trial. the prosecutors break down while lawyers for george huguely fire back. tonight an expert tells only wjz how he leaves yeardley love really died. good evening, i'm andrea fujii. here is what people are talking about tonight. the final words. tonight prosecution and defense lawyers in the george huguely murder trial addressed the jury for the last time. the maryland man is a accused in his girlfriend's death at uva. there were tears and a tough final definition witness, an expert who insists that yeardley love was not beaten to death. adam may has the latest on the case head to the jury. adam. >> reporter: andrea, so much new information on this case, a very busy day in charlottesville. let's me start by telling that defense attorneys are giving their closing arguments. these are some of the most dramatic closing arguments i have ever witnessed of the prosecutor in this case actually broke down in tears

and starting crying, trying to explain what it was like for yeardley love in the final moments of herb life and george huguely is sitting a9 defense table inside this building. he is watching these proceedings and i must tell you he appears a little bit nervous. george huguely wiped his face rentid also fiscaletting as prosecutors described yeardley's love final moments of life during closing arguments. in may, 2010 they sayhov was in her off-campus at university of virginia when huguely kicked her door," imagine what that is like, trying to get away." prosecutors say love can't scream because huguely covered her mouth. and then she showed the autopsy photos of love's beaten face. you could hear crying in the courtroom and even the prosecutor broke down in tears describing how love was left face down in her own bed drying for up to two beds. huguely took love's computer which contained a threatening e-

mail, "i should it have killed you." prosecutors say when huguely threw the computer in a dumpster, it proves intent. prosecutors ended by saying, "this was not an accident." defense attorneys it focused the end of their case on the medical evidence. again, how do you think she died? >> oxygen deprivation. >> reporter: speaking briefly with wjz, this expert spoke. and so right now the defense attorneys inside the courtroom are trying to convince jurors this was not premediated and here is what they said. they said that george huguely is "a stupid drunk, but not calculating. you get what you get." they say he is a "benjamin athlete." they are trying to convince the

jury that george huguely doesn't have the mentality capacity to plan out a first- degree murder and said in court "george does bear some responsibility for yeardley love's death." the defense is trying to det the jury to convict him on a lesser charge. they are pushing the jury to convict on involuntary manslaughter and that would be a conviction, a sentence ten years or less in prison, the first-degree murder charge would be life in prison of the jury has already received the instructions and these closing arguments should be ending any moment and the jury will begin their deliberations. so it's possible, depending on how quickly they work that we could see a verdict later on tonight. live in charlottesville, virginia, adam may. >> stay with wjz as the trial continues and we'll bring you latest from the courtroom on air and onliar at wjz.com.

in the streets. ♪ so goodbye >> reporter: as those who knew her celebrated her life. newark, new jersey, manuel gallegos, wjz eyewitness news. and houstons a ex-husband bobby brown appeared briefry at the funeral. brown says in a statement that "he and his children were seated, but asked repeat thely to move." he said he left because he didn't want to create a scene. also winter weather may be heading our way tomorrow, but it's gorgeous outside right now. we're going to take a live look outside. it's hard to tell that some snow may be heading our way, but bernadette woods is live with an updated look. >> hello andrea and everybody out. there we're going to start out with a graphic to show you what we have been dealing with today, because this factors into the storm coming our way. it's is warm, very warm outside and even with the sun setting it's still 49 degrees in baltimore and 55 in d.c. so the ground is very warm and that one is thing that the storm will have is to overcome. switching to radar, here is the

storm moving our way. coming up from the southwest there are a couple of showers to the north of us, but that is a senator system. behind that cool air will come into play. what we're going to do now is switch back over and show you this graphic. there is a lot this storm is working with. and a lot is working against the storm. it's going to be dry air come down from the north and there is going to be some warm air already in place. so there is a chance we're going to see some accumulating snow out of this, but still a lot of details we have to talk about. stay with us and we have the forecast coming up. >> thank you, bern. same-sex couples are one step closer to walking down the aisle legally in maryland. the simple marriage protection act narrowly passed in the house of delegates. weijia. >> reporter: andrea, opponents say they will fight this bill to the very end, but same-sex couples across the state are celebrating. michele and tracy have been in

