>> role reversal after days of backlash and criticism to a startling decision. >> the susan g. komen foundation reinstates funding to planned parenthood. >> and i'm kai jacksonson. >> and here is what people are talking about. >> a change of heart after a firestorm of controversy today. the komen foundation reinstates its grant to planned parenthood. randall pinkston reports to wjz on their air poling. >> reporter: the susan g. komen foundation reversed its decision to cut funds to planned parenthood after a storm of protest. the board of directors said in a statement we want to apologize to the american people for decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives. we will continue to fund existing grants, including those of planned parenthood.

earlier in the week the organization defended the move. >> and the accusations being hurled at this organization are profoundly hurtful. >> reporter: and they plan to fund planned parenthood, nearly 700,000 last year, is used to fight breast cancer and planned parenthood also provides abortion, and the decision sparked a viral, mostly negative reaction on twitter, facebook and youtube. it also generated -- generated a flood of donations to planned parenthood. at last count, $3 million, more than four times komen's annual contribution. >> we have seen over the last few days in the outpouring of support send as real important message that women are willing to stand up for women and women's health. >> reporter: the komen officials denied they made the decision for political reasons saying it was part of a new policy preventing grants to organizations under investigation. planned parenthood is currently the subject of a probe by u.s. representative cliff sterns, a

republican from florida. the officials from planned parenthood say they are enormously grateful that komen is chaining its rules. in washington, randall pinkston, wjz eyewitness news. >> we have local reaction to komen's about face coming up new at 5:00 and 6:00. baltimore county police get a break in the case of a fatal hit and run in perry hall. we have the latest on the case. baltimore county police say they found the car involved in the crash. the vehicle, a white ford 500 sedan like this one was located in hartford county. they believe it struck and killed the 68-year-old last month. a car stopped to allow moore to cross the road. the ford passed the stop vehicle, hit moore and fled the scene. baltimore county police are working with hartford county deputies to identify the person driving the car at the time of the accident. >> thank you. so far no arrests have been made in the crash. a man is in police custody today after leaving -- leading a state trooper on a dangerous

trace. the 22-year-old is facing dui, assault and other charges. the trooper pulled him over on mountain road. and he sped away leading the trooper on a three-mile pursuit. during the chase the suspect's car rammed the police cruiser. the cruiser hit a fence and one of the rails came through the trooper's wind sled hitting him in the chest. the trooper is recovering from minor injuries. a judge and all four men accused of murdering a teenager at towson center. we have the unfolding investigation. >> reporter: all four of the men in custody in this case are charged with first-degree murder. the police arrested four men for a murder at towson town center just six days before christmas. and this is a childhood picture of the victim. 19-year-old rodney primp et. the police say a network of hundreds of cameras revealed the four suspects tracked his every move, stalking him through the mall before they say one of them, tyrone chester brown, who is also 19, shot him

outside of in order are strom. >> the video -- nordstrom. >> the video footage in and around the mall was absolutely essential in helping us solve this case. we do not know why he was targeted, only that he was targeted. >> reporter: the police couldn't say whether this was a revenge killing." . the sun" reports he was involved in a robbery on york road about a year before his death and this is what they said about the suspects. >> one of the four suspects is in the mall, spots the victim, picks up his phone and calls his three buddies who are down off of york road in baltimore city. >> reporter: the victim's father told wjz he is heart broken but relieved. >> good. they need to be in jail. you can't go aren't here killing people, you know what i mean? thinking you can get away with it. and plus, my only son. i love him and i miss him. i see his face every night. >> reporter: this is the second murder at towson town center since 2005 when a beloved

educator was killed during a botched robbery. the mall has an extensive network of surveillance cameras and a law passed after that 2005 killing led to even more cameras for sloppings -- shopping centers across baltimore county. the police praise their detectives saying they had to look at hour upon hour of footage. they said it was putting together the pieces of a puzzle making this case. wjz eyewitness news. new at 5:00, wjz has information on what was on that surveillance video and for the first time, you'll hear what the suspects are saying about the charges. a maryland track coach is accused of having sex with a 16- year-old girl on his team. and we're live in the news room with more on the coach and the school involved. jessica? >> reporter: montgomery county police say 47-year-old scott spear is free on bail today. she charged with two counts of fourth degree sex offense. he is a track and basketball coach at richard montgomery lice. the police say he had sex with a girl at a rockville home in

april or may at least two times. >> the student was 16 years old. the coach was over 21 years of age, and he was in a position of authority. >> i am actually shocked. he was actually my teacher in eighth grade, and he was a cool dude. i didn't expect this to happen. >> reporter: a school spokesperson. says he is on administrative leave from teaching and coaching. mary? >> jessica, thank you. he is also a teach teacher at a middle school also in rockville. a powerful winter storm is sweeping across the country bringing blizzard warnings to colorado, kansas and wyoming. a lot of snow is expected. >> reporter: people go to work in the middle of a mass i. snow storm as daylight broke in denver. more than a foot of snow has fallen since the storm started thursday evening. the crews are working around the clock plowing an shoveling. >> it is great for business, if you're in the snow business. >> reporter: the forecasters

