a crime spree strikes again. >> the bold bandit who is robbing several local banks and what made these crimes so unusual. hello, everyone. i'm vick carter. >> here is what people are talking about tonight. >> a female bank bandit on the loose already targeted three local banks and now the fbi is on her trail. wjz is live with new clues that could put the robber behind bars. megan? >> reporter: vick, surveillance cameras captured images of that woman during her last heist. the fbi hopes that's enough to end this one woman crime spree. >> watch as this woman walks into a wells fargo bank in essex surrounded by customers, she approaches the counter,

quietly passes the teller a note demanding money and indicates she has a weapon. within minutes she's out the front door with the cash and investigators say this wasn't her first hit of the day. tuesday morning, the same woman passed a robbery note to a teller at this bank on east monument street near johns hopkins. she didn't get money that time. fbi officials say they don't see many female bank robbers. >> it's very rare, especially nationwide in baltimore. it's less than 10% that females do bank robberies. >> and this woman could be on a crime spree. >> just last wednesday on december 7th investigators believe that same woman robbed another wells fargo branch right here along st. clair road. >> she tends to wear the same clothing. it looks like she's wearing the same hoodie, and also the same boots, i believe they are uggs. >> the robberies have some bank customers worried about security. >> which is probably a caveat of some firepower. >> investigators are concerned the bank bandit could get more

aggressive. >> even though they can become dangerous because we never know if they have weapons. >> now they hope these images help put her behind bars before someone gets hurt. >> investigators say that woman is in her 20s, between 5-foot 2, 5-foot 4, reporting live at police headquarters, wjz eye witness news megan, thank you. anyone with information on the bank bandit can call the fbi tip line at 410-265-8080. a baltimore county teen is killed in a tragic accident. 15 year old ryan chase died this afternoon after he was hit by two cars. it happened near putty hill and wilson avenues and one car hit chase and the impact threw him into on coming traffic where he was hit again. police are deciding if the driver should face charges. another bad accident where police chase ends in a crash. officers say when they tried to stop a stolen vehicle on york road the driver took off.

he lost control and slammed into a cab carrying three elderly women. two people in the stolen car were arrested. four people went to the hospital to be checked out. a police chase through two counties and a city ends with a shooting and a quiet neighborhood. we trace the frightening moments for police and neighbors. >> reporter: the baltimore highlands neighborhood in baltimore county went from quiet to wild at lunchtime. >> i was in my house with my sister and then the next thing you know, our friends were calling us saying that somebody got shot and the schools are on lockdown. i was like what's going on here? >> according to police it started last night with a robbery in baltimore county where this white chevy was seen. it was spotted again this morning by police who chased it back north. >> the suspect driving the vehicle, the white malibu was waving a gun outside of the vehicle as it traveled up 97. >> it ended here with a crash but not before state police and baltimore police joined the pursuit. the suspect got out of the car

holding his gun to his head. investigators say he then pointed it toward the officers. >> he bails out of his vehicle. he is armed. he dropped the gun but then, went to retrieve the gun. at that time, one officer from baltimore county and one officer from anarundle county discharged their weapons. >> the suspects gun can be seen in the gutter. the officers guns were also taken as evidence by detectives. a bullet hole can be seen in the suspects car. it's not believed he fired any shots. >> this is ridiculous in this neighborhood. it should be a nice neighborhood. you should haven't to go through all this stuff. >> at this time police will only identify the suspect as a 19-year-old male taken to shock trauma with en juries listed as non-life threaten being. back to you on tv hill. >> three nearby schools were put on lock down after the shooting. a tragic end to the search for a missing middle river man. crews found charles duckett's body today in montgomery

