now back to you. >> thank you very much. we are still waiting on results from ohio, alaska, and idaho. a baltimore police officer is suspended, accused of helping cover up the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old girl. her death was an accident, but that officer's involvement was not. we explain the officers alleged ties to the crime. >> reporter: this is what a .22 caliber long rifle looks like i.'s the kind of weapon that killed the 13-year-old saturday night. that rifle somehow ended up inside the car of an off-duty baltimore city police officer. we have learned that now-suspended officer was dating a relative of one of the juvenile suspects in the case. it's news outraging the victim's family and a city councilman. >> if this weapon is found inside of the police officer's

vehicle, it's stunning. it is amazing that this would happen. >> reporter: saturday night, she and two friends, 12 and 13-year-old boys were playing with a rifle inside a home when monai was accidentally shot in the chest. police say the boys then tried to hide her body. eyewitness news learned new details about what happened that night. after the shooting, the boys apparently dragged the victim's body from the living room, through the kitchen, out the back door, and here into the alley. her worried mother told wjz she repeatedly questioned the two young suspects. >> i couldn't get straight answers. we were sitting around and we decided we would go and scout out everywhere. >> reporter: they found her body in the alley. now her family and the councilman want to know why the gun that killed young monai ended up in a police officer's car. >> i feel so badly for the family. and to have this piled on top of that, i don't even know what to

say. it's too stunning to believe. >> reporter: police say they are working closely with the city state's attorney's office as their investigation continues. >> and william c. march middle school will host a vigil in her honor tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. a deadly crash shuts down a stretch of road. you can see the wreckage covering route 213 in centerville. a driver was trying to pass another car when he slammed head on into a truck. the car's driver died in the crash. the truck driver suffered minor injuries. a firefighter responding to another accident winds up in the hospital himself. michael murphy was helping a driver out of the suv after it rolled down an enbank. when a tree limb fell on murphy and hit him in the head. he did have his helmet on. he's out of shock trauma and he covering at home tonight. a wrong way crash kills

three teenagers and another driver on route 50. drunk driver was a factor. and now state police are holding the family of one of those teens responsible. wjz is live and we have new details in the case. >> reporter: the mother and older brother of one of those teens have been cited by police. they're accused of throwing a marty and serving alcohol to minors on the night of that crash. police say an alcohol-filled house party may be to blame for a deadly crash that killed three teens and another driver. >> there's a car going the wrong way on 97. >> reporter: 911 callers tried to stop the wreck. >> it appears to be multiple. >> reporter: police say 19-year-old brittany was under the influence when she drove her car the wrong way for miles down route 97, then route 50. she crashed head on into a bmw, killing herself and two

passengers. the driver of the bmw also died. now police say the teens were coming from a party here at franco's home. franco's mother and her brother joshua now cited for giving the teens alcohol. >> they deny they furnished anybody alcohol who was not of legal age. they look forward to their day this court. >> reporter: attorney david fisher is representing the family. he says these allegations are false and come at a very difficult time for this family. >> they have absolutely been devastated, the entire family. i mean, they've practically, every time i've spoken to them, they're practically in tears. >> reporter: if they are found guilty, they face a maximum $500 fine. now, they don't face any jail time. that is because they've only been cited civilly, not charged criminally. reporting live for wjz eyewitness news.

>> thank you. investigators say the driver of the bmw was also under the influence. harsh new punishment for the councilwoman caught driving more than 100 miles an hour on the capitol beltway. increased the fine to $500 and charged her with wreckless driving. the officer who stopped her for going 105 miles an hour last month let her go with a ticket for an improper lane change. the health department is investigating a mysterious illness that's killed three people in one family. it happened just north of solomons. the elderly woman came down with the flu and was cared for by her son and daughter and they both died. autopsies are being performed to identify the source of their illness. heading off an

