of the baltimore, washington area, it's particularly strong over worster, wicomico and summer set county. to the west of berlin, snow hill, moved through salisbury. that's where the activity is. it's very quickly off to the east, and around 60 miles per hour. extremely fast moving storms. stuff over del aware, moving through the region to the east, around the baltimore and dc area, just light rain moving back in. that would be ending in the next hour or two. lot of wind moving with that. look at the advisorys. extreme so you were portions of the region. extreme southern portions of the lower eastern shore and a little bit of lower portions of southern maryland under a watch until 8:00. everybody else, under wind advisorys, high wind warnings through late tonight. wind gusts over 40 to maybe 50 miles an hour. we jumped up to 51, close to 60

ocean city. places in the eastern shore get in to the 70s. 44 oakland. winds picking up west, that's going to show where the front is, 16 and 19, oakland, currently wind gusts up to 29, packs river with thunderstorm activity, wind gust there is in the last hour at 38 miles per hour. things will be clearing out but the main picture will be the winds picking up as strong as 40, maybe 50 miles an hour wind gusts, could cause power outages and branches and trees to come down. for the first time hearing from the jury that convicted george huguely in the murder of yeardley love. jessica kartalija joins us with new insight in to their verdict. >> at least one juror says it was the most difficult thing he has ever had to do. he is confident they did make the right decision. >> i was completely -- her eye was completely swollen shut. >> reporter: juror eian describes a photo of love's

battered face. he says the most difficult part of george's murder trial was seeing love's autopsy photos. >> the truth is, the scar is going to be there my whole life. i never knew yeardley love, but i got to know her best friends, i got to know her family, i got to see parts of her life in photographs. >> reporter: love who grew up in cockeysville was killed in may of 2010. huguely was found guilty of second degree murderer and grand larceny. >> we all did not think that the killing was premeditated. we don't think he went over there with the purpose of killing yeardley love. george's statement was painful. i feel for him. he bears responsibility for what happened. i wish we weren't put in the situation to make that

judgment. i wish it never happened. >> reporter: jury recommends huguely spend 26 years behind bars. >> when we came out with the verdict, both times, i was not afraid to look at george and look at him and i think that's because i was confident that we did was right. >> in recommending a sentence they asked if they thought huguely was a threat to society and agreed there was some feeling as an alcoholic, he might be. >> jessica, thank you. as for the love family, the juror doesn't know if he will contact them. police make second arrest in the road rage attack. denise koch is going to explain the new charges. >> jeffrey furlough is now facing assault charges. it stems from an argument that began at a red light along crane highway. he was stabbed by ross, a

passenger in another car. furlough chased after sud brook's vehicle and both crashed in to a ditch. police say the men got in to a fight. furlough is charged with first and second degree assault for his role in the incident. furlough's wife was in the car and watched everything unfold. she speaks ex-clues wifl the wjz coming up at 6:67:89. a mysterious and abrupt leadership for maryland university. the departure is causing a stir. it's causing an un usual amount of silence. welcome to the university of maryland, university college. >> reporter: susan is considered a national leader in on line higher education. since 2006, she has been

president at umuc, the school claims to be the world's fastest growing virtual campus. given that success, a statement from the university shocked higher education circles, a spokesman writes president susan will be on leave for an un determined period of time. wjz asked if it was voluntary and we were told she was placed on leave but the school wouldn't say why. wjz reached out the a number of members on this school's board, we were repeatedly told no comment and one person told me i'm not talking about that. people talk a lot about giving back. >> reporter: seen in this video, the former chair of the board of visitors, was the only member who agreed to speak briefly with wjz by phone. he said he had limited information about aldridge's departure. >> i'm prod to have you on this campus. >> reporter: according to open

records, aldridge made $300,000 a year. that salary is considerably less than her counter parts at other universities. the school is already appointed an interim president as of right now. adam may, wjz 13, eye witness news. >> we tried to contact a few professors and they had no comment. general assembly pass a same-sex marriage bill and the governor expected to sign it. will marylanders end up voting on it. wj z is live. opponents are taking the steps to bring the legislation to referendum. the governor has not signed the bill in to law as of yet, it's very likely that it's going to end up on the november ballot and because of that, both sides of the same-sex marriage debate are flexing their political and religious muscle.

jersey. officials said strong easterly winds carried vapors to maryland and pennsylvania. a close call on the tracks is caught on tape in del aware. two sisters escaped the path of a speeding train with seconds to spare and it's happened to a dozen others including a woman rescued by a college student from baltimore. with only seconds to spare, a driver and passenger, sisters from del aware, escape an on coming train. two sanitation workers happened to drive by and see the car stuck around 4:00 a.m., thursday morning, on the university of del aware campus. the video captured shows the confused driver making a turn onto the tracks, thinking it was the road. her car gets stuck , the wheels spin and the passenger gets out, tries to push the car but the driver doesn't want to heave her vehicle. the two men in the passenger, move away, knowing the train is

approaching but the driver is trying to move her car. >> i walked away and i said i can't leave her. i said get out of this car. stie stepped one foot out, by the time she got the second foot out, the train came within three seconds and wiped the car out. >> it pushed it hundreds of yards down the track leaving it looking like this, a mangled mess. this is just the latest in a series of accidents in this very spot. two years ago, several fraternity members, rescued a 60-year-old woman. >> we stood there, and watched for ten seconds. >> reporter: 15 seconds after getting the woman out of her car , the train barrels in to it. this is the remains of her car. well after thursday's close call, csx is meeting with officials to discuss putting up a fence so drives don't mistakenly turn onto the tracks. it's happened a dozen times.

