lived. investigators say josh powell and the couple's two young sons died when the home burst into flames. >> >> a huge explosion, shook my house and i ran outside and the whole house was on fire. >> firefighters are picking through the debris to determine what caused the explosion. >> reporter: firefighters say the home went up after a worker from child protective services dropped off the children. powell allegedly blocked the social worker from entering the home. moments before, she called the supervisor to report the smell of gas. josh powell is a person of interest in the disappearance of susan powell from december of 2009 >> i did not kill my wife as is alleged. >> he claimed he took his son

camping. a judge denied powell's request to regain custody of his children on wednesday. his lawyer tells the associated press minutes before the explosion, powell sent an e- mail simply saying "i'm sorry. good-bye."
