targeted rodney prichett. they followed him around the mall, then killed him just steps outside. four men behind bars for a highly publicized killing just a week before christmas. rodney gunned down outside the center. his father spoke to wjz. >> they need to be in jail. you can't go around here killing people. >> reporter: investigators say brandon spotted prichett inside a store and called frank williams who drove to the mall with two other men. they used cell phones to communicate as they followed him throughout the mall. it all ended here where he was shot and killed. hundreds of surveillance cameras tracked the suspects. >> the video footage from the cameras in and around the mall was absolutely essential in helping us solve this case. >> reporter: neighbors are still wary of what happened.

suzanne g. komen foundation. they cut funding to planned parenthood. >> reporter: the foundation has raised nearly $2 billion for breast cancer research and for years, the charity giant has been giving money to planned parenthood, funding more than 170,000 breast exams. they're cutting ties to planned parenthood. in a web video, the founder claims new stringent eligibility standards. >> we have always done what is right for our organization. >> reporter: but planned parenthood, says its history of providing abortions is what's really behind the split. >> it was the result of a political pressure campaign, a bullying effort against the komen foundation trying to get

them to break this relationship. >> reporter: it will not affect the 8 maryland planned parenthood branches, though they do conduct 5000 breast exams in maryland each year. why while the decision has upset many women -- >> they shouldn't have stopped. if it's going towards breast exams -- >> reporter: others support the move. >> i think it was unfair for that money because people were giving it for one charity and one health issue and really had no idea their money was going to go somewhere else. >> reporter: there is an upside. ever since this controversy began, they raised $400,000 from people who do not support the decision by the komen foundation. >> last year alone, planned parenthood received $700,000 from the foundation. donald trump is endorsing romney for the job.

the tsa. he was cited, but he was allowed to board his flight. searching for homes, a tragic case of animal horderring. 40 animals were found dead inside the house. tonight we have the latest on the pets and their alleged caretaker. >> reporter: neighbors watched the gruesome scene on fold as police pulled the bodies of 40 dead animals from this home in columbia. >> it was just so sickening. my wife was, she was going to throw up. she was just disgusted. >> reporter: inside were dead cats, rabbits, birds, snakes, and guinea pigs, some of which were stuffed in a freezer. these cats are two of four animals found sick but alive. >> there's a ray of good news. >> reporter: the cats along with a bearded dragon lizard and a gerbil are up for adoption. >> hopefully they can be adopted and be able to be taken care of. >> reporter: they believe the

grows over the struggling housing market and that frustration is aimed at the big banks. how people are making their voices heard. >> reporter: these protests are part of the move on and occupy organization. they're frustrated with the economic conditions that have led to people losing their homes and wiped out savings and they're vowing to fight the problem. they call it the funeral for the american dream at a church in west baltimore. >> this is a kick off of a long campaign where we'll encourage people to think the role that big banks play in their lives. >> reporter: mortgages, checking accounts, and investments should be picked carefully by consumers. >> if we had bank accounts at any of these big corporate wall street banks, we need to move our money. >> we got sold out. >> reporter: protesters point to the rate of foreclosures as

inside the car he slams into. tonight, wjz investigates. we reveal how tired truckers and long hours on the road can turn deadly. >> reporter: a trip home from a family reunion turned deadly on the ohio turnpike. >> august 16, 2010 the trucker fell asleep at the wheel. >> reporter: suzanne and her two sons slowed down at a construction zone but a trucker behind them never sees it coming, never hits the brake. >> he fell asleep and hit them at 55 miles an hour. >> reporter: the family shattered by a trucker who barreled into the back of the car. >> i was at work and i got a phone call. the worst phone call you could ever imagine. >> reporter: suzanne, a popular professor is killed instantly. rescue crews pull 16-year-old peter and # 12-year-old matthew out of the wreckage. >> they said this is so and so.

i'm the coroner. you don't need to ask anything else. >> reporter: peter fights back and recovers, but matthew suffers a traumatic brain injury. >> he was at levels of subconsciousness for six or seven months. >> reporter: ed learned what happened is not unusual. >> it should scare the living daylights out of you. it should. >> reporter: almost 4000 people are killed every year in accidents with truckers and studies show driver fatigue causes more than a third of them. in fact, 65% of truckers admit they sometimes feel drowsy while driving and nearly half say they've actually fallen asleep at the wheel. >> truckers are tired in. >> i would say for the most part, you get tired. your clock keeps running. you don't have time to stop, take a nap, and keep going. >> reporter: new rules issued by the department of transportation limit the number of hours truckers can spend on the road, but they're not doing enough.

>> sweat shops on wheels is what they are. >> reporter: the truck safety coalition is baffled they're still allowed to spend 11 hours a day behind the wheel. >> you don't think the government went far enough to protect the public? >> it defies common sense. >> it's an issue, but statistically it's not the issue. the issue is speed, it's inattentive driving, it's all the diversions. those are the areas that need more focus. >> reporter: ed now pushes for safer trucking rules. >> what is your hope for matthew? >> um, sometimes you don't dare hope for too much and other times you hope for everything. >> now the trucker who crashed into their car is serving five years in prison.

the judge sent a strong message to truck drivers that they will be held responsible for their actions. a woman is accused of selling fake stock in facebook. prosecutors say she either sold the bogus certificates for cash or gave them to people she owed money to. facebook filed plans yesterday for the stock's initial public offering. it was an offering of the finest chocolates and deserts and it was all for a good cause. the annual chocolate affair was held tonight at the waterfront marriott. a chocolate-inspired dinner accompanied all those treats. the sweetest night in the city. >> i didn't know that was going on. that looked awfully good. >> i wish i'd known better. let's look at weather. it's gotten a little chilly compared to what we saw this

week. i would say it's chilly. 39 out. the dew point is up to 27. still a bit of a breeze. it is beginning to calm down, west northwest at 6. barometer way back up. 31 degrees in oakland. 36 cumberland. in the mid to upper 30s to the low 40s around the region. still that breeze, so it feels more like 34-35 degrees out. that is the low for the day. it was 57 earlier this afternoon, well above normal. 42, 25 are the averages lavementer tonight and tomorrow morning, probably get down to 31, 32 for our low. 71 the record high. and one in 1961. still have a breeze in some spots -- hagerstown still 21 miles an hour. most places will get below 5-10 miles an hour. they're having a major storm

going on in colorado, kansas, and nebraska tonight and tomorrow. denver expecting up to 18 inches of snow. wind blowing as well. a portion of that system will bring a bit of moisture overtop of cooler air in that region saturday night and sunday. looks like a lot of clouds move back. maybe a slight chance for drizzle on sunday morning before it moves out. for the most part, our weekend will be partly sunny, dry for the most part. we'll call it a cooler weekend. you know, a little cooler next week. for the time being, fair weather until saturday night and sunday until those clouds move in, just a chance for a little drizzle there saturday night and sunday morning. west winds in the bay, 5-10 knots. a lot of sunshine. tonight, look for clear to partly cloudy skies. later on, down to 32. a lot of sun, but still mild for this time of year. a high near 50.
