thin. mit romne y and santorem are neck and neck. >> reporter: no landslide victory for any candidate tonight with 88% of the precincts reporting the race is still too close to call. it's a three-way race in iowa tonight. >> 62. >> reporter: mit romney is in a tight battle with ron paul and rick santorem. >> we think romney has the best chance to be the newest president. >> i decided to vote for ron paul when he spoke at iowa state. >> reporter: michelle, rick perry, and gingrich did not win over enough iowa voters. >> i'm not enthused by the chevy duty conservatism. >> reporter: his supporters are convinced he's the only one

that can beat president obama in november. he's well funded and organized. cbs fuse chief political correspondent expects the republicans to target romney. >> the other candidates haven't gone after romney, but that's about to change. gingrich already calling him a liar. >> reporter: huntsman ignored the iowa caucuses all together. he's spending his time in new hampshire and hoping it will pay off next week. rick perry and michelle plan to skip new hampshire and head straight to south carolina. so many caucus goers decided to choose their candidate. they were undecided because it was a struggle to choose between the one they felt best reflected their values versus the candidate they think has the best chance of beating president obama in november. live in iowa, now back to you. >> stay with wjz and we'll continue to follow the results

and let you know as soon as there is a clear winner. a sudden snow squall makes a perfect storm on maryland roads. we're standing by in the weather center, but we'll go first to the dangerous conditions for drivers tonight. >> reporter: the good news is, the state highway administration says they have the roads under control tonight. it was a quick burst of snow at the exact wrong time that brought traffic to a screeching halt. from chopper 13, you can see cars off the side of york road, this semitruck stopped halfway up a hill. >> there's any number of cars stranded in here due to the icy conditions. >> reporter: in parkville, slippery conditions caused collisions. >> usually we get a brushing and we get stuck in horrible traffic. >> reporter: salt trucks tried to keep up with rush hour.

>> we were battling the same traffic as everybody else. >> reporter: as temperatures dipped, black ice formed all over the area. >> you don't see it and all of a sudden, you start slipping. >> reporter: with snow coming down in spurts, it was difficult for road crews to predict where the worst of it would fall. this snow squall caused brake lights as far as the eye can see along york road well after rush hour. >> amazed and shocked. >> an hour to go what would be normally about 2 minutes down the road. >> took us probably an hour just to get that one block. >> reporter: many worried this is just the start of the snow season. and the state highway administration will leave salt trucks on the roads overnight to continue monitoring the situation. i. >> thank you. we continue our weather

other cleaning chemicals at each other. fumes from the chemicals sickened 19 people. a suspicious fire destroyed a florida abortion clinic. it has ties to a doctor facing murder charges for illegal abortions. >> reporter: searching for the cause of this fire at this abortion clinic. >> the officers responded to the clinic here. it does appear to be suspicious in nature. >> reporter: the clinic shares an address with a company associated with the doctor. they began investigating the clinic six months ago after a patient was dropped off at a hospital severely bleeding from a botched abortion. they made an alarming discovery

in the freezer. >> it contained the fetuses, approximately 35. some of them appeared to be close to full term. >> reporter: the fetuses were from 24 weeks up to 34 weeks old, considered viable. under a law until now only used in homicides involving pregnant women. he's faced legal troubles before. his license was revoked in new york over otherbotched abortions. for too many years, he's been allowed to pray on the vulnerable and voiceless women who are seeking access to safe and legal medical care. right now he remains locked up in new jersey awaiting extradition to maryland. >> another abortion doctor faces one charge of murder in connection with the case. a top aid to congressman andy harris is disciplined for giving alcohol to an underaged

intern. he was hosting a going away party for the intern at the u.s. capital when he served her alcohol. he did not realize she was under 21. the republican congressman was not at the party. he was disciplined but remains chief of staff. the baltimore ravens have a new division title and a chance at the super bowl. fans are in full play off mode. we went out to find out how baltimore is painting the town purple. >> the regular season is long and demanding, now ravens fans want more than the play offs. they want a post-season pay off. >> reporter: the baltimore ravens and their fans are worked up into a purple frenzy. the team's logo is ohm blazenned on the grass in front of city hall. >> we're here to watch them paint the town purple, painting the helmet logos on federal hill and right here at city

hall. >> reporter: they're excited, yet fans say from practice to play to pain, the ravens have earned this position. >> we're really, really dedicated fans. just city hall getting into it, i think it's a beautiful start to the play off run. >> yeah, come on. >> reporter: the purple passion continues here at ram's head tavern. running back ray rice put down the ball and he and several teammates picked up the mic. they opened a fundraiser for the cancer treatment centers of america. >> we're going to the super bowl. bring new england, bring pittsburgh. i want new england, i want brady. >> ray rice leading the way? >> ray rice all the way, baby. >> the first play off game is two weeks away at home. >> you missed your chance.