expect another foot of snow to fall before the storm moves out on saturday, which can make it one of the top ten snow storms in denver history. >> this is unusual for february. actually, in denver, march is one of our snowiest months. >> reporter: airlines canceled hundreds of flights in and out of denver's airport. schools are closed, and while most of the highways in denver are moving, colorado had to close some parts of the interstate because of the dangerous conditions. >> and the wind also occasionally top 40, convenient 50 miles per hour producing blizzard conditions. visibility at time also be near zero. >> reporter: still some people don't have any choice but to brave the weather and go about their business wjz eyewitness news. no sign of snow here in this err dwra. sky is blue and the sun is bright. wjz has weather and traffic together. we have the numbers from first warning weather and mary has coined it perfectly. when we don't have all of that snow on the ground, the stress level is down. i'm sure you would agree with that, too.

a shoot-out near a taco truck in california is caughten cameras. two men come out from behind a truck and open fire on the truck's owner, but -- but the owner fights back and fires off a few shots from himself. he is recovering from his injuries and the police arrested the two men who attacked him. a california man is thankful for being alive after being almost crushed to death by his own car. >> what is your emergency? >> my dad was working on the car and then the car fell on him. >> reporter: that was the 911 call his daughter made when she found him stuck under his car in the driveway. the man was working on his car when it collapsed on top of him. the police arrived on the scene and were able to get a jack and then get the car off the man,

pull him to safety. he suffered just a few minor injuries. did you notice a lot of people wearing red today? the american heart association is trying to raise awareness for heart disease in women. and in tonight's health watch report, we report for wjz it is the number one killer of women in the u.s. four years ago she has unusual pain. >> in my neck, jaws. >> reporter: but hours later she was rushed to the hospital, she was having a heart attack. >> they told me what i was having, and i couldn't believe it. >> reporter: more women than men die from heart disease each year. the cardiologist says that's because a lot of women don't recognize the first warning signs. >> women can often have different symptoms from men when they have a heart attack. typically men will come in more

weekend, and it is going to actually be our friend when we start to see the moisture from denver coming our way. let's explain how this is all going to play out. the high pressure is very high, 30.41. the barometer is still going up with high pressure in control. 44 now in oakland. 47 in hagerstown. 46 in easton. around the immediate metro area, we're really teetering on the mid 40s. and then 50 in columbia. 46 in annapolis and 46 on kent island and rock hall. the winds are coming in pretty light. we did have some double digit winds earlier ted and they have since calmed down. so a light wind from the northwest. typically it brings cooler air, and it is doing that today. we're not going anywhere near that 70-degree high. we're still above normal, but we're definitely on the cool side. we're tapping into some of these temperatures up around

detroit, chicago. 38, 39 degrees. they're about 10 to 11 degrees cooler than we are. out in denver, one of the coldest spots on the map, as you can see. 27 that is under that low pressure system that is bringing them blizzard-like conditions. a lot of that moisture is going to be headed our way. it is going to lose a lot of the punch as it heads east. it is snow on the western edge of that. rain on the eastern side. as it starts to move in our area, we'll start to see the low dipping down under the mid atlantic that's going to happen saturday into sunday. we'll still be close enough to the cool air that it could pull some of that down and we could see maybe some light rain and snow showers mixed in saturday night into sunday, but the high pressure, the dry air we're talking about, it is going to eat up much of that. so most of that moisture, say, to our south, kind of coming on through here. we'll see rain, but it is not going to be any accumulation and maybe a light mix of snow and sleet, and then we start to clear out again. our sunset today is sat 5:29.

that is eight degrees above average, so you can't complain about that look at radar. there is nothing around here. the high pressure is in control. we're still at 50 degrees now to the west there has been quite a storm over the central portion of the united states. there you see it. it is located over oklahoma city that is expected to pass to our south late saturday night and sunday. it will probably bring us a little bit of precipitation, mainly in the form of a little light rain. it may just be cold enough early sunday morning for a little bit of wet snow. particularly north of the city and across the southern pennsylvania. it won't last long and there is a lot of dry air. take a look at the temperatures around the region now. still pleasant at 50 degrees. and the warmest spot, kummerland at 5 -- cumberland at 52. we'll get down to freezing tonight. again, tomorrow, another day with temperatures well above normal. and then we'll talk about saturday night and sunday when we come back. >> okay, bob. thank you. let's check in on the roads now at wjz traffic control. >> reporter: we do have a

