good morning everybody. i'm terrell brown. we begin, oh, boy, with the super bowl. a game that saw the unlikely new york giants claim their fourth super bowl title in a nailbiter. and just like they did in 2008, the giants knocked off the new england patriots, this time by a score of 21-17. eli manning led the team on an 88-yard fourth quarter win. he was voted game mvp. tom cough lip, 65 years old, became the oldest coach to win a super bowl. much more on the giants big win and controversy during the halftime show -- you knew it was coming -- later on in the broadcast this morning. meanwhile, trouble at the university of massachusetts following the new england loss. unruly fans clashed with police. police used smoke grenades to disperse the crowd. the crowd set off firecrackers and smashed glass bottles. crazy kids. social media sites buzzed with

promises of unrest. at least 14 people were arrested. these u.s. marines in afghanistan were able to watch the super bowl. the marines are based at camp pendleton in california. no word on which team they were cheering for. u.s. troops have watched the last 11 super bowls in afghanistan. >> to politics now. during a pre-super bowl interview, president obama says he deserves to be re-elected. candidates for the republican nomination are gearing up for tomorrow's caucuses in colorado and minnesota. susan mcginnis is in washington with more this morning. good morning to you. >> good morning, terrible. after mitt romney's big win in nevada this weekend, he seems to be solidifying himself as the gop front-runner. you would never know it talking to his rivals. mitt romney is on o the hunt for his next big victory. two days after winning the nevada caucuses, the former massachuset massachusetts voters ahead of the contest tomorrow. as he did in his victory speech saturday night, romney's

expected to continue taking direct aim at president obama. >> this president's misguided policies made these tough times last longer. my priority will be worrying about your job, not saving my own. >> a new poll shows president obama holding a slight edge over romney. but a majority of americans still disapprove of the president's handle of the economy. >> i deserve a second term but we're not done. >> the president made his case for reelection in an interview before the super bowl miemt we created 3.7 million jobs over the last 23 months. we created the most jobs since 2005. manufacturing jobs. but we're not finished. >> despite romney's victories, newt gingrich isn't giving up. he's focused on making it to super tuesday, march 6th and beyond. >> my goal is with governor perry's help and others to be about tied in delegates coming out of tex tech. >> the other gop contenders are also determined to stay in the

race. >> i get energized. there's a large number of people looking for an option. >> this race is a long way from being over. >> with each victory, it appears it's only getting tougher to stop romney's momentum. the latest poll also shows by a ratio of more than two to one americans say the more they learn about mitt romney, they less they like him. when it comes to newt gingrich, that ratio is 3 to 1. terrell, that poll shows for the president's overall approval rating, it now stands at 50%. >> things are heating up. susan mcginnis in washington this morning. always good to see you. also in the pre-super bowl interview, president obama commented on the growing concerns over iran's nuclear program and whether or not israel decided to attack. >> i don't think that israel has made a decision on what they need to do. i think they, like us, believe that iran has to stand down on its nuclear weapons program. we have mobilized the

international kmount community in a way that's unprecedented. >> mr. obama says israel has a right to be concerned and he hopes for a diplomatic solution but the u.s. has not taken any options off the table. the egyptian government is doing what it can, but it can't stop egyptian judges from prosecuting 19 americans and foreign employees of nonprofit groups. the son of transportation secretary ray lahood is there. the charges are unclear. the government blames the pro democracy and human rights groups for triggering the unrest. the u.s. is threatening to cut off $1.5 billion in aid to egypt. opposition groups say troops are shelling the town. at least 50 people are dead. more than 200 people were killed during the government attack on saturday. it was the same day russia and china vetoed a u.n. security council resolution calling on president assad to step down. secretary of state hillary clinton called it a travesty. >> those countries that refuse to support the arab league plan

bear full responsibility for protecting the brutal regime in damascus. >> the u.n. estimates more than 5400 people have been killed since march. the u.s. is proposing an international coalition to support the syrian opposition. rescue workers in eastern pakistan are frantically trying to reach people trapped inside a collapsed building. officials say gas cylinders exploded inside a three-story factory today. two people are dead, 12 others pulled out of the rubble. more than 40 are still missing. authorities say the factory was illegally set up in a residential area. there are questions this morning from washington state child welfare officials. the young children of missing utah woman susan powell are dead, killed in a fire apparently set by her husband. bigad shaban has the tragic story. >> home video shows the intense flames after an explosion ripped through this house in washington

state killing three people. investigators say two young boys died along with their father, josh powell. powell is the husband of a missing utah woman. >> this wasn't an accident. this is josh powell who we believe killed his kids and himself. >> firefighters are picking through the smoldering debris to pinpoint what caused the explosion. while police report powell appears to have used accelerants. officials say the home blew up moments after a worker with child protective services dropped the boys off for a supervised visit with their father. the social worker told police powell blocked her from entering the home. she then called her supervisor to report the smell of gas coming from inside. then the home was in flames. >> heard a huge explosion. it shook my house. >> it was horrific. the flames were huge. >> josh powell is a person of interest in the 2009 disappearance of susan powell in utah. >> i did not kill my wife as has been alleged. >> powell claimed he was off camping with his sons the night susan vanished. he managed to keep custody of

bailout. if greece doesn't get the money, it could go bankrupt next month. a mixed day in the markets. hang seng finished lower a quarter percent. positive job numbers gave all street a boost on friday. the dow finished the week up 201 points, it's now at the highest point since 2008 while the nasdaq added 89. the house of representatives will take up the stock act this week. the measure bans members of congress or their staffs from using inside information to make stock deals. the senate overwhelmingly was approved in legislation last week. the giants and patriots weren't the only rivals going head to head during the super bowl. before the game, ford askeden motors not to run this ad that shows chevy drivers surviving an apocalypse while the driver of a ford is not so lucky. it still aired and cause cost
