nearly turned deadly. day cross breaks out after two cars collided. >> it kind of opens your eyes a little bit. >> reporter: the 23-year-old driver of this suv was celebrating with his wife and kids. >> apparently he had just gotten married today too. that's what i heard. >> reporter: he got into an altercation of this pt cruiser. >> there's a gentleman that got out of his car, looks like he had grease all over his shirt but it turned out to be blood. >> reporter: the victim went after his assailant. >> hit him in the face. knocked him to the ground. and he was bleeding from the face pretty profusely.

>> reporter: these pictures taken by employees of the -- >> there were children running around, dogs. >> reporter: they are searching for answers into how a highway dispute escalated to this level. >> this was an exceedingly dangerous situation and we're very lucky no one got killed. >> reporter: investigators believe the assailant was also stabbed during one of the altercations. a passenger in one of the cars was taken to the hospital. witnesses say she was not wearing a seat belt and flew into the windshield. breaking news from hartford county where three people have just been killed in an accident. three cars were involved in the crash on rout 43 near wheel road in bell air. three other people were rushed to the hospital. we have a crew headed to the scene. we're working to get more information. another crash kills a person. witnesses say the out of control car was going more than

an outspoken sheriff is denying allegations he threatened to deport his ex-boyfriend. paul baview is running for congress but says the controversy will not stop his campaign this -- the father of a 22 -month-old bought his son to the hospital because he could not stand on his feet and could not stop crying. the boy was over the limit at .5. his mother was three times the

legal limit. late one night inside this house in bell air something terrible happened. 16-year-old robert richardson tells police he grabbed a gun and killed his father. and it was no accident. >> he didn't wake up that morning and said i'm going to blow my father's brains out. that's been common for a long time. he was terrorized. he was terrified of his father. >> reporter: robert's friends tell us he wore dirty, clothes that did not fit him. and he was often displaying bruises. >> he had bruces on his chest, collar bone, everywhere. >> i just wish i could have done something before. >> you wish you could have prevented it? >> yeah. >> i recently met with family, friends and neighbors who started a free robert richardson page to raise money for his defense. >> what was the overriding factor in this particular case that made you particularly want you get involved. >> there's a child that needs

somebody's help. we may be late but we're here now. >> we know what he did was wrong. we just want him to have a shot at his future. that's why we're all here. >> reporter: few new richardson's father better than his cousin mary jane. who lives just a few hours away. >> reporter: when you heard your cousin was dead. what was your first thought. >> my first thought was, what the hell did he do to that child to do that. because he was never like that. >> reporter: were there warning signs that could have been missed and could authorities have acted before it was too late. >> they know there were so many signs that something was wrong in that house and too many people looked the other way. >> reporter: wjz obtained these documents which show hartford county sheriff responded to the richardson house 16 times but never for domestic violence. >> of the times that we were called to go to that home over

the last year none of those were related to child abuse, neglect or domestic violence. >> reporter: while people say the young man was in danger, no one suspected abuse. i -- >> i felt the boy has been so let down. and so void since his mother died. >> reporter: child abuse does happen, each time people ask could something have been done to prevent it. >> is this issue bigger than just one child. >> every single one of us is responsibility. every single person who look it is other way is guilty. >> reporter: richardson has been charged for murder as an adult. so far the facebook page has raised $4,500 for his defense.
