about today. the worrys about a freeze up on area roads. the morning warmed up enough to prevent that and bring in some pretty dense fog hovering around. that collected the commute for a lot of people. life look outside, the fog is still with us including at the inner harbor. what happens next? we've got coverage with marty bass and the foggy outback and meteorologist, bernadette woods, at first warning weather center. >> good afternoon, everybody. we had the temperatures below freezing when the drizzle started last night. they got above freezing during the overnight hours, and more of rain out there in addition to the fog you saw from the shot. as we head through the day, on and off rounds of the rain and drizzle coming up from the southwest. let's show you, as far as advisories go, we have the freezing rain advisory in effect for a couple of counties in the lower valleys where it's touch and go, we are at be 2 degrees there. dense fog advisory in effect,

not too much movement to the air. we will see the improved visibilities. >> reporter: thank you very much, good afternoon, let's look at temperatures. at 4:00 a 5, it was hovering about 32. you could see from watch, warning advisory graphic, we were worried about the freezing conditions. 33 hagerstown, we are warming up to 36 degrees. 41 elkton, 35 in the district. let's take a look at more temperatures. warm air moving our way, and by tomorrow that westminster bel air and columbia numbers, temperatures down in the mid to upper 30s will be in the mid to upper 40s. a big push of unseasonably mild air for january, moving our way. that's our weather headline, meteorologist bernadette woods with the details coming up shortly. we are going to throw it back inside.

family's desperate escape. >> reporter: a grandmother, mother, and toddler, all survived the nearly to foot jump, but the home is a total loss. the one alarm fire broke out at 6:00 in the morning on the 300 block of south fulton street startling neighbors. >> i saw the smoke and fire, flames coming from the window, it's next to mine. >> i saw some fire and when i woke up, it was kind of scary. >> reporter: inside was a 45- year-old woman, a 21-year-old daughter and her 2-year-old girl. trapped on the second floor, the grandmother jumped out of the second story window, the mother threw her toddler out of the window and jumped out herself. neighbors say they can't imagine how scared the family was. >> that is crazy.

i have a 2-year-old little boy in the house that is close to her. that could have been us. >> reporter: all three were taken to different area hospitals for injuries suffered from the jumps. the mother also suffered second and third degree burns, but everyone is expected to survive. back to you. >> it's not clear if someone caught the toddler or if she fell to the ground. the cause of the fire is under investigation. a fire in baltimore leaves a dozen people without a place to live today. flames swept through the third floor of an apartment building in perry hall last night. it took 70 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. the management company is working to find alternate housing for the residents. also, a catholic priest is facing charges for indecent exposure. according to the baltimore sun, mark bowic has been removed from his post at the church of

the immaculate conception. he was arrested at a adult bookstore he was partially nude in the movie theater. he could face three years in prison. a mother and daughter are home today after a terrifying ride on the cruise ship that capsized in italy. they certainly haven't forgiven the ship's captain. they were among the last passengers to make it to a lifeboat when the costa concordia capsized. 13 are confirmed dead. 19 missing. the captain faces several charges including manslaughter abandoning his ship. tom corbett ordered flags to fly at half staff in honor of joe paterno. the head football coach died sunday of complications from lung cancer.

effect for a short while. that's giving way as the temperatures go up with the rain arriving. as far as overall, we had fog earlier today in a lot of cases. it's lingering in the city and a few places. that's going to continue for the next few hours. temperatures will take a while to warm up. 42 oakland. 53 ocean city. that's the kind of air moving in our direction. in the local areas, some of the valleys it's around 32 degrees, there is concern. baltimore, 35. above freezing at this point. winds are light, there is that fog out there, winds picked up a little bit this afternoon. that's improved visibility slightly. it's going to be gray for the rest of the afternoon as the storm is going to take its while getting through. when it clears tonight, skies will start to clear and behind that, we will see sunshine return for tomorrow. the air mass following this storm is not all that cold, we've had a few arctic air masses following the last

shows autistic children can outgrow their diagnosis. researchers although johns hopkins found children with autism are also more likely to have a second condition like depression or speech problems. if the issues improve as the child gets older, they may not fit in the autism spectrum. women feel pain more intensely than men. scientists looked a data from 72,000 patients and found women reported feeling more pain than men in almost every case. doctors don't know why pain is more intense for women but confirms previous findings. a number of people keep smoking after diagnosed with cancer. a study in the journal of cancer found 14% of colorectal patients continue to smoke. doctors say smoking can interfere with treatment and reduce survival rates. you want to be sure to check in with eye witness news at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00, more