love for 20 years. they proudly raised two children together. >> we're very happy. i mean, it's like we're in love everyday, and i just love being with tracy for the rest of my life. >> reporter: five years ago they got married in vermont where same-sex marriage is legal. >> we're as committed as any heterosexual couple. >> reporter: soon their marriage could be. the house of delegates passed a bill that would legalize same- sex marriage by one vote, despite very vocal opponents. >> everywhere i go, i am told by people that i don't know, don't do this, it is wrong. it is wrong. >> reporter: with a huge victory for the governor, who threw all of his support behind the bill after it failed to get through the house last year. >> our leaders that we elect are moving us forward as one people with care for one

created 22 new cardinals in the roman catholic church. in a shorter than normal ceremony at st. peters, one build it pageantry annapolisent and answerrent tradition, pope benedict smiles warmly and gives o'brien his cardinal's ring. he is the 15th archbishop of the country's oldest archdiocese and only the fourth to be elevated to cardinal. about a hundred flew to rome include a dozen from the baldwin family from baltimore. >> as members, we're honored he received such an honor. >> reporter: there are laf a million catholics under his guidance. earlier o'brien met with many street maryland who traveled to rome, including this family. >> he took the time to meet every individual person who was

take a look at this dramatic fire that broke out at washington state's largest oil refinery. it ignited when crude oil leaked between a healer and vacuum unit. no one was seriously hurt and both federal and state agencies are investigator. a man is evicting his elderly mother from her home home in connecticut. an evaluation proved the woman is competent, but technically the house is under her son's name. the man hasn't seen his mother in eight months and he says she is worried about her safety. >> i don't like the way she is living there. at her age, at 98 i'm sure she should be with people of her peers. she should have her measles on time. >> the family plans to settle their feud in court.

it's a terrifying rescue mission in denver when a puply flips through thin ice. firefighters managed to pull the dog from the freezing water. it's not clear how the dog ended up in the lake. oh, there he goes. officials are investigating and looking for ,,,,,,,,,,

. now first in weather, the fort collins of severe weather. >> this is gorgeous day today. 's it's hard to believe it's all going away. [ laughter ] >> it's not going as nice tomorrow, but we're going it take you through this storm. way above that afternoon which keeps on climbing at 46 degrees and even at this hour we're still at 49 in baltimore, 50 in shakerstown and 55 in d.c. so you know it's warm, the ground is very warm and the storm is

on its way. you notice offer to the northeast of us, there are a few showers and snow showers. that is the term is that is passing by and will allow cold air behind it. at the same time this is the storm that is move our way and pillsbury up a lot of moisture as it moves into on or before direction is direction. the two meet on top of us tomorrow, but it's a really fine line of what we're go to see. this is what we mean. the cold air come down from the north is cold, but not frigid and also, it's dry. at the same time you have that moisture come up from the south. and that line in between is where we're going to see a little bit of snow accumulating. the farthest out you go, the more there is going to be, but it's really fine line. if this shifts to the north at all, we could get more of this and if it moves south, we might not see anything at all. at this point the watches and warnings are to the southwest of us. appalachians will get the biggest amount. so this is what we're thinking

the biggest amount coincides with the watches and warnings. here is the 2-4 marker and north of, that a trice to 2". farther north, you get the cold air, but lose moisture. the farther south you go, probably going melt on the ground as the rain-snow mix before changing over to snow and then just a chance for small accumulation tomorrow night into monday morning. by the time we hit monday we're back into the 40s. so the forecast is like this. on the water, small-craft advisories in effect. this is a storm tomorrow. could start with a rain-snow mix tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow afternoon everything could change to snow and accumulation is possible tomorrow night into monday. it's a really fine line with this storm tomorrow. so check back in with us and we'll get ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