situation out here on northbound 95. and we're over the scene, and it is a crash at the beltway that's on the northeast side on the rosedale side. five vehicles are involved in this accident. the delay right now, at least 20 minutes. things are really, really backing up at least until the split. so the best way to avoid this scenario would be to take route 40 as your alternate, otherwise you're going to be sitting in that for quite some time. the delay just continues to grow. as far as the rest of the region goes on the beltway, a heavy band from york road to providence. the west side inner loop is also slow from southwestern boulevard around to security boulevard and eastbound 70no improvement there. a lot of brake lights as you make your way towards the beltway. windsor mill road at lord baltimore drive, and little patuxent parkway in the columbia area and two baltimore city accidents, east preston and also holiday street. and let's now take a live look. not a bad drive for you, 95

thousands in australia are evacuated from their homes as they see some of the worst gloading in years. the area is under several feet of water. more than 10,000 people have been left stranded. the same region was devastated by flooding early last year. one of the largest cyber hacking groups strikes again, this time targeting the f.b.i. and it is a 15-minute-long recording of a conference call on the internet between the fbi and scotland yard. ironically the two were coming up with a strategy to bring down anonymous. it does not pose an immediate risk. and two women tourists are kidnapped white sight seeing in europe. and they were held for several hours before they were released. >> reporter: the american tourists were reportedly headed to the egyptian resort town when kidnappers armed with

chinese factory workers after forcing them off a bus in a peninsula. they were released the next day. the city of birmingham, alabama, its police chief and four supervisors may be off the hook when it comes to an excess if force lawsuit. >> reporter: they made a federal recommendation they all be dismissed. the lawsuit was filed by anthony warren whose beating by authorities was caught on dashboard video back in january of 2008. before the beating, he took police on a wild chase. it ended when he crashed his van and was ejected from the vehicle. during that chase, he hit and seriously hurt an officer. >> thank you. warren's attorney says a trial is still expected to go forward on remaining claims against six officers. the police are searching for four women who were caught on tape attacking a waitress in illinois. the video was shot by another customer's cell phone. four female customers allegedly started beating up the way stress over bad service at a red lobster in fairview heights. the way stress suffered minor

injuries, including a black eye and the police are searching for those suspects. a second teacher is pulled from a los angeles elementary school on mow less station complaints. the -- mow less station complaints. -- molestation complaints. he was charged with committing lewd acts at that same school. he remains jail and faces life in prison if convicted. a local mother is accused of attacking a 5-year-old girl on her son's school bus. we report from salem, massachusetts. the charges are shocking. >> reporter: walking out of the salem police lock-up, this mother accused of hitting a little girl defends herself. >> she hit my son and i will respond to this later. >> reporter: trying to protect her son, she says, on the school bus. it was headed to carlton elementary when the bus driver says dominique approached angry. >> she started yelling at the bus driver that her child was assaulted on the bus the day

before, and she was obviously upset about it, and she whereas going to take care of it herself. >> reporter: she was on this street when the police say she stepped on board the bus despite the driver's pleas for her to stay away. she marched straight to where her young son was sitting and told him to point out who had hit him. >> he pointed out a kindergarten girl at which point she started hitting her about the head and face. the girl was protecting herself and she was screaming at her all the time, don't ever hit my son again. >> reporter: these buses are equipped with radio so the driver could call for help. by the time the police and an ambulance had met up with them, she had already taken off. not for lock long. the police would later track her down in chelsea where she works. now this mother prepares to defend herself in court who she claims was defending her boy. and she is facing charges of assault, battery and disorderly conduct. gentleman a joke on twitter gets two british tourists

average for this time of year. 45 over in westminster. now, this weekend, saturday night, sunday morning, up here along the extreme northern sections of our region, there may be a light dusting of some wet snow, a little sleet mixture, mainly from the city, a few wet snow flakes. looking for a little rain late saturday night and sunday morning. it may just be cold enough, sort of like we saw a week or so ago, and probably even less. the air is going to be very dry. 50, 31 today. the average, 43. it just jumped one-degree today. 25 is still the average and the record is not that warm. 1932, 66. 1961, the second day in a row for above zero -- four above zero. the winds have generally been out of the north and the northwest. and this is dry and pretty cool air compared to what we saw earlier this week. this is a storm out of the midwest and the plain states. it will be ending in denver, but it is also pretty windy.

they're getting blizzard conditions, kansas, portions of nebraska and northeast portions of colorado. denver picking up anywhere from eight to 15-inches of snow with this. this storm in some form will weaken. we do expect to see clouds later tomorrow. by tomorrow night, a warm front sets up down to our south overrunning precipitation breaks. that means warm air coming in, and we'll probably see a little rain by late tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow night. and as the storm get as little closer, maybe just cool enough on the northern fringe for wet snow, sleet and rain mixture late saturday night and sunday before it clears out. just keep that in mind. the north winds. and that is the bay temperature. and so clear, and it will be chilly with light winds down to freezing. probably 27 to 28, and sunshine giving way to clouds, but still pleasantly mild. tomorrow night a little rain- drizzle and maybe early sunday morning. we might see wet snow flakes