county. he worked there and he vanished earlier this month while getting the reservoir ready for a deer hunt. police do notices meant foul play. ending the war in iraq, after almost nine years, u.s. forces officially finished the mission there. wjz is live and pat jackson has the ceremony bringing the war to a close. >> reporter: that's right, victor. it's excitement over the end of the war in iraq but for a cecil county family that excitement will have to wait. the war in iraq is over. on thursday u.s. officials ended the conflict which started in march of 2003. in a quiet ceremony in baghdad, american leaders said this is the end of the u.s. involvement yet the beginning of self- governing for iraq. >> your nation is deeply indebted to you. >> the human toll in the war has been staggering, 4500 american servicemen and women were killed and 100,000 iraqis were killed in the conflict. the financial impact has also been significant. the war cost taxpayers $800 billion. yet there's a sense of relief that service members are coming

home. >> i really do hope the best for the iraqi people. >> many iraqis are glad to see americans go. this man says the u.s. has sewn seeds of division. >> i my my daddy. >> a yellow ribbon is on the home of the jenkins door. michael is the first with the combat aviation brigade of the maryland national guard. >> i am very excited for the families who do get to spend christmas with their soldiers. a lot will still be over in kuwait. >> michael was just deployed in september. his unit moved to kuwait but he's not coming home yet. >> lieutenant michael jenkins deployment with the maryland national guard is scheduled for a year and his family says a great gift would be if that deployment wrapped up and michael came home early. >> the family says skypex definitely helped. first lieutenant michael jenkins is a pilot and flies a massive helicopter and his wife

says yes, she's glad he's in kuwait but by the same token any day he flies she's on guard. >> about 32000 american troops and tens of thousands of iraqi vs. been injured in the war. a lawyer for accused child molester jerry sandusky says he was misunderstood. sandusky, the former penn state football coach admitted showering with young boys. the lawyer said in an interview troubled youth sometimes have to be taught basic skills like "how to put soap on their body." well tonight attorney carl romeinger said he was speaking hypothetically and never said sandusky touched boys in the shower and two former penn state officials caught up in the scandall will be back in court tomorrow. they are accused of not reporting the abuse allegations and lying to a grand jury and in the claims of abuse involving former syracuse basketball coach bernie fine, a fourth accuser has come forward. the latest accuser says he lived with fine on and off for

almost 40 years, but he may have a credibility problem because he's serving 16 years to life in prison for several burglaries. syracuse fired fine shortly after the first allegations were made public. one final debate, the seven republican presidential candidates squared off for the last time before the iowa caucases. we report from wjz on the high stakes in the tight reigns. >> reporter: newt gingrich tried to maintain his nice guy persona, comparing himself to ronald regan and carefully deflected barbsuch about his involvement with mortgage giants fannie mae and freddie mac. >> when the speaker had his handout and he was taking $1.6 million to influence senior republicans to keep the scam going-- >> that's just not true. what she just said is factual and not true. >> i think that's shocking he's saying that. >> newt gingrich also responded a criticism from iowa's republican governor who said he's not sure newt gingrich has

a plane. mark was caught running out of the queens courthouse after being charged with illegal possession. he had a glock 27 pistol and bullets in a locked gun box when he checked in for a delta flight at laguardia airport. he declared the weapon but did not have a new york permit. we're getting a new look at president obama and the first family. the white house released this new picture of the president and mrs. obama and daughters. the picture was taken in the oval office after the family came home from church. this is the obama's first official portrait since 2009. coming up, danger at the drive through when a bold robber attacks. >> i'm proud of her the way she fought him off but i think once it sinks in, i'm going to wish she just ran out the door. >> the unlikely weapon a worker used to fend off the attack. that's not santa in the chimney. the trouble a teen was trying to avoid when he got trapped. bullied and taking it to

it is 60 degrees and partly cloudy in central maryland right now. the complete first weather forecast is coming up. a single engine plane crashes in the middle of a phoenix neighborhood. one person on board was killed and the other is in serious condition. the plane missed hitting any homes and no one on the ground was injured. the pilot trying to land at the scottsdale airport, no word yet on what caused the accident. a worker at a drive through coffee shop near pittsburgh has to fight off a frightening robbery attempt. this surveillance video shows a masked man with a tire iron climbing through the window. the worker is seen hitting him with a coffee pot and later throwing steaming hot milk at him. the suspect got away but police arrested him. we're learning more about the tragic elevator accident that killed a woman in new york. the cities building department says electrical work was done on the elevator just hours before it malfunctioned. 41-year-old suzanne heart was crushed when the elevator went upward, pinning her between the outside of the car and elevator shaft. the 85 year old building has

