fell apart. he claims to have one of the largest collections of presidential memorabilia in the world. now he admits nearly half of it is stolen. his crime spree ending at the maryland historical society. >> it was a small operation and saw they had a golden opportunity to rob us blind. >> reporter: the librarian grew suspicious of landow and his colleague during a july visit. >> they didn't seem trust worthy. >> reporter: he snuck up a back stairwell on to the balcony to get a better look. as landow distracted the other librarian, he spotted him steal adductionment. >> he placed his personal papers on top of the document inside and removed that into his portfolio. >> reporter: police searched this library locker, they found 60 historical documents stashed inside, among those, inaugural invitations, a paper by andrew

jackson. >> in terms of their value to america, they are priceless. >> reporter: land ow is now accused of library theft across the northeast. at times hiding documents in secret pockets in their jackets. library officials are just relieved history is now back where it belongs. >> they say nothing exciting happens in the library. >> reporter: and the historical society is now trying to find the funding to install security cameras throughout the building. >> at least they're being good natured about it now. thank you very much. landow faces a maximum of 15 years beelined bars. a suspected car thief runs inside the freedom and democracy academy. officers searched the building, but they never found the

suspect. the nation's eyes are on a former uva lacrosse player standing trial in the death of his girlfriend. the field of jurors narrows. we are in the court following developments in virginia. >> reporter: at the university of virginia, love and hughley were popular students and lacrosse players. back in 2010, some students became concerned about their relationship problems. but they never thought it would end with love beaten to death. >> i feel really bad for yardley and her family and friends. >> reporter: students on campus now closely following developments at the courthouse just down the street. love's mother sits in court listening intently to jury selection. >> how's your son holding up? >> reporter: hughley's father hoping he isn't sent away to prison for life. >> i feel like he'll get

from the courtroom. wjz has breaking news right now. bel-air police say a baby fetus has been found in a dumpster. it happened in bel-air around 5:30. the baby is believed to be stillborn. police are investigating who may have left it there. we'll bring you the latest as we learn more. more dark developments in washington state has police investigate the family tragedy that claimed the lives of two young boys. josh powell left a voice mail saying he couldn't live without his boys and didn't want to go on anymore. he withdrew $7000 from a bank and then he blew up their house, killing his sons and himself. investigators still have not located powell's wife suzanne who disappeared two years ago, but they acknowledge she is now dead. a ruling on same-sex marriage adds fuel to the heated debate here in maryland. we have the local implications

for proposition 8. >> reporter: what's happening in california is being viewed with great interest here in maryland. it's a victory for supporters of same-sex marriage. a federal appeals court in san francisco overturned the ban on same sex marriage in a 2-1 vote calling it unconstitutional. it moves the issue one step closer to the supreme court. >> thank you for joining our campaign. >> reporter: appeared on politics nation with reverend al sharpton. he says he hopes the federal ruling this california will help maryland pass a bill to allow same-sex couples to get married. >> i hope it will have an influence on those delegates who are still open minded. >> reporter: last week, opponents of same-sex marriage rallied in annapolis. they said the state should define marriage as between a man

and a woman. >> one man and one woman. >> reporter: they are a same-sex couple who were married in washington, d.c. >> as far as the state of maryland is concerned, we're just two people who live together. >> reporter: they support the build. jasmine is pregnant. >> it's frustrating when someone denies your family access to things that other citizens in your state may have. >> reporter: governor omalley has said if the same-sex bill passes, religious institutions would not be penalized if they decide not to marry same-sex couples. the baltimore arch diases takes on the white house. a new federal health care law

requires them to provide contraceptives such as the pill. our media partners report obrien will not follow that law because of religious beliefs. he'd rather not provide health care for workers than comply. voters make their picks in the race for president. santorum revived his campaign by winning in missouri and minnesota. the race is still too close to call in colorado. the state's chief tax collector says no to governor omalley's proposed sales tax on gas. we have the potential impact of the price hike. >> reporter: maryland lawmakers asked to consider a 6% sales tax on gasoline. what the governor calls an investment, they call a beat

clear right now. the complete forecast is coming up. a fiery scene on a south carolina highway. a gasoline tanker overturns and explodes. police say the driver drove off the road and struck a power pole which ignited the gas. the driver was treated and released from the hospital, then charged with excessive speeding. doctormatic surveillance video. the stroller rolls across the platform and falls on to the tracks. you can see a woman chasing after it. she rescued the child just before the next train arrived. the video also shows a man apparently looking at his phone and just letting the carriage roll right by him. the baby was not hurt. an unprecedented response by the los angeles school scandal. they've removed every teacher. two teachers have been arrested and charged with committing lewd acts with their students. angry parents protested saying