infrastructure nightmare. baltimore launches an intensive inspection to make sure it does not happen again. wjz is live in lincoln park. >> reporter: it's no secret, the infrastructure is old. a new high-tech device will determine what kind of shape it's in. in 2009, a 72-inch water main exploded and flooded a large portion of baltimore county. the city says it's part of an aging infrastructure in critical need of repair. >> a lot of water, a lot of flooding. >> reporter: putting its infrastructure under the microscope. the city will use a pipe diver to inspect miles of pipe that make up the southwest transmission main. baltimore city, county, and howard counties. >> we find that 4-6% of the pipe sections are in need of repair. >> reporter: engineers say with

surgical precision, it can pinpoint problems and prevent cities from haphazardly digging up pipes. it will take them 5 hours to inspect 6 miles of pipeline. it's recorded on a hard drive and will later be analyzed. part of the problem was the use of piping. >> they were manufactured by a company that really didn't know how to manufacture pipe very well. >> reporter: by my watch, the pipe diver has been at it for about three hours. they should be finished around 1:00. it will take 6-8 weeks for engineers to analyze this data, compile it, figure out what it means, and present it to city leaders so they can determine what to do with it. >> the city says they may use the pipe diver to inspect other lines in the near future. well, the circus is coming to town and that has baltimore

his arraignment. police arrested two of the relatives and charged them with disorderly conduct and assault. the arraignment continued after the family was cleared from the courtroom. an amazing story of survival and a mother's love in the midst of last week's deadly tornadoes. henryville was among the hardest hit and that included the home of stephanie decker. she was inside with her two children trying to ride out the storm. they all survived, but stephanie lost parts of both legs protecting them. >> i was thinking, oh my. the house is getting ready to go and we're not going to be able to survive this. i was just trying to protect my kids, and i grabbed them and i wasn't letting go. if they were going to fly, i was going to fly with them. >> stephanie has vowed she will walk again. her two children escaped the storm without any major injuries. new fall out in the sex

painting her fingernails on the plane because of a smell. a verbal altercation followed. she spent 10 hours in jail before the judge dismissed her profane language charge. police became involved because there was a confrontation with a crew member. he may be the world's fastest human, but he is no match for the powers ers of prince. they posed for the cameras during an appearance in jamaica. the two then went head to head in a race, but the prince as you see was given a royal pass. prince harry is looking forward to watching him race for real at the london olympics this summer. probably wouldn't do to beat the prince, especially when you're headed to london. >> nobody beats him right now. >> no, no. >> that is definitely a photo op right there. weather wise, beautiful today but cool.

>> tonight, 37. >> it's going down into the 20s tonight, which is more typical for march. for those who think it's too cold, the warm weather is coming back. we were in the 40s for our high, below average slightly even with so much sunshine. 25 is where we started out the day. look at where we're dropping. 37 in baltimore, but it's already down to 32 cumberlan, 39 in ocean city. we'll show you most of the region really in the 30s. the winds have turned around to the south and that southerly wind will bring up much warmer air. we're jumping from the 40s of today to to 60s tomorrow. it is all of this air just down to our southwest that is moving in our direction. as far as some of those numbers go, got to take a look here. it's still 51 in minneapolis, 60 in chicago, and 63 in kansas city. we have a warm front passing by to the north. that's bringing in the warmer

air. all of this out to our west, that's the next one that will move our way. this is how it works out. tomorrow, sunshine, high pressure still in control. as we head into the next couple of days, that front gets a bit closer. we'll see the clouds come in during the day on thursday. it's thursday night into friday there's a chance for rain. with that rain coming through, it will knock down temperatures. by friday, we start to drop. but the thing is, it's nothing all that extreme. the forecast looks like this. on the waters, just a light wind out of the south early in the day. it will pick up through the afternoon and we could see small craft advisories be issued later in the day also. sunset now 6:05, 6:29 for sunrise. take a look at the forecast. down to 29. by tomorrow, we're up to 62. it will be a warm, gorgeous afternoon. and we go up from there on thursday. we're up into the upper 60s. the clouds will start to come in during the day on thursday. by thursday night into friday,
