get as high as 40-50 miles per hour. malicious or childish? opening statements in the invasion of privacy trial of a rutgers university student. manuel gallegus reports for wjz. >> reporter: robby faces 15 criminal charges including a hate crime related to the suicide of his gay college roommate, tyler clement. he used a web cam to spy on him having sex with another man. these acts were purposeful, they were intentional and they were planned. >> reporter: robby sent an instant message to a high school friend telling him about the sexual encounter. the friend was the first witness and read the message to the court.

>> i went in to his room and turned on the web cam and saw him making out with some dude. >> reporter: two days later he asked if he could have the room to himself again. robby invited friends to watch on his web cam, what he expected to be another sexual encounter. he knew what his roommate was up to and disabled the camera. the next day he jumped from the george washington bridge. prosecutors offered him a plea deal to avoid a trial. he rejected it insisting he did not commit crimes. his parents listened as the defense stressed he was 18 at the time. just a boy, who was not home phobic and meant no harm. >> there was no bullying. >> reporter: his attorney told jurors the image with the other man list lasted a few seconds and a few people saw it. manuel gallegus, wjz 13 eye witness news. if convicted robby faces

ten years in prison. police make a second arrest in a violent road rage incident. mike hellgren is live with more on the suspect and the charges. >> arundel county police arrested the driver who was stabbed in the incident. furlough is facing assault charges after an altercation. it started when the men got in to a confrontation at a red light. police say frederick stabbed furlough, the two vehicles crashed and the men got in to a fight. police charged sud brook this week. coming up new tonight at 6:00, mike speaks exclusively to furlough's wife who watched the incident unfold. huh she says this has impacted the family. jurors listened to testimony on both sides of the george huguely murder trial for the past three weeks. >> at least one juror says it

the top u.s. commander in afghanistan made a special trip to the forward operating base where an afghanistan soldier turned his gun on american troops. general john allen offed condolences and urged constraint. >> now is not the time for revenge. now is not the time for vengeance. look deep inside your soul, remember your mission, remember your discipline. >> reporter: u.s. officials promised a full investigation in to the koran burning incident and confident it won't have a long lasting impact on the mission there. the up tick in violence is concerning the u.s., and it's nay to allies, who are working to withdrawal all troops from afghanistan by the end of 2014, it's gratified the afghanistan president called for calm pending the outcome of an investigation.

hello, thank you for staying with eye witness news i'm vic carter. >> i'm denise koch. >> wild weather moves in to maryland without the sun, chilly temperatures take over , there is severe weather to our south, let's get over to bob turk who is tracking a tornado warning. this means doppler radar is indicating rotation in the thunderstorm near the hebern area. it's 60 miles per hour, off to the east and northeast, and that warning until 4:45 this afternoon. possibly could spawn a tornado through that region. packing delmar, on the maryland delaware border until 4:45. if you are in the region, take shelter. even with that tornado activity, the winds can gust to at least 50-60 miles per hour with that kind of motion.

shuttle challenger disaster is being made public for the first time. kai jackson has more on what is footage shows. >> the 1986 video surfaced on the website new newscientists.com. this is only the second amateur video to go public since 1986. all seven on board died when the space shuttle broke apart 73 seconds in to flight. carmen says he and other onlookers had no idea what had gone wrong. carmen went through his old footage to digitize it all. a dramatic rescue in delaware with seconds to spare, two sisters escaped the path of a speeding train. >> this rescue occurred in the nick of time. it happened to more than a dozen others including a woman rescued by a college student from baltimore.

with only seconds to spare, a driver and passenger, sisters from del aware, escape an on coming train. two sanitation workers happened to drive by and see the car stuck around 4:00 a.m. thursday morning on the university of del aware campus. the video capture bade surveillance camera shows the confused driver making a turn onto the tracks, thinking it was the road. her car gets stuck , the wheels spin for a few minutes, the passenger gets out tries to push the car but the driver doesn't want to live her vehicle. >> i'm like, i can't believe this is happening. >> reporter: the two men and the passenger move away, knowing the train is approaching but the driver is trying to move her car. told her four times, i said i can't leave her. i said get out of the car. she stepped one foot out, by the time he got the second foot out , the train wiped the car out. >> the dargo train plows in to the car pushing it hundreds of yards down the track leaving it

baby. the father of a nine year old boy responsible for washington state school shooting says it was all a mistake. we weren't allowed to show his face, this boy didn't look dangerous. a little kid with a brown crew cut, all 75 pounds wrapped in an orange jail jump suit. his dad, jason cochran, cried in disbelief as judge explained to the boy he was charged with assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and bringing a gun to school. >> he made a bad mistake to everybody. >> reporter: a 45 caliber that went off in the backpack when he slammed it down on his desk. the bullet critically injuring a student, a 9-year-old boy struggled to understand what the judge meant by causing

condition and lost control as he was pulling in to a parking lot. a customer was taken to the hospital and expected to be okay. a teenager is attack beside acoyote in new hampshire. the 15 year old has scratches on his neck, hands and bandages on his fist. a coyote attacked him. he punched it the mouth until it ran away. the coyote may have rabies. the teen is taking rounds of rabies shots. a police officer in illinois is in trouble after pulling over the mayor's son and letting him go. this is dash cam video of the incident. the officer pulled over the pinckneyville mayor's son but rumors the man was driving drunk has spread. the officer is suspended for