good teachers are suffering because of the bad ones. the superintendent says the decision was made because of a culture of silence. the teachers and staff will be eligible to return once the investigation is complete. a bizarre illness over takes a small town in new york. dozens of girls suffering uncontrollable ticks. doctors say it's psychological. the parents are sure it's tied to a haz-mat crisis decades ago. >> reporter: in a small up state new york town, girls are making headlines for their uncontrollable ticks. >> hey, hey. >> i had a couple of people ask me if i was faking this. what i said to them was give me one good reason why i would fake it. >> reporter: it started last summer, more than a dozen girls showed symptoms of uncontrollable ticks, all attend laroy high school. now the group of 12 girls has

grown to include a boy and a woman. >> this is my functional day. >> reporter: famous environmental activist erin brokovich is involved. they believe chemicals are left over from a 1970 train derailment that spilled industrial solvent by the high school. local doctors say they have physical symptoms from stress. >> conversion disorder is real symptoms, such as loss of vision, paralysis, there is nothing wrong with the brain function. >> reporter: some parents refuse to accept that the causes are purely psych lodge. >> even if that was the symptoms of it, we don't know what caused it. >> reporter: doctors have ruled this out as a hoax. they saw all the media attention could be making matters worse for their patients by stressing

them out. they've been advised not to talk to reporters. >> state health officials say a three-month investigation found no environmental or infectious agents. a woman is alive because two good samaritans were in the right place at the right time. the woman was in shock when they found her. they pulled her out through a window just before the car went under. police say the woman admitted she'd been drinking and was charged with driving under the influence. a surprising finding about bread. it is the number one sodium risk for americans. they say bread isn't saltier than other foods, but the sodium content adds up because we eat a lot of bread. 90% of americans exceed the recommended sodium guidelines. the boy scouts aren't the only ones who know how to be prepared. this couple say they're ready for anything, even doomsday.

to see accumulations of snow. how much do we expect? north of the city, generally 1-3 inches. around the city over toward d.c., maybe an inch in some spots on the grass. most areas it will melt in the afternoon. it won't be until evening that we see any accumulation. as the sunsets, it will get a little cooler. late tomorrow night, temperatures will get below freezing. that slush could freeze up. any untreated surface could be slick. generally we're looking at plain old rain. temperatures today were 55, 32 this morning, 43-25. the average record 64 and 6. northeast winds tomorrow, a bit of a southeast flow from time to time that could keep some areas just above freezing. it's a tricky forecast depending on how much air comes in. may see a little snow in garrett

county, oakland area by the morning, probably reaching the baltimore, d.c. area by 1-2:00 p.m. probably changing to wet snow late in the afternoon, continuing into the evening until about 9-10:00, and then it's din. a little package and then it's gone. thursday a night warm up ensues for thursday and friday, back in the upper 40s. so that weak little storm passing through the area, mainly showers. little intermittent snow to the north. don't expect to see a big deal, but you'll see some accumulations on the snow and grass. northeast winds 10-15 on the bay. 42 is the bay temperature. tomorrow, a little bit of precipitation, yes. rain and snow, some accumulation. mainly from city on north. 40 dropping to the 30s in the afternoon, warming up -- 37, 50. 38 on saturday, a lot of clouds.

a 14-point lead for maryland. the clemson tigers claw back. clemson pulls to within 1 point late in the game and the coach and his turps would have to fight to the wire. less than 2 seconds to go, clemson with the inbound. final shot to possibly win by young is no good and the turps survive 64-62. it's maryland's first road victory of the year. >> and we were in complete control of the game. they switched their defense, but our guys got it out. we made just enough free throws, just enough lay ups, and played just enough defense to win. >> playing at clemson was a big thing because their fans were so much into it. they're a great team, we came out with the win. >> mosley surpassed 1000 points for his maryland career. the turps will play at duke

coming up on saturday. home game for unbc fans decked out in black. a black out for the retrievers conference. chase plumber scored a career high 28 points, hit 11 of his 14 shots. despite that, the retrievers fall 76-70. hartford turns out the lights on the black out. rickey williams announced his retirement today. his one season with the ravens is the last in his 11-year career. he scored two touchdowns while serving as back up to ray rice. he retires with more than 10,000 rushing yards. he says the nfl was an amazing page in this chapter of his life. >> that's a good way to think of it. thank you, mark.,,,,
