brings treacherous road conditions. tonight, the storm's continuing impact across maryland. it is slick out there tonight. i'm adam may, thank you for joining us. right now, road conditions are getting worse. wjz is live tonight with weather coverage. bernadette woods is tracking it. first. >> the moisture of these roads is turning these roads into ice. a long night is ahead ready to battle nasty roads in the city.

>> it's like the back roads like this that are really bad. they haven't been paved. >> the state's first winter storm with the first round of ice and it could be worse. >> the biggest concern is that everything will refreeze and temperatures drop. >> the overnight hours when temperatures go below 20 is when there's patrols for the icy spots. >> several accidents were reported throughout saturday. >> there were crazy accidents, bad traffic. went around the corner and went in. >> transportation officials warn low speeds are crucial as the meltdown happens. even if the street looks clear,

decided to be with us in changing washington. >> reporter: the former house speaker mounted a double digit comeback in the days to beat mitt romney who came in second. gingrich tweeted to ask him to help him deliver a knockout punch in florida coming in ten days. romney promised his supporters a victory there. >> we're now three contests into a long primary season. there's a lot to fight for. >> reporter: gingrich won with last minute voters. more than half the polls made up their minds over the past few days, and 45% voted for gingrich. only 24% finally decided on romney. a gingrich victory in south carolina. iowa was awarded to santorum just this week and south carolina to mitt romney. they're vowing to fight on.

the 85-year-old fired in november after the long time defensive coordinator, jerry sandusky is accused of molesting young boys. during the streets for the scandal, paterno said this to the victims. >> sorry for them. >> the same week, diagnosed with cancer and now praying paterno and his family. >> a family spokesman said he does continue to fight. but we are now less than 24 hours away from the ravens showdown with the patriots and a spot in the super bowl on the line. the playoff run with mark viviano is in foxbro tonight. we'll see what it takes in indianapolis. >> they get nothing of the sort

in foxboro. that's expect to be cleared of the winter blast by tomorrow's game. it's challenging enough, but the ravens have done so each of the past three years. if they can make it four in a row, they're going to the super bowl. the ravens did struggle on the road in the regular season, and in this one, they face the best offense. the patriots who scored more points than any team in the afc. the ravens go to foxboro hoping they can win. yet jim harbaugh told me. >> nobody expects to win the game. the buses pull up and the ravens are going to get off and we're going to play the game whether we're the underdog or not. >> joe flacco is used to the

starting the place by accident when got some fireplace ashes. releasing the identity of a man whose dismembered body found near the hollywood sign. a dog walker found the head of herrby melvin earlier this week. found his severed hands and feet. he's an airline employee who lived in the area. don't have any motive for the murder mystery yet. the death toll rising in the costa concordia. 12 people now confirmed dead. 20 others still missing. a maryland woman and her daughter are survivors. she's blaming the ship's captain for the wreck. >> my daughter said that the ship is sinking. we love you, in a text. >> she said she's blessed to be alive. they were some of the last

passengers on the ship to get off to a lifeboat. >> we said we have to get out of here. >> the nightmare started when they felt the ship sway violently and their cabin filled with water. it was supposed to be unforgettable but not the way it was. the horror they saw and felt in the last hours of the trip will stay with this mother forever. enormous fear quickly set in for someone who doesn't even know how to swim. >> i told my daughter if something happens, you have to jump for the water. swim, go to the shore. >> a week later, she's still in shock and suffering from a bad cold, perhaps due to the frigid dark cold and having to be rescued. feeling anger toward the ship captain and sad for the people

have a lot of snow. but this is what we do with the storm. about an inch in some areas, maybe two or two and a half inches of snow. here's the tail end of it before it got out of here. it's going to start to clear and temperatures really going to drop. here's the amounts we saw. on the higher end amounts in baltimore county, a few inches and 1.8 of snow. on top of the snow in most cases, we are did have some ice. the ones are turning around in the north with the storm leaving us and look at what's doing to the temperatures. most are falling. most cases never went up but really going down tonight and you'll notice almost all of these are below freezing except extreme southern parts of the state. anything that wasn't properly treated will be refreezing in the overnight hours. please use caution. take it more slowly if you have to go out.

tomorrow, excuse me, today, topped out at 32 degrees. this is going to be a process. we start out in the teens. during the day, we'll build up to about 32 degrees and then see clouds coming up in the storm. then in the afternoon and evening hours will continue through monday. it will bring warmer air but thing is, first light rain or drizzle arrive, so may have some freezing with the beginning part of the storm before it warms up and be all rain. we're going up to 50 degrees on monday. it's a process to the way we get there. take a look at the temperatures here. we're climbing up the day to 32. it could rise before the 32 degrees mark. keep on climbing tomorrow night. temperatures go up and top out
