a man accused of trying to blow up a military recruiting center in baltimore is back in court. >> what he is saying now about the charges. >> hello again i am jessica kartalija. >> and i am don scott. >> here is what people are talking about today, antonio martinez changed his plea to guilty as part of a deal. wjz is live at the courthouse, mike hellgren has the details. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. this is a man who said he wanted to wage jihad against the u.s. government. earlier this month he had pleaded not guilty, but just hours ag that all changed. antonio martinez spent weeks before making the decision to change his plea to guilty, admitting he attempted to use a weapon of mass destruction to blow up the recruitment center in 2010. the plot the government derailed with the help of an

informant, who noticed alarming posts on his facebook page. >> i think the work the fbi did in this case is as good as it gets, it documented his intent, he intented to kill people and do damage and admitted that today. >> he went ahead and armed the bomb, drove the car, parked it in front of the building then went to a vantage point to see what would happen. >> the government claims martinez said it was his dream to wage a holy war against the united states. his plea agreement calls for a 25 year prison sentence. the sentence could change. it will be up to the judge. >> i wanted to get some comments from you guys about the plea today. >> martinez's defense declined to speak but argued the government failed to record their client's confession and the feds entrapped him, providing a fake bomb he used

in the scheme. martinez is 22 and converted to islam not long before the government sting that led to his arrest. >> i would like to especially acknowledge the muslim community in reaching out to help us identify the threat early on. >> the maximum sentence for this crime is life in prison and the judge will sentence martinez in early april. reporting live at the courthouse mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> the recruiting center is on route 40 and there were several people inside at the time of the plot. >> the former marine accused of firing shots at several military buildings including the pentagon is expected to enter a plea today. he will plead guilty as part of a plea bargain he is charged in a series of shootings. he was arrested last june on the grounds of arlington national cemetery. a federal jury sides with a

former sheriff's deputy and rules he is not liable for the taser death of a young man and also he used only enough force to protect himself. 20-year-old jorel gray died in 2007 after being tastedded twice, torres says when he uponed to a fight gray ignored his commands to get down and show his hands, his parents were seeking $145 million in damages. >> a woman convicted in the brutal worker prepares for sentencing, her family is asking she not spend life behind bar. ron matz has more. >> reporter: good afternoon. britney norwood's parents are asking their daughter be given the possibility of parole when she is sentenced tomorrow. she was convicted of first degree murder in november, found guilty of killing her co- worker inside the yoga store in bethesda where they both worked, prosecutors say she used a hammer, knife and a

wrench to kill her. >> the maximum sentence for norwood is life in prison without parole. >> there was a fatal crash in aberdeen in hartford county this morning, a tractor-trailer and a car collided at the intersection around 5:00 a.m. the driver of the car, 47-year- old robert simmons was rushed to a hospital where he died. the tractor-trailer driver was not hurt in the crash. the search is on for who is responsible for a string of copper thefts in baltimore and montgomery counties dozens of homes and businesses have had copper pipes taken from them. no arrests have been made. anyone with information is urged to call police. >> the president's 3 day trip to the battle ground states takes him to nevada and colorado, meanwhile the republicans running to replace him are in florida taking aim at each other. randall pinkston has the latest from the white house.

ground states, nevada and colorado. the president arrived in las vegas last night, in the middle of a three day 5 state swing to promote the ideas he laid out in his state of the union address. today he is focusing on proposals aimed at creating more energy and making bigger investments especially clean energy and expected to announce new leases for oil and gas companies to expand drilling off the gulf coast. >> president obama won nevada and colorado in 2008 but his approval numbers nationwide have slipped. a majority of voters now say they don't approve of the way he has handled the nation's economy. meantime the president sees the worse state of the union ratings so far. 37.8 million people tuned in tuesday to watch his annual speech, that is down 13% from last year's speech and just shy of a record low. >> saying good-bye one last time. more than 12,000 people are

expected to pack the basketball arena at penn state university today for one more tribute to legendary football coach joe paterno. the viewings were held tuesday and yesterday morning followed by a private funeral service. the long time coach died sunday from lung cancer. the memorial service for paterno is set to begin at 2:00 and will feature a speaker from each decade of his coaching career. >> switching gears let's take a live look at conditions outside. an overcast but unseasonably warm thursday afternoon out there. looks like some rain could be on the way. marty has the details for us on that. he is in the weather center now. good afternoon. >> good afternoon, jess, hello everybody. let's go right to first warning weather doppler radar. we have this day much earlier when don and i were doing the morning edition, a sprinkle or two. now we are seeing a good slug of moisture approach the area and is going to define the middle and latter afternoon
