>> school bullying suit. >> two parents say their young son, who has special needs, was terrorized at school. >> now they want justice. hello again, i am jessica kartalija. >> i am don scott. >> here is what people are talking about today. two parents are suing the school district. they say their son should have been safe at school. instead he was terrorized there. wjz and mike hellgren are live outside courthouse east downtown with the latest on the lawsuit. good afternoon, mike. >> reporter: good afternoon to you, good afternoon to everybody. this is significant because it is one of the few bullying cases to actually go to trial inside the courtroom now are the two principals from schools along with the child's parents and jury selection got underway this morning. shawna and eddie sullivan filed suit after they say bullies terrorized their son shawn, a 10-year-old special needs child and not enough was done to stop

the violence. >> once you go through your chain of command as far as you can and they refuse to do anything about it then you have to go outside of that and unfortunately, you have to involve the court system. >> in one incident in hazelwood the sullivans say bullies choked him. >> somebody had picked him up and carried him to the school because he was unconscious. >> it is more scary when the people supposed to be protecting your children aren't doing anything to stop it. >> they transferred him to glenmont but say the bullying did not stop there. >> there were days where he would sit and walk and cry in his room not knowing what to do because he must have done something. >> if there was a response from the faculty then there would not as big an issue. >> they declined to comment. both principal are named in the lawsuit. >> you can't deny it is happening and expect the

problem to go away. children are being hurt and sooner or later someone is going to be seriously hurt. >> there are 50 perspective jurors about a dozen stood up when they asked if they had been bullied or knew someone. >> the trial is expected to last four to five days. >> governor martin o'malley is throwing his support behind the takeover. he said it includes more benefits than the company initially proposed, exelon has promised to develop more natural gas, wednesday and solar power here, give more money to low income customers and more. >> an investigation is underway from maryland to florida where a man is found dead in a pile of coal. ron is live with more on the investigation. >> reporter: good afternoon.

florida officials are investigating the deaths of two people, including a baltimore county man whose bodies were found in a shipment of coal at a power plant. workers found the body of christopher artees along with a woman from south carolina, it is believed they hitched a ride on the coal train and died as it was being unloaded. the investigation is ongoing, jessica, back to you. >> ron, thank you. according to court records he has been arrested several times for possession of marijuana. >> a man remains in critical condition after a shooting inside a barber shop last night. the man was shot several times and police believe he was the target of a robber who remains at large this noon. police are looking for a man who resembled this sketch wanted for the rape of a woman tuesday night. the two reportedly met earlier this night in a bar on crane highway. if you think you recognize that man you are asked to call police. >> the wind down of the war in

iraq reaches a mile stone as american soldiers officially retire the mission's flag. tara mergner has the latest for wjz. >> reporter: defense secretary leon panetta arrived in baghdad to preside over the end of the war in iraq. in a solemn ceremony soldiers wrapped the flag designed for the war around its staff and put it inside its sheet h. s h eeth. he paid tribute to the men and women who served. >> your dedication, your commitment to this mission has been the driving force be helped the remarkable progress we have seen here in baghdad and across this country. >> about 4000 american forces remain inside iraq, they are packing up and ready to hand over the remaining two military

bases. the nearly 9 year long war costs more than 800 billion dollars and claimed about 4500 american lives and left more than 30,000 troops wounded. the secretary says that sacrifice was not in vain. veterans groups point out even though the war is ending for some troops the battles continue. >> don't turn the page on iraq just because they have pulled out and remember a great thing you can do is hire a vet. >> unemployment among veterans is higher than the national average. last month president obama took steps to change that. he signed a bill into law that gives businesses a tax credit for hiring veterans. at the white house, tara mergner, wjz eyewitness news. >> the final troops are supposed to be out of iraq by december 31st but it appears military officials wills will have to pull out ahead of schedule. >> not a bad day. a live look outside. it has been mostly cloudy but the sun has broken through and may do so gain.

we have an update on this chase and police involved shooting. sky eye chopper 13 is live now over the scene. captain mike has the latest. >> reporter: we are over baltimore highlands where a police chase has ended. now, this suspect was wanted for two bank robberies, 1 we believe occurred in anne arundel county. it is not clear where the other occurred. they began chasing the vehicle half an hour ago and chased him down in front of the baltimore
