authorities say buchanan has been taken to a safe location for medical treatment and eventually return home to the states. another unusual rescue in western maryland. a student on a class trip got his leg stuck in a cave and he spent almost five hours trapped 100 feet under ground and the hole is so narrow the rescuers couldn't get in there so they had to chip away at the rock to free him. >> we're covering new details about the wild get away crash that killed the burglary suspect. aaron mccoy wrapped hiss car around a pole yesterday while trying to escape police. he committed two burglars before the crash and toliver jumped out of the car moments before the crash. they connected them to 7 home break ins and found some of the

stolen items at the crash scene. in perryville, jordan sped away from a traffic stop and police say jordan tried to ram several troopers cars and another trooper dove out of the way to avoid getting hit. he was going more than 100 miles per hour. and the chase went through maryland and delaware. a series of bold break ins and thieves are stealing copper house after house. we have more on the targeted thefts. megan? >> reporter: they are targeting home that's for sale or in foreclosure, places that people are not living right now and they break in and do serious damage. >> the target, unoccupied homes and businesses. but these thieves are not after your prized possessions. they are taking the copper right out of your walls. >> they are taking copper pipes, they are taking spools

of copper and objects in the home that contain copper. >> a dozen copper thefts were investigated in the pikesville area since december 8. the thieves targeted homes where no one is living and take the copper to the scrap dealer and get big bucks. >> the way the economy is, they are desperate and doing things they never would have done. >> neighbors are looking out for anything suspicious. but they say this is a sign of the times. >> it's all over the country and all over the counties now. >> copper thefts are widespread nationally and the fbi labeled it a threat to critical infrastructure. >> last month, the neighborhood reported dozens of copper gutters ripped off the homes. >> it's an extremely expensive damage many times. >> now police want to catch the crooks as they get more bold

streets as his casket was driven to town. the family held a private funeral. the final public memorial service will be held tomorrow. one final fist pump for maryland. legendary gary williams gets the ultimate honor against duke tonight. his name was on the court. kyle jackson reports from the comcast center. >> reporter: a high honor for gary williams as the court is named after him. inside the building many students call it the house that gary built. comcast stadium was full of cheers. it's an historic night as the university names the court after him. >> it's a huge deal. he's a great coach and means so much to its university. williams name appears in two places on the court and wright has come full circle and graduated from maryland in 1968

and played basketball for the turfs. >> its something i hope everybody feels a part of that's ever been connected with basketball at the university of maryland. i think that's important. >> gary williams became the coach in 1989 and retired in 2011. he has the most wins of any maryland men's basketball coach and with an all-star cast of players, he brought the school it's only men's national championship in 2002. >> he's done a lot of great things for the basketball team it's an honor to have him as a coach. >> he was humbled by the honor and measured in his word yet students spoke up and said things he would not. >> i think it's a good idea. he brought us a national championship. i think he's a great coach. gary brought us into the national spotlight. >> this is something special to me, obviously. it's a big thrill. >> gary says he's made it a point to stayway from comcast
