legalize same-sex marriage here in the state of maryland. now, supporters are taking a stand in annapolis. >> i'm gonna let it shine. >> reporter: sending a message to lawmakers, hundreds of same-sex marriage supporters gather in annapolis and they had the backing of a powerful ally. >> we are very close, but we're not done. we need your help. we need you to keep pushing. >> reporter: these 15,000 postcards will be delivered to members of the general assembly pushing them to support marriage equality. >> it would mean so much. >> i would like to have a big ceremony, but i'm not going to spend the money here in this state until they're willing to accept me as i am. >> reporter: a marathon house hearing. last friday, they testified for 10.5 hours. >> a vote for redefining

marriage is i believe a vote against religion. >> reporter: two weeks ago, opponents held their own rally in the state capital. >> god blessed between one man and one woman. >> reporter: it's an issue dividing the state. they passed same-sex marriage, but it failed in the house of delegates. supporters here hope they have the votes this year. and the governor says the key to passing the bill is getting more republican support in the house of delegates. >> thank you today the governor of washington state signed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage. washington is the seventh state to do so. jurors in the huguely murder trial get a look at the brutal injuries. autopsy pictures were shown of

her badly bruised body. he's accused of beating his ex-girlfriend to death in a drunken rage. a new police rule protects your right to video tape officers on the job. we have the judge's decision and the new police video that has surfaced this evening. >> reporter: a federal lawsuit over whether you can record police in public places will move forward. >> turn that off. >> reporter: it stems from this video in 2010. he claims city police illegally seized his phone and deleted his video. >> it was absolutely the way i felt then, the way i feel now about it. the humiliation was enormous. >> reporter: the city wanted to dismiss the case, arguing a new policy mandating officers allow people to record them fixes the

problem. >> out of the majority of the departments in the nation, you know, we're one of the first to prom gait rules. take that for what it's worth. >> reporter: on friday, just hours after that policy went public, this video surfaced. an officer appearing to threaten a man with arrest. >> i'm leaving. >> turn around and walk. >> i'm leaving. >> reporter: in court, sharp's lawyer used it to keep their case alive. >> these are fundamental constitutional rights. they affect citizens everywhere. this is an issue we're seeing nationally. >> reporter: a judge dismissed charges against a man for recording this maryland state police traffic stop. sharp knows he's in for a long battle. his case could take months to resolve. he's ready to fight. >> i want to see justice done. this is bigger than just me. >> reporter: the aclu is behind the lawsuit and has the backing of the u.s. justice department.

>> police have yet to publicly identify the officers involved in sharp's incident. violent protests as the greek government tries to save the country from economic collapse. buildings were torched, protesters fought with police. they're angry because the government cut their minimum wage and eliminated 10s of thousands of jobs. greece's unemployment rate is 20%, for young people it's 50%. in washington d.c., three people dangled from the bridge as they hung a sign calling for tibet's freedom from china. president obama will meet with china's vice president tomorrow. a man is arrested on child sex charges, accused of pulling a middle schooler out of class, then groping her in an empty parking lot. how the man who is a fellow parent apparently preyed on the family's trust.

>> reporter: the city school system says the suspect is the parent of a child who attends the school. the parents of the victim say this is a gross betrayal of trust. arrested charles shelly last week. police say he sexually assaulted a student. >> he's arrested for an incident that happened back in december where he allegedly sexually assaulted and inappropriately touched a 13-year-old female. >> reporter: they say shelly was supposed to drive the victim home from school but instead, took her to the park and groped her inside his car. police say after charles shelly left the park, he drove the teenage victim here to what used to be a high school and assaulted her again. shelly mentored several young girls. apparently he was able to remove the victim and other girls from

class for mentoring. the school system says shelly was not an authorized mentor, nor an employee. how he gained access is unclear. >> he later drove her home. she told her parents and the police were called. >> reporter: the parents of the victim say they know the suspect. the victim told police this is not the first time an assault has occurred. however, she was not specific about when or where it happened. back to you. >> thank you. the city school system says according to therapywork, shelly has never been fingerprinted. there's a $2500 reward for anyone who can help the humane society to find out who abandoned a badly injured dog. police suspect that rocky road, as he's being called, was used as a bait dog in a dog-fighting ring. tonight, he is recovering well and almost ready for adoption.