been shut down. there are concerns the impact of the accident may have caused structural damage. city inspectors plan to look at other elevators repaired by that company. the trail of debris from the devastating tsunami that hit japan in march has now reached the united states. this picture shows a large black float that washed up in northwest washington state. researchers say larger amounts of debris from japan will become coming onshore in about a year. they could include parts of houses, cars, and even human remains. a baltimore family takes their fight to court. they say their special needs child was repeatedly bullied at two city schools, and now their case goes before a jury. as mike helgren reports the family filed the lawsuit because they say this is a problem that has to stop. >> reporter: eddie sullivan headed to court for a landmark case against baltimore city schools. they claim teachers and administrators did nothing to stop their 10 year old son shawn from being bullied, beaten, yelled at and choked,

an incident that hazelwood elementary school. >> unfortuntely, it's something that needs to happen. the public needs to know what's going on. >> their lawyer pushed for and got a jury trial. most bullying cases never make it that far and she says the ordeal left the little boy who has special needs emotionally damaged. >> he's the target of some and i will use the word terrorized. this child was terrorized by some of these boys. >> school system plans to vigorously defend itself against the lawsuit. >> i can't have no comment. you can contact our communications department and they will be able to give you information. >> but wjz got no comment there either. the sullivans say they're doing this to protect other children. >> and you can't just keep denying that it's happening and expect the problem to go away. children are actually being hurt and sooner or later, somebody is going to seriously be hurt. >> the case is moving quickly with the jury selected and two principals who were named in

the civil lawsuit were also in the courtroom for the proceedings. at courthouse east, mike helgren, wjz eye witness news. >> the trial is expected to last into next week. firefighters in california are called on to rescue a teenager stuck inside a chimney. they had to use ropes to pull the young man out. they say his feet could be seen in the fireplace but unlike santa, he wasn't able to make it all the way down. the boys family says he was cleaning the crimini. firefighters believe he was trying to sneak home after missing curfew. an unusual tax break is on the table in the virginia general assembly. lawmakers want to cut a deal for people who plan to get buried in outer space. the lawmakers hope to lure the business from new mexico to an island in virginia, so if you want your final resting place to be among the stars, it could get you a tax break here on earth, in virginia anyway. >> i tell you what. here is what you need. leave me a lot of cash and i'll make sure. >> [laughter].

>> toot moon. >> complicated. >> yes. >> getting a tax break but you aren't here so how does it help you? let's take a look at conditions, a very very warm night, still around the region. hard to believe but it's 60 degrees here at 11:00 this evening and this may be a record warmth for this time in december. southwest winds at seven, keep the warm air in for a little while longer and the barometer is kind of holding steady but its gone up a little bit and still 63 at pax river, 62 in washington, its finally dropped to 47 at oakland, 57 in cumberland and on the shore still 62 at ocean city, extremely mild night for this time of the year. 56 in rock hall by the water and still mid 60s in annapolis and kent island. pretty amazing, southwest winds is keeping us in this warm air. to the west of us there has been a change. the winds are going out of the west and that's why the cooler

air will be filtering in overnight and it will get significantly cooler over the next couple days. now today, we had very light rain activity and low pressure across quebec is moving to the east and it's dragging this front, the really chilly air is back in ohio and indiana where it's in the 30s and 40s but we saw a little bit of light shower activity ahead of that front and still a few sprinkles and in fact low pressure over kentucky will head across the carolinas and virginia friday night, maybe a little bit of light rain to extreme southern maryland light friday night early saturday but we'll see clouds out of it and then we'll get quite a bit cooler from the weekend and in the meantime, yes, it will get cooler during the day thomas high pressure moves in, that front down to the south but little air, low pressure zipping along the front bringing clouds to the south of us and eventually as that low passes, some colder air will move in for saturday and sunday. actually back to normal temperatures, we're talking mid 40s for the weekend, so we've been enjoying some extremely
