deadly explosion, the family of a missing utah woman ripped apart once again. tonight breaking details from the scene. good evening everyone, thanks for joining us. i'm adam may. officials say an explosion at a washington state home has killed josh paul. he's the husband of a missing utah woman. also killed in this explosion their two young sons. this explosion occurred this afternoon after a child protective service worker brought the two boys to the home for a supervised visit. we're told that paul let the boys in the house, then blocked the social worker from entering. that's when the social worker smelled gas then the home suddenly exploded. susan paul, you might remember she had been missing since december of 2009.

the case had gardeners gardeners -- garners a lot of attention. nearly two years after a cocksville native yardly love was found dead, her former boyfriend will be standing trial. >> reporter: attorneys for both sides will begin the pain staking process of selecting a jury that's expected to take two days as they try to pick a jury that will ultimately be asked to decide whether as the prosecution contends, this was premeditated murder. yeardley love attended metro dome the prep, police say killed at the hands of her college boyfriend 24-year-old hughley. >> brings attention to a trial that we haven't seen here

before. >> reporter: the university of virginia lacrosse players were having trouble with their relationship. hughley admitted he kicked off the door to her apartment and shook her as her head repeatedly hit the wall. but her defense team says hughley did not intend to kill her. >> hughley only learned yeardley love had died after he was told by his attorney. >> reporter: lacrosse teammates described him as very drunk. >> the prosecution case looks very solid. >> reporter: they will suggest she could have fallen or the prescription drug aderol found in her system probably killed her. >> they're going to try to show that she was drinking too much that night or drinks too much generally. they're probably going to put her a little bit on trial to show that her condition that she caused led to this as much

books, and hundreds to go, they're not finished with the delegation. >> reporter: as we've seen in this race anything can happen. gingrich told tell the nation, if romney wins, he will support him because he thinks president obama is quote, unacceptable. authorities say that nearly 100 people became unruly outside the valley mall waiting for that mall to open this morning. shoppers told officers they had been waiting in line overnight and others began cuts in line. the mall was temporarily shut down. the new sneakers were soldout by 10:00 in the morning. anne arundel county could the be the first to -- if a

sheriff gets his wish. >> reporter: he wants to serve more warrants in his area. now he has a plan to get the criminals to come to him. >> you don't get your tax refund unless you take care of your arrest warrant. >> reporter: he is passing a bill to make anne arundel the first county to not get their tax check until they see him first. >> there won't be any delay in getting their tax refund until they take care of their warrant. >> tax checks are the property of the people not the sheriff. >> reporter: anne arundel county has about 8,000 outstanding arrest warrants. half of them are for people who

you we are cooling down. we're up above average once again this afternoon. 30s to our north and to our south. we are cooling down before yet another round of cold weather heads our way. more pain at the pump. gas prices in maryland have jumped 10-cents despite falling crude prices, the prices are averaging a little lower at $3.37 a gallon. this is still 27-cents higher than january of last year. oil analysts expect gas prices to hit record highs thanks to the ongoing tensions of this week. we still have a lot to come on wjz tonight. >> what happened yesterday at the united nations was a travesty. >> now it's u.n. backlash. u.s. leaders speaking out after a decision to stop the violence

syrians took to the streets outside the russian embassy in tripoli, libya. the violence comes after both libya and china turned down the stoppage of violence. >> what happened yesterday at the united nations was a travesty. those countries that refused to support the arab league plan bare full responsibility for protecting the brutal regime in demascus. >> the violence comes two days after 200 people were killed. the uprising began 11 months ago. a nuclear scare in russia after a fire broke out in moscow. it happened in a plant that holds an atomic reactor. russia says there were no

actual flames or threat of a radiation leak. the environmental group green peace russia have expressed concerns. there's no word on how the fire was started but no one was hurt. there's new information about the geezer bandit, the fbi considers the elderly bank robber a serious threat. surveillance video of him making a quick get away may now prove he's not old at all. >> it doesn't appear to be consistent with someone who is 60 or 70 year old moving at that pace. >> reporter: here's what they think it is, the fbi says that the geezer bandit may be wearing a very elaborate mask. so now a $20,000 award has been offered for any agents that can help unmask him. a man in california used a tasty treat to rob a bank.

police say the man was armed with apple pies from mcdonalds when he held up a bank in sacramento. the man told clerks there that the pies were actually bombs. they apparently believed him. the robber got away but was arrested a short time later. a family of three is rescued in oregon after being lost in the mountains for almost a week. take a look at the video of the helicopter rescue. they found the family after six days in the woods. they originally got lost while they were out there picking wild mushrooms. the three survived by drinking water from streams, they also took shelter in a hollowed out tree. it must have been a big tree to hold a family of three. after all we're told they're doing all right. they used a cell phone, it had no battery i'm told but they

welcome back everybody. well we've gotten rid of all of that winter weather from yesterday. some sun returned today. and we do have a northwesterly wind which is usually a cooler wednesday but we topped out very similar to what we did yesterday. at this hour with the sun setting we are starting to drop. we have a lot of 30s out there to the north and west. we're also hanging on to 30 degrees but we're going up in the next few days. there's a storm passing to the south of us which may bring some clouds by tomorrow but

that looks to be about it. it's that next front which is going to change up our weather pattern a little bit in the middle part of the week. behind it much colder air. we have the mild air that's going to move our way. this is how it works out for us. there's been a lot of areas in the upper 70s today in georgia and south carolina. initially we're going to get some of that milder air starting tomorrow. then that front comes our way on wednesday. it does have colder air behind it so we may see rain or snow showers with the front as it passes through. it will knock down temperatures but very briefly because the second half of the week we're going up to 50 degrees. southwest winds at five to 10 knots. bay temp 41 degrees, look at sunset, all the way down to 32 now. it is going to be a breezy and chilly night out there. tomorrow we're back up to 52.
