new hope, deadly tornadoes rip across towns in five states. tonight the survivors are coming together looking to the future starting to rebuild. good evening everyone thanks for joining us i'm adam may. we just got word of another fatality. so far those storms have claimed the lives of 38 people across five states. now residents in one of the most affected towns henryville indiana head to church. a place of worship that has

been turned into shelter. the very latest for wjz. >> reporter: sunday services at churches across henryville were emotional. churchgoers wiped away tears and hugged one another. >> what we're hering is people who have lost -- hearing is people who have lost everything are showing up to help their friends and family. i don't think there's hope lost, there's hope renewed. >> reporter: nurse mitchell drove five hours from chicago to help. she went door to door checking on residents like june who says in the midst of the devastation she feels blessed. >> look around you, there's a lot left. there's a lot left. >> reporter: sheriff deputy lovelin delivered bottled water. he helped people take shelter at a building, now gone. >> i tell people, the church is not the building, it's the

roller coaster of changes for the week. let's check with bernadette woods. >> first we're going to start with a check with the radar. we've seen a couple of storms and showers. and that's going to be the case for the next few hours. we're down into the 20s in the mountains and look at the change since yesterday. we're about 10 to 15 degrees colder across most of the state. and this is just the beginning of a search of cooler weather but like it's happened all weekend long, it's not going to last that long. >> all right bern, thank you. political problems in anne arundel county. a sex scandal facing leopold leaves state workers in a pretty tough spot. derek valcourt has the story. >> reporter: we've been talking to residents out here about

what they say is happening in their local government. they say they are paying attention and many are not impressed. embattled county executive leopold says is faced with charges. >> i'm very confident when all the relative facts are known that we will prevail. >> reporter: leopold's legal problems come among other problems. a council member was removed from office, he is headed to jail. >> i am who i am, i say what i think, i try to do it as carefully as i can, sometimes i clearly don't. >> reporter: these scandals and

past unproven allegations toward leopold. >> it's disappointing to say the least. >> theme people who run for politics should be more careful about what they do. >> do you have any faith in your county executives? >> not really. >> reporter: john leopold again insists he is innocent he faces five criminal charges, four of them misconduct in office. derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. >> quite a negative told among the voters there. leopold's next hearing is scheduled for march 26. police are investigating a deadly shooting in the 4500 of marble hall road. police say they found 42-year- old terrance joyner there shot several times. he later died at the hospital. police believe joyner had been involved in a fight outside a convenience store before he was

shot. so far no arrests have been made. an investigation after several people were stabbed. the five men who were hurt were all targeted. all of them are in the hospital recovering. anyone with information is asked to call harper county sheriff. trees in trouble, it appears that most areas are losing them and baltimore is no exception. trees are losing ground of pavement in many cities and baltimore is the worse offenders. a decline of tree cover is being reported at the rate of 4,000 square feet per year. >> last august we lost 1,300 trees. we also lose trees because of a lack of adequate after care of a free planting. >> reporter: one of the

check this out, two passenger trains collided killing 16 and injuring dozens more. the two trains were carried 250 passengers. at least 54 people were hurt

including one american woman. today crews began combing through the wreckage. as part of the investigation into the accident. police say a car pulled right up to the girl that is were selling a cookies at a wal-mart. a passenger got out, pretending he wanted cookies, took the cash box and jumped in the car. two of the girls ran after him, one of them was run over. but her injuries were minor. residents in the hawaiian were taken out by helicopter. as you can see pretty much incinerating everything in its path. the tor nato tor nay -- tornado is one of the most

welcome back everybody. we had one storm, after that it was just scattered rains and showers all in a day's work. earlier today southern maryland and the eastern shore that part of the storm has left us opening the door to the next storm coming from the southwest. a couple of snow showers have been coming down on those gusty northwest winds. these are sustained winds with gusts higher than that. and that will continue to bring in heavier air. we do have a lot of 40s out there but when you head north

and west of the city we are already down to the 20s in the mountains. compared to yesterday at this time, about a 10 to 15-degree swing over all. we were actually below average. that has not happened much this winter. 48 for our high that averages up to 50 degrees now. here is the air we're pulling from, the next couple of days are going to be below average before we have another warm upcoming our way. this is what we have going on. we have a storm right up here, a clipper storm. it's going to swing to our south tonight and tomorrow. scattered rains and showers are possible. then it all gets out of here on tuesday. by wednesday, we're already warming it up. here's that storm it gets out of here. sunshine returns on tuesday. still a chill in the air. but by wednesday those winds turn around to the southwest and here comes a new round of very warm air. so the forecast looks like