it is 22 degrees and partly cloudy in central maryland. the complete forecast is coming up. icy roads are being blamed for a 20-car pile up in northwest pennsylvania. it caused a three-mile back up on interstate 80. three people including a small child were flown to the hospital with serious injuries. more than a dozen were also hurt. a sudden snow squall led to the dangerous conditions. we are learning more about the man accused of terrorizing a hollywood neighborhood. he went on a tirade against the united states after his mother was arrested on fraud charges. in the days that followed, 50 car fires were set causing an estimated $3 million in damage.

he's being held without bail. the heartbreaking cause behind a deadly christmas day fire. smoldering embers were dumped outside the family home. the fire that followed killed all three young girls and their grandparents. the victims all died of smoke inhalation. investigators are looking into recent renovations in the home and if they played a factor. queen elizabeth is now a crime scene. a woman's body was discovered on the vast property. it was likely there from one to four months and they are treating it as a murder investigation. the royals celebrated christmas this year. the queen and prince phillip still plan to remain at the estate until next month. a 14-year-old boy shoots and kills an intruder with a

shotgun. his sister called 911. >> he came around the corner, i shot him. >> listen to me. listen to me. you shot one of them? where did he go? >> he went back around the corner. he hit the ground. >> no charges are expected to be filed against the teenager because of a north carolina law that allows homeowners defend themselves from attackers. a 7-year-old girl in australia survives an attack by a wild kangaroo. she suffered cuts and bruises after the animal jumped on her back while she was playing in a park. while her stepfather got to her, she was laying face down and her clothes were ripped to shreds. a tough day for a school community, students and teachers came together to say goods bye to a beloved 13-year-

old boy who died of cancer. riley davis smiled until the very end. >> reporter: riley davis lived only 13 years, but he never went a day without a smile, even through a four-year battle with leukemia. a teacher nicknamed him sunny d. >> i had my class make him a book. we called him super riley and we put the superman emblem on the front of the book and sent it to him. he was a fighter, a fighter, a fighter. >> reporter: he was a fourth grader and the school immediately rallied around him. >> i think we did one huge banner and wanted to send it into the hospital. sometimes hospitals can be dreary places. we wanted it to be a happy

place for him. >> reporter: they did something else to support their friend. >> they all decided to shave their heads in support of riley. >> riley's teachers, friends, and family gathered tonight to say good-bye. sub zero temperatures in china leave behind a scene of crystal beauty. the scene has attracted many visitors who are taking pictures and scale the frozen area. >> we do have seasons for a reason. >> this is very true, and we got a dose of winter around here today. that's for sure. we did have those snow showers coming in from the northwest. some people saw something, some didn't see anything at all, and those who did see it, it did lay on the ground.

let's start with our radar and tell you what we've got going on now. those clouds started to build up this afternoon giving way to all the snow showers coming in from the northwest. everything has been dying down and some of the clouds are already breaking apart. we've lost the winter storm warning because this lake effect event is over. close to a foot in some areas out there, so great for all of those planting their winter vacations in western maryland. for the rest of us, this is what we're dealing with. the winds backing off somewhat over night, but the cold air isn't going anywhere. look at these temperatures. we're down to 20 in baltimore, 20s down the to the ocean. it is 8 right now in oakland. when you factor in the wind, it feels like minus 4 in oakland. take a look for the rest of the

state. already feels like 8 degrees in baltimore. that's why there's a wind advisory in effect. we topped out at 32 for our high. we went from way above to below average. that's where we'll stay for one more day before this arctic air starts to get out of here. looking at the entire picture, most of the snow showers have died down because the connection with the lakes are being broken. the winds are starting to turn tomorrow, at the same time it's being broken by another front. there's not a whole lot to this front. maybe a flurry or snow shower, but it's going to keep the cold air in there. small craft advisories still in effect. we're going down into the teens tonight, probably 16 for our low. tomorrow only recovering to 34 for our high. take ak loo at the next couple of days. we start to climb up on

quarterbacks, tom brady and drew brees, but none of them had a better start to their careers than the ravens joe flacco who four seasons into his career is in the play offs for the fourth time. something else flacco has done, he's never missed a done. quarterbacks get crushed in the nfl, and he was sacked 31 times this season. we've seen about a third of the qbs in the league knocked out of commission with injuries. he's still standing and leading the ravens to yet another play off appearance. >> he's durable. joe is tough, you know? and we knock on wood a little bit. obviously never complains about getting hit, never looks at the official, where's my call? that's kind of baltimore, isn't it, a little bit? i would think this town -- i know they do -- appreciates
