despicable. now it is not clear how the revelation will affect him at the polls in south carolina. new questions about what the captain of this cruise ship was doing when the luxury liner ran aground in italy. several witnesses say they saw him eating dinner with a woman after the ship hit the rocks. he's under fire for abandoning the ship during the crisis. at least 11 people died and 21 are still messing in the wreckage. a terrifying case of road rage. a man pulls a gun on another driver. tonight we're hearing his shaken calls for help. we are live and explain how things escalated. >> reporter: the victim says he called 911 after another driver pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and started firing at his car. a dispute between drivers nearly

turned deadly. >> i was in the second fast lane. i got over in the fast lane. the guy behind me thought i cut him off. >> reporter: it was just before 4:00 p.m. wednesday. two suvs were spotted cutting each other off near route 152. police say the two drivers were gesturing at one another for miles, then they crashed. >> he slammed on his brakes, hits my car trying to get back over. >> reporter: the victim pulled over to call 911. he says the other driver never stopped when he tried to chase the car down, that's when he says things got scary. >> i rolled the window down and i'm telling him to pull over. he pulls out a gun. i don't know if it was blanks. he starts shooting the gun at my front tire. >> reporter: he jotted down the plate number of that car and tracked it to nicholas hider. hider now faces a laundry list of charges, including wreckless

endangerment, first and second degree assault, and handgun violations. police believe they found the gun that was used in that incident inside hider's home. they also found more than three dozen other weapons. reporting live for wjz eyewitness news. >> hider posted bond and has been released from jail pending a trial. the parents of a teenager found dead in baltimore are suing the state over her missing organs. her body was found at a housing project more than three years ago. police ruled it a suicide, but her anguished parents say detectives never really investigated the case and the medical examiner disposed of her internal organs without permission. can a school building make students sick? that's what parents want to know. dozens of children are getting sick. the students are complaining of everything from asthma to exma.

the symptoms only show up when the children are in school and they blame the problem on mold in the building. >> the smell as you go into the classrooms, you see stuff oozing out of the walls, out of the cracks. it's just, it's nasty. >> the school is almost 60 years oh old and never had a major repair. there's no sign of any danger in the build, but they will take another look at it. nor began state basketball coach will be back on the court after being suspended. bossman sat out three games after he was accused of hitting a player during a game. they could not prove if he threw a punch. he will return to practice tomorrow and coach the team this their next game saturday. the eyes of the sports world are on ravens head coach john harbaugh. one game stands between the ravens and the super bowl.

harbaugh jokes he hasn't slept in a week. he shares a little insight with us. >> in my extended chat with the coach he spoke repeatedly of his desire to deliver a super bowl trophy to baltimore. he is in touch with the fans and feels in his heart a championship is something this area truly needs. the full roster participated in thursday's practice. no injury issues for the ravens. all effort and concentration going into a game plan to beat the patriots. coach john harbaugh took time from his busy schedule to talk about his team and the opportunity to reach the super bowl with one more win. >> if we can just get this one, if we can just get this one. here we are saying this same thing, if we can just get this one. if we can get this one now, we'll be saying next week, if we can just get this one. that's the one. it's an opportunity to get to the big game, to play for the world championship.

>> you're well connected with the fans. fans have trouble sleeping because they're so excited. what's it like for a coach? i imagine you have to manage this somehow. there's a lot of excitement. >> i sleep like a baby, wake up every hour crying. >> fans see you on the sidelines. you'll hug a guy after a big play or something. i'll observe you here on the practice field, in the hallway, after your press conference yesterday. you hugged ray lewis. there's clearly a bond. you're an authority figure, but there's a connection. >> it's why you do it. it's why you coach, for sure. it's a chance to be around guys and build a team, build relationships, build bonds. so that's built every day. our guys are close. we have good people. i love being around them. i love em. >> speaking of close bonds, across the country in san

37-degree, partly cloudy in will central maryland. we have the complete forecast coming up. they're calling it the 100 -year flood in oregon. their car was swept away from a parking lot. many rivers are well above the flood stage. this storm brought record snow to the pacific northwest. winds reaching 80 miles an hour are fueling a raging wild fire in reno. more than 10,000 people have been forced to evacuate. fire officials say the blaze grew to five square miles in just a few hours. several homes have been destroyed. the flames are visible from the city's downtown casino district. an arrest is made near the

famed hollywood sign. police say they interviewed the bodyguard of actor brad pitt because the severed head was found near the actor's home. the bodyguard said he saw nothing unusual. one of the world's top free style skiers dies after a training cash. sara burke suffered a head injury. she was considered a pioneer in the action sport of super pipe skiing. she led the effort to get the sport into the 2014 winter olympics. thieves don't just want their money, they're after your gas too. gasoline is the new gold. >> reporter: more than 900 gallons of gas stolen from this gas station after thieves tampered with gas pumps literally prying them open. this surveillance camera shows the coordinated heist with car after car fueling up the at the broken pump without paying a

dime. >> these gas prices, you never tell what people will do. >> reporter: several other gas stations report similar large-scale rip offs. police aware of the gas theft problem and say they've made arrests in similar cases before. it's not just the gas station thieves are targeting. some of them will steal the gas right out of your car's tank. you won't believe how. yep, thieves are literally drilling holes directly into gas tanks. >> it made me feel really bad about people. >> reporter: her hyundai left empty. >> that seems like a lot of trouble to get gas. >> reporter: she isn't alone. police report holes were drilled in the gas tanks of several cars in the 7400 block of new hampshire avenue. and a dozen small trucks have been targeted in the last week. >> the newer pick ups have 34-gallon tanks in them. >> reporter: it's an explosive

situation. >> i think they're stupid. one of these days it's going to blow up. it's not just going to hurt one person. >> reporter: if you're a victim of one of these thefts, not only will you be out of gas, most mechanics recommend you replace the entire gas tank. that will run you around 500 bucks. >> police in several other states have reported similar incidents of people drilling holes into gas tanks. a billionaire history buff's big donation will help repair the washington monument. his gift of $7.5 million matches the money allocated by congress. the landmark has been closed since august. the park service says fixing the cracks may take up to a year. while your smart phone takes a lot of tasks off your hand, it may do damage to your back.

20s. right now rather mild conditions. a slight chance of a flurry later on to night, but not a great, great chance. we have a bit of a south, southwest wind. it's picking up out of the west and that's bringing colder air. there were snow showers this afternoon, ohio 1-2 inches. pittsburgh area had 1-2 inches. indiana, pennsylvania 1-2 inches. tomorrow will bring this cooler, dry air to the northwest. another system coming in right on the heels of that picks up gulf moisture and moves across the region tomorrow and saturday. the storm will get more warm in a little quicker. even though we're expecting a period of snow and sleet, freezing rain early saturday, it's not going to last long. temperatures getting back up to 40. tonight, maybe a flurry or two

and on tomorrow night. we'll watch that low as it approaches from the south and southwest. as it does, it will end with drizzle by saturday afternoon. on sunday, partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. maybe a shower, but also rather mild temperatures into next week. foxboro could see 1-3 inches of snow on saturday. sunday for the game, low 30s with partly sunny skies. not too bad. host of that snow, slight mix for us, just rain south of the city. hagerstown, maybe some freezing rain for a few hours into saturday morning which could cause slick conditions. the bay temperature around 40. tonight, maybe a passing flurry. 28 by morning. it will get colder. sun, then clouds, 38 degrees tomorrow. on saturday, a little snow, sleet, and then some rain. 40, down to 27.
