accused fine of sexually abusing them. fine has been placed on a paid leave. the black friday shopper who doused her competition with pepper spray surrenders. >> my eyes are burning! >> that was a chaotic scene at a california walmart. 20 shoppers, including several children suffered minor injuries after they were pepper- sprayed. the suspect whose identity has

not been released, she was let go by police pending further investigation. well, the black friday frenzy is over. cyber monday is around the corner but there's another way for businesses to cash in on the holiday rush this weekend. >> reporter: the black friday frenzy at large malls and retailers is over. this weekend, shoppers rushed out for small business saturday. it's a chance to buy local. >> i think it's really important to support people who are, you know, providing great products in our neighborhoods. >> reporter: paula mar owns dutch floral gardens in baltimore. it's small and quaint and her customers are looking for something they can't find in big box stores. >> i think there are very interesting deals going on here and you can do it in a much more relaxed way. >> reporter: economists say stores could see a 10% boost in sales compared to last year.

that includes small businesses, who say it's much easier to shop on a saturday after black friday. >> the atmosphere i think is more fun. i think that i get confused in the large stores sometimes. it's too many choices. >> and that personalized attention leads to big sales for small stores. >> we had a little bit more business than we normally did and i think a lot of that had to do with people being off work for black friday. it wasn't great. i think today will be better. >> reporter: and that goes for stores and shoppers. wjz eyewitness news. >> we have so many good small businesses around here. this is the nation's second annual small business saturday. several lawmakers, including senator ben carton urged shoppers to buy from smaller retailers this weekend. the curtain goes up on a baltimore holiday tradition. >> three, two, one. very destructive wildfire. dozens of homes were destroyed when a planned burn got completely out of control thursday. it could be a couple more days before the area is declared safe. that fire has already devoured more than 4,000 acres of land. a group of students from the united arab emirates is demanding an apology after they were pulled off a plane that was bound for washington, d.c. the students say security asked them to get off the flight earlier this week. they were questioned about their travels and asked if they had military experience. the group says they were wrongly targeted and they still haven't received an explanation. >> i felt so bad because you know they treated us different than the others. why? because we are muslims? we are students here. we came to get educated here. >> that flight was delayed for more than four hours before the students were allowed back on. u.s. airways would only say there was a security issue with that flight. nasa's latest mission to

find life on another planet is off to a successful start. >> three, two, one, main engine start, zero, and liftoff of the atlas 5. >> beautiful liftoff there today. the mars rover curiosity now on its way to the red planet. curiosity is the most advanced rover ever sent into space. the mission is to spect samples of the martian atmosphere and surface. it will drill down into the ground to see whether or not mars ever supported life. a key component on curiosity was built right here in maryland at the goddard space center. a stomach-turning murder accusation. a pakistani woman is arrested after she tried to hide her husband's body and cutting it up and hiding it in this pot of stew. that woman is in police custody. a new local ad is meant to shock and hopes that you will

shop. a baltimore county jewelry store is trying a new approach to boost their sales but will it work this holiday season? andrea fujii as the story. >> reporter: it's not your typical jewelry store advertise, already running in the city paper and baltimore sun. the slogan is let's grow old together, featuring diverse couples, including two lesbians. >> i think same-sex couples just want the same american dream that straight couples want. >> reporter: he came up with the idea. he admits it's potentially controversial but believes it will help his bottom line. >> it would help us to have a whole new subsection of customers getting married. >> reporter: but that won't happen for a while as a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in maryland failed. >> governor o'malley is sponsoring the bill again next year but not without strong opposition. >> two men can never become one and two women can never become

this morning, 36, still above our average of 52 and we're going to stay in this range for the next few days or so before the temperatures really start to shift. what we're looking at right now, temperatures going into the 50s and 40s across the region. we have 50 down in ocean city, 45 in cumberland. temperatures still in that mid- 40 range, mid-40s from columbia over to rock hall. winds are pretty calm right now but we have seen a predominant shift in the winds that is tapping into the winds over towards memphis. we are looking at very nice above average conditions for this time of year. the front that's moving into the region is going to knock our temperatures back but it's still going to take another two days roughly before that really takes hold. this front is moving in very, very slowly. we're still on the warm side of it.

it's being led by a warm front and low pressure that's up around the great lakes. it's kind of dragging this whole thing along. we'll start to see the clouds increase tomorrow into monday and a better chance of rain monday night into tuesday. this thing moves on out of here pretty quickly. we'll see shower activity roughly on monday. the first part of it gets broken up bute mountains. and by wednesday into thursday, we'll start to see some clearing but the temperatures will drop back just a little bit. so our sunrise tomorrow is at 7:03. there will be a small craft advisory in effect ahead of that front. your next high tide at fort mchenry is 7:45 a.m. our overnight low right now is 34. so we are very mild tonight. 65 tomorrow with times of clouds and sun, and then for the next five days, we're looking at 65 on monday, increased clouds and a chance of rain on tuesday into wednesday. 58 with the return of the sun by thursday. >> now, we know why ,,,,,,,,,,,,

townsend could have used a few pointers from president obama today. >> i don't know how long he would have lasted. this is an endurance sometimes. but contrary to many a popular opinion, sports and clicks can and did mix in a politically correct way amid the pomp and circumstance of a presidential visit. as you may have heard earlier in this newscast, president obama brought his family to the townsend university athletic center to watch his brother-in- law host. and did you know that actor bill murray's son is an assistant coach there helping develop guys like 6'9" eric gums out of newark, delaware? to the chagrin of first lady michelle's brother, coach greg robinson of osu. after winning their season opener, townsend has lost six

straight, including today's 20- point defeat to oregon state,66- 46. elsewhere, the 149-day long nba lockout is just about over. team owners and the players union have tentatively settled their labor dispute, agreeing to the players getting about 49% to 51% of total revenues. training camp begins december 9th for a 66-game season, a season that starts christmas night. there will be a rematch of last year's finals between defending champ dallas and miami. also, celtics, knicks and bulls, lakers all on december 25th. college football now from raleigh north carolina, where those university of maryland terrapins were merrily rolling along, but here, the 66-yard touchdown off the fumble recovery. maryland led 41-14 in the 3rd quarter. first time the terps scored first in a game since beating townsend back in october, that fumble recovery but the wolf

pack scored 42 unanswered points. they scored six touchdowns, eventually handing maryland its head on a platter, 56-41 for the second biggest comeback in history. maryland begins the ending of edsall's first season. they've got an eight-game losing skid. elsewhere, former auburn heisman trophy winner beau jackson seeing but maybe not believing how alabama pulledded this fleaflicker 41-yard scoring pass from aj mckaren to kenny bell.