mike hellgren explains that investment is paying off in the form of jobs and a lot of them. >> a new class of cargo ships will arrive in baltimore, currently many container ships are limited to the size of the panama canal. when an new canal opens, ships with 1 and a half times capacity will set sail. norfolk has the ability for these to dock. the cranes in baltimore, too little. the water depth near the sea wall, too shallow. two years ago, ports of america brokered a deal with the state, it will pay for improvements in return for a 50 year lease. we have invested quarter of a billion dollars. with that kind of money at stake, they needed to get the big boats to come to sea guard. the big boats are on their way. >> we are very happy to have ow

impersonating a police officer in baltimore county. this isn't the first time he has been arrested. monique griego has more information. >> reporter: the first time he was arrested was all the way back in 1998. that is when police found weapons, police uniforms and drugs stashed in his basement. 59-year-old derrick isn't a cop but police say he likes to act like one. back in january, an officer pulled him over for speeding in this phony police car and says he was wearing a police uniform. >> the man gets out wearing a virginia state trooper uniform. the car is equipped lights and sirens. >> reporter: this isn't the first time he was caught with cop gear. this is video of him in 1998, after baltimore city police found an arsenal of weapons stashed in his basement along with knives, vests and a bag of marijuana. >> i knew when they raided it. i didn't know what they found. >> reporter: bill lives down

from the new home on garnet road in parkville. when county authorities raided this house, they found patches for baltimore city, county, maryland state and virginia state police along with police uniforms and equipment. one neighbor defended him saying they knew he liked to dress up like a cop but considered it a quirky habit and didn't think he was doing anything illegal. >> you don't go out in a costume, it doesn't make sense. >> reporter: police believe he may have been doing more than just playing dress up. >> if he indicated he is a police officer, we would like to know about. that we tried to speak with him earlier this afternoon, someone at the house declined to comment. >> thank you. he is on home detention without bond. police in arundel are investigating a robbery at the westfield annapolis mall. it happened in the red parking garage area.

police say a man and a woman were approached by 3 suspects, one of them pushed the man to the ground and took his laptop computer. police say the suspect fled in a stolen black bmw with washington dc plates. a man filling up at a gas station is forced to duck for cover during a dramatic shootout in california. vick is in the newsroom. >> police chased a suspect through hollywood , the suspect was surrounded at busy gas station when this happened. police fired multiple shots in to the vehicle, killing the suspect. a man was out of his car getting gas. he hid behind the vehicle as bullets came within feet of his head. he was able to crawl away and run to safety. police opened fire because the suspect was sporing a gun at people inside the convenience store. that suspect was wanted for stealing two vehicles during

the day. police lay out their case against a student accused of spying on his roommate with a web cam. the roommate killed himself. manuel gallegus reports for wjz from new jersey. ravi faces 15 charges including a hate crime related to the suicide of his gay college roommate, tyler clementi. the prosecutor told jurors vavry wanted to victimize him and rob him of his dignity when he used a web cam to spy on him. >> the acts were not a prank. they were not an accident. they were not a mistake. these acts were purposeful. they were intentional. they were planned. >> ravi sent a message to a high school friends telling him about the sexual encounter. he was the first witness and read the message in court.

two days later clementi asked ravi if he could have the room to himself. ravi invited friends to watch on his web cam, what he expected to be another sexual encounter. clementi knew what his roommate was up to and disabled the camera and jumped from the george washington bridge. prosecutors offered ravi a plea deal to avoid a trial and jail time. he rejected it insisting he didn't commit crimes. his parents as the defense stressed ravry vu's ravi was just 18 and just a boy. ravi's attorney said the image with the other man lasted a few seconds and only a few people saw it. if convicted ravi faces ten years in prison. >> the fbi subpoenas records in

connection with the sex abuse case against jerry sandusky, u.s. attorney is requesting information involving the former assistant football coach and other officials. sandusky is accused of molesting 15 boys. the university says it will co- op raivment he could stand trial in may. suspicious white powder causes chaos at the u.s. capital. police determined it was hamless. the latest incident comes after three u.s. senators received letters containing a powdery substance. home land security says the substance found was corn starch. they are working on tracking down where the letters originated. the gop candidates battling for michigan are trying to sell plans to voters. the economy isn't the only factor voters are concerned about. >> reporter: mitt romney says if he is elected president,

>> reporter: protesters torched this nato convoy post as demonstrations raged across afghanistan. it's been the most violent day so far as outrage spreads over the burning of korans at a american base. the muslim book. despite a written apology from president obama, the protests show no sign of easing. 20 have been killed. including two u.s. soldiers. the top u.s. commander in afghanistan, made a special trip to the operating base where an afghanistan soldier turned his gun on american troops. general john allen offered condolences and urged restraint. u.s. officials promised a full investigation in to the koran burning incident and say they are confident the fallout won't
