abducked, armed gunman attack a man right outside his home. tonight, that man fears for his life and his community wants action. hello, everybody. here's what people are talking about tonight. an historic baltimore neighborhood on edge as police search for two bold kidnappers. we have the victim's account of those frightening moments. >> reporter: i did speak with that victim tonight, and he is still just terrified. this all happened last friday. he was abducted outside his home, driven around for at least an hour fearing for his life the entire time.

just before 7:00 p.m., the 45- year-old victim got outside of his car parked in front of his home. that's when these two men approached him at gunpoint, they stole his phone, forced their way inside his home, and went room to room looking for cash. they even tried to pry his tv off the wall, then they dragged him outside and forced him back into his car, a gray infinity suv like this one. they tried to force him to use his card at the atm to take money. one surveillance camera captured pictures of this men. >> they said if he cooperated, he wouldn't be harmed: >> reporter: the bold crime has everyone on edge. >> it doesn't happen frequently, but it's definitely jarring. >> they do seem to be becoming more brazen. >> reporter: neighbors are mad police didn't publicize the

crime until now. he says an officer who attended a community meeting this week didn't even know it happened. >> we don't know where the system broke down, but something fell through the cracks and unfortunately it's a big deal. >> reporter: with these two men still on the lost, he says it can't happen again. they plan to install more lighting and security cameras in the area. reporting live at police headquarters for wjz eyewitness news. >> the two robbers are in their early 20s. if you have information, you're asked to call police. three people arrested the hospital, firefighters rescued the victims from the third floor. a 64-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries. they believe the flame may have been sparked by careless

smoking. a fire kills a retired school principal. mary heinz was trapped in her home, she worked for city schools from the late 1940s until she retired in 1981. her home did not have electricity. the firefighters are not sure if that contributed to the fire. an unthinkable crime in a maryland backyard. a golden retriever puppy shot dead and the family thinks it's no accident. we are live and we have more on this crime. >> reporter: the own of that puppy is heartbroken while authorities look for the suspect. this adorable puppy was being raised by lynette. the woman was horrified wednesday when the pup went missing and was later found shot to death. >> she was a character. she probably had more character than any other dog i've had. >> reporter: it happened near

middletown. according to animal control, the dog was shot at close range three times between 9:30 in the morning and 1:30 in the afternoon. >> we're hoping we get information that somebody heard shots fired or saw suspicious activity. >> reporter: police say there is a trail they're following. now kauffman is worried about her other dogs. >> they have to be sick. you just don't shoot a baby dog. >> reporter: police have two credible leads. meanwhile, all of her dogs are well behaved and she hasn't had any problems with her neighbors. >> anyone with information about the shooting of the puppy is asked to call animal control. she has been called one of the most hated people in the country. now casey anthony is resurfacing in a new online video. >> just a little surreal how much things have changed since july and how many things

haven't changed. >> that is part of the video posted today on youtube. you can see anthony has changed her hair. anthony's lawyer says the video is part of a diary but was not meant for the public. tonight, a father is facing charges after his two very young children are found alone in a car in the bitter cold. it happened outside a wal-mart in frederick. a store employee may have saved the children's lives. >> reporter: temperatures were well below freezing when a wal- mart employee spotted a toddler and a baby alone in a car in this parking lot. the wal-mart employee called 911 and waited at the car for sheriff's deputies to arrive. inside that car, they found a 5- month-old baby and a 4-year-old toddler alone. their father emerged from the store moments later and was placed under arrest. >> you can not leave a child under the age of 8, whether it

be a home or a vehicle alone. his children were much younger than that. >> reporter: using wal-mart surveillance footage, the father had been inside the store shopping for more than 20 minutes. on that tuesday, it was 24 degrees here in frederick with a windchill of just 11. the children were found to be okay and released to their mother while the father was charged with two abuse charges. he's out of jail now. he was in, but he refused to answer the door at his home. >> i think he should be prosecuted. >> reporter: the story upsetting to many parents. >> i would hate to think of my kids out in the freezing cold while i was shopping. >> it's not right. you can't let a little one in the car like that. >> reporter: if convicted, he faces the possibility of up to 60 days behind bars and a thousand dollars in fines. >> the father will be back in court in march. several groups are stepping

up to try to save the baltimore grand prix. our media partners report two different teams want to take over control of the race. the mayor cut ties with the original organizers after they couldn't repay more than a a half a million dollars in the debt to indy. right now, baltimore sports fans are thinking about one thing -- the ravens super bowl run. the city is lit up in purple and that has local businesses seeing green. we have more on the economic boost they're hoping for. >> reporter: purple pride means big business for baltimore. >> they come downtown for the restaurants and the bars, they watch the play offs here. >> reporter: at model's, hats, tees, jerseys, even posters are going fast. >> it's fantastic. we have customers coming in

it is 29 degrees and clear in central maryland right now. the complete forecast is coming up. a cooler helped save two boys and their father off the coast of australia. their boat caught fire and they ended up in the ocean clinging to that floating cooler. a helicopter responded to their emergency beacon and lowered a portable life raft. rival hockey fans brawl outside a famous philadelphia eatry and it's caught on tape. the video shows fans of the fliers and the new york rangers exchanging punches while in line at gino's steaks. a philadelphia fan was the main aggressor. one of the rangers fans was hospitalized with cuts on his eyes. the family of this texas

8th grader shot and killed by police say they are being kept in the dark about what happened. he was hit yesterday at the middle school. officers say they fired on him after he refused to put down a weapon. it turned out to be a pellet gun. they say it was a case of the police overreacting. >> i understand it looked like a gun, but shooting him three times and one in the head, that's unnecessary. he was a juvenile, he was a child. my child. >> school administrators say the boy threatened them with the gun. he took the gun from another student and wanted to turn it into the principal. a young montgomery county man is sentenced for the drunk driving crash that killed three of his friends. the judge smacked him with the maximum -- 40 years. we have the heartbreaking reaction from court. >> does the sentence help in any way? >> i don't know.

can't bring three lives back. >> reporter: the crash in may broke the heart of a community. >> there's no winners in this. hopefully this will bring closure. >> reporter: struggled for her life in will the wreckage for four hours. he fled the scene and never called for help for his dying friends. he describes it as shock and terror. i can't believe i didn't stay at the scene. he says words cannot do justice to the shame and guilt he feels every day. >> kids get out, they drink, they drive, and someone dies. and we've cut out all the dare programs in the schools. >> reporter: the judge made her decision after heart-breaking pleas for justice from the families of the victims. i can only feel rage and despair. he has taken everything from me. spencer's father describes it