it's 36 degrees, mostly cloudy. the complete forecast is coming up. the ski lodge at a popular western pennsylvania resort is destroyed in a spectacular fire. the intense heat melted hoses

and shattered the windows of some of their trucks. strong winds and single digit temperatures also hampered their efforts. the owners plan to open for skiing in a couple of days. an emotional scene as rescue crews work to save a little girl buried in an avalanche. she was inside her home which was under 30 feet of snow. 9 people were killed in the avalanche. the bitter cold and snow is being flamed for over 500 deaths across europe. a judge's ruling gives more freedom to jerry sandusky. he will now be allowed to see his grandchildren while under house arrest. he's charged with 52 counts of child sex abuse. rejected a prosecutor's request that jurors come from outside the central state area. a severe drug shortage, the drug is a crucial form of treating a form of leukemia.

they fear the shortfalls may hit hospitals within two weeks. the largest manufacturer of the drug shut down the plant last year. tonight, wjz investigates prescription drug shortages as brenda freeze shares her fight to find a solution. >> reporter: you'd never know it now. but not too long ago, one of these twins nearly died. >> obviously, you know, you feel helpless. >> they said he had a matter of weeks left to live. >> reporter: she and her husband mark remember the moment doctors told them their son tyler had leukemia. >> when you hear that word, you're thinking what? you're thinking cancer. you're thinking the worst. my initial thoughts that whole night was how much time do i have left with my son? >> reporter: doctors immediately

started pumping chemotherapy drugs into tyler to stop the fast-moving disease. >> these chemicals are saving his life. >> reporter: it was only after his chemo that they discovered the miracle drug that saved their son might not be there for others. in short supply, its cost has skyrocketed from $12 a vile to nearly a thousand. they worried about parents who couldn't afford it. >> i couldn't imagine them saying there's a drug, but it's not available. >> reporter: it isn't just one drug. pharmacists and doctors say drug shortages tripled in the last six years. >> i'd be surprised if 2012 isn't worse. >> reporter: why is this happening now? aside from production problems, once a drug turns generic, profits plummet so there's less incentive to make it. can you say this is driven by a

profit motive? >> it's just not worth their while to make the cheap drugs any longer. >> reporter: drug makers disagree saying shortages happen when there's an increased demand for a drug they had not anticipated. sometimes doctors cannot get the very drug that could save your life or you can't afford it. >> i have had at least two patients who could not afford their drugs and have to go the hospice route. >> these people that are wanting to gain a profit, what would their life look like if their son or daughter who was someone that needed this drug? >> reporter: they turned anger into action. maryland lawmaker is outraged. >> what you're doing is stealing somebody's life. if we can't take care of americans when they're going through illness, if we can't make sure they're not taken advantage of, we need to go home and do something else. >> reporter: little tyler might help make a big difference.

let's look at temperatures around the region. with a lot of clouds moving in after a pleasantly warm day, down to 36. air is very dry. dew points quite low. humidity only 47%. right now, the winds are dead calm. barometer holding steady to the west. it is colder, 27. locally, temperatures in the mid to upper 30s, the coolest spot west minister. it looks like at this point, the precipitation we've been following for the last day is really weakening quite a bit. the chance of much precipitation are not that great. 48-20, today. the record, 72 in 1951 and in 1983, 1 above 0. they're turning more to the south around then to the east as a very weak system approaching from the west. this warm air trying to move over top of the cool surface we

have. it's very, very dry here. any clouds that are building are really dry. not much in the way of precipitation. might see a few wet snow flakes tonight. it's possible north of the city, late tonight, some of these clouds might produce a few wet snow flakes and showers. that's about it. it's very weak as it moves through the region. all in all, just a cloudy and rather mild day with temperatures once again near 50 degrees. on wednesday, once this system goes through the region, even milder air temporarily, temperatures may get up to 50. 53 by thursday. another low pressure following that, but a good chance of rain on thursday. wednesday looks like a decent day with mild temperatures predominating most of the week. bay temperature around 40 degrees. so tonight you might see a wet snow shower by the morning.
