charges in connection with a road rage stabbing that occurred in anne arundel county. ron mass is live in the newsroom with the details. good afternoon. >> good afternoon. police have now arrested the driver who was stabbed in that incident. 44-year-old jeffrey furlough is charged with assault. police say he knocked out 23- year-old ross sudden brook. it started after the two men got into an argument. police say they stabbed furlough and furlough followed and crashed him with both vehicles in the ditch. the two then got into a fist fight. both men sustained nonlife- threatening injuries. jessica, back to you. thank you. still no word on what that fight was about at that red light. >> anne arundel county police are asking for help to solve a strong arm robbery in annapolis. that's where last night a 54- year-old woman and 64-year-old man were walking to their car when three men approached them. one of the men pushed the man out of the way and stole a laptop computer from him. the three then took off in a stolen black bmw with washington, d.c., plates.

police say it's a crime that doesn't fit the area. >> i would describe it as very unusual type of crime for the annapolis area for a strong armed robbery but we have a good presence in the area and we want folks to know we were out in the area and we have an excellent working relationship with the mall. >> couple was not injured and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call metro cripe stoppers at 1-866-7- lock up. we were getting word there are reports of a strong odor in harford county. residents reported the smell to 911 this morning. investigators say they determined the odor is coming from a new jersey facility that released gas into the air overnight. the location is affected is aberdeen, churchville and other areas along the u.s. route 40 corridor. there are no reports of any hazards or health or safety hazards. today started off with some clouds and drizzle but nonetheless it's warm out there for february. a live look outside right now shows the rain has stopped but pretty gloomy out there.

we have complete first weather coverage for you. marty is in the weather center. good afternoon, marty. bad hair day. >> say it again? >> bad hair day. >> i wish i could say that. let's take look at first alert radar. it's been a mild and moist morning and mid-day. and we have shower activity around the region right now. we were getting a break in the action here on tv. i will widen this out and i will want you to know there is more on the way. frankly we were stuck at this point in the upper 40s. which is about i'm going to say 12 to 15 degrees in some locations. chillier than at this time yesterday. that's all going to change. we are going to go into the mid- 60s. backed off into the mid-70s but we will hit the mid-60s for an hour in about three or four hours. when it gets warm you will notice these counties start lighting up. we will have a high wind warning in effect from carroll

county on west. we will have a wind advisory in effect for the 95 corridor and portions of the eastern shore and look way down to the south and there is tornado watch in effect. a strong cold front coming through. it's going to bring us thunderstorm. and that severe dynamic should stay south of the chesapeake bay but winds that will be an issue. starting at about 3:00. through dinner time we will see gusts of 45 to 50-mile-per- hour. very potent cold front getting ready to dive through the area. the next six hours of weather will be real interesting to watch and be a part of. we will follow the story for you through the afternoon and have more details in our first warning weather segment and now back to you. a federal jury convicts last of 17 baltimore police officers charged in a kick back scheme that is according to our media partner the "baltimore sun." the officer was found guilty of conspiracy and extortion while officer calvin manric fleeded guilty to the same count. they are said to have taken thousands of dollars from the own of majestic auto repair for

day of deadly protests over the burning of the koran on a u.s. military base. afghan security forces fired their guns into the air in cable trying to get the -- kabul trying to get the crowd to break up. fle on high alert dressed in riot gear and expecting angry crowds. some of the demonstrations happened outside of bagram air base where the koreans were burned tuesday. an afghan soldier turned his guns on american troops there on thursday killing two. top u.s. commander in afghanistan visited that base telling u.s. forces that now it's not the time for revenge. and he asked afghans to exercise restraint and patience. >> we admit our mistake. we asked for forgiveness. and we seek to move on. >> the president also apologized for the incident in a letter to afghan president hammad car displie. the white house says president obama's main concern is the safety of americans in

afghanistan. u.s. officials insist the copies of the muslim holybacks were for prisoners at the air base were sent by mistake to a pit used to burn garbage. defense secretary leon panetta ordered a full investigation into how that happened. and he promises they will hold the individuals involved accountable. afghan president karzai has called for calm as well but the messages from world leaders are falling on deaf ears. wjz ions. delegation of afghan religious leaders issued a statement yesterday calling for an end to the violence and saying they expect the people responsible will be prosecuted through the u.s. military court system. it is now a fate come plea for horse loverrers in ocean city. this week for the first time a living mem require horses and riders on shore. horseback riding is allowed on the beach from november 1 to march 30. with a $50 permit. the town council hopes the new rule will draw more beach visitors in the off season.

it could take weeks to determine what caused two marine helicopters to collide leaving seven marines dead. the two choppers crashed into each other in mid-air and wednesday night during a training exercise along the arizona -- california border. marines were preparing to be deployed in afghanistan. marine corps hasn't released names and home towns of those kills but six of seven were stationed out of camp pendleton. >> an eight-year-old girl have to undergoing more surgery after being shot in school. the girl was shot in the arm and the bullet went into her stomach causing significant organ damage. police say a nine-year-old classmate brought that gun to school and it accidentally went off in his back pack. a juvenile judge will determine

maryland spca. and who beliefs we can make a difference for pets that need a home a happy dog. let's talk weather here. i will go to first warning doppler radar. right off the get go and added the front on the map to show you there is warm air down to the south. earlier we were forecasting a high of 76 degrees and we meant it and we backed that off to 66 degrees and i believe that will happennism will take awhile to get this warm air into the region. here is that strong cold front that could bring us couple of thunderstorms that would usher in heavy winds into the area as this moves in an easterly direction it will compress this warm up over the bam region around the mason-dixon line then the front will come through. get to 66 degrees for an hour at about 3:00 or four hours. watch and warning of importance to us is a high wind warning from carroll county out to the west and wind advisory in

effect for the central portion of the state and portions of the eastern shore with exception of the route 50 corridor down toward ocean city and gusts to 45 to 50 miles per hour. particularly start moving out toward carroll county and out west. 48 degrees right now. 5% humidity. barely breeze. barometer at 29.52 and we haven't been able to get temperatures up. you can see where this warm air is. 53 oakland and 53 and 06 pax river and ocean city we are getting a bay effect if you will. fact of the matter remains in three or four hours temperatures are going to hop up area-wide. front comes through the region. skies clear out and we were living large albeit nor february like, more standard readings last weekend of february than temperatures we had throughout 9 bulk of that week. then once we get into next week and toward the end of the month, guess what, stays calm. relatively sunny. and frankly gets mild again. 66 to 72.

in the heal watch, eating citrus fruit may reduce a woman's risk of stroke. scientists in the uk tracked thousands of women and found those who ate a lot of oranges and grapefruit had a 19% lower risk of stroke. citrus contains a type of flavenoid that improves blood vessel function and has an anti- inflammatory effect. new evidence that patients with kidney failure can improve their health by ramping up dialysis treatments. the conventional approach is to go for dialysis treatment three times a week for up to four hours a visit but several new studies suggest longer and more frequent treatments could bring better rules. dialysis takes over the role of healthy kidneys filtering and cleaning the blood. >> want to check back in with wjz eyewitness news at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00.
