to handle iran's nuclear ambitions. in washington this week, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu was urged by the obama administration to hold off on any military action. netanyahu said yesterday he has no plans to attack iran in the coming days or weeks. the former head of israel's intelligence service meir dagan thinks that's a good idea. he told "60 minutes" correspondent lesley stahl that military action before all diplomatic actions are exhausted would be foolhardy. >> you have said publicly that bombing iran now is the stupidist idea you've ever heard. that's a direct quote. >> an attack on iran before you exploring all other approaches is not the right way how to do it. >> the dispute seems to come down, though, to whether you are at the end of everything that you can try or whether you have a lot of time left to try other things, which seems to be your position.

considering all the implications of direction. >> and you can watch the rest of lesley stahl's interview with him on "60 minutes" this sunday at 7:00, 6:00 central right here on cbs. former u.n. chief kofi annan is scheduled to arrive in syria tomorrow. he's the special envoy to syria charged with ending the violence there. but an opposition leader today is rejecting calls for a dialog. government troops continue their month-long attack on the city of homs. a u.n. official who gained access to the opposition stronghold says parts of the city are destroyed. she wants to know what happened to thousands of residents. the republican candidates for president are looking for some southern comfort. the mississippi and alabama primaries are coming up tuesday and for newt gingrich, it may be a last stand. the south has not been kind to mitt romney who is still trying to win over conservative voters. tyler suiters is in washington with more.

>> good morning to you. days after campaigning hard in ohio, the republican frontrunners are now trying to sway southern voters. with that in mind, rick santorum is calling alabama the heart of conservatism and mitt romney says he's becoming an unofficial southerner. >> how are you doing? >> mitt romney tried to win over southern voters as he campaigned along mississippi's gulf coast. >> i'm learning to say y'all. i like grits. >> he didn't do well in the south four years ago and admits he has an uphill battle. he picked up a key endorsement from mississippi's governor and trying to tap into issues. impacting the local economy, blaming president obama for rising gas prices. >> this is in part his fault. this is a guy who slowed down as i'm sure you know the licensing and permitting of off shore rigs, of on-shore drilling. >> newt gingrich's campaign says the former speaker needs wins in alabama and mississippi to stay competitive.

gingrich remained optimistic while in tupelo, mississippi on thursday. >> when we win here and we win in alabama, we'll be back up again. >> the super pacs have called for newt gingrich to drop out of the race and is spending money on campaign ads in alabama and mississippi trying to give the former pennsylvania senator an edge for tuesday's primary. >> santorum told voters in alabama he is the conservative they should rally behind. >> first and second in alabama and mississippi on tuesday. i think that will be a big win for us and hopefully get this race down to two candidates. >> santorum heads to kansas today before the state's caucuses on saturday. ron paul will also be there as he continues to rely on caucus states to grow his delegate total. the candidate under the most pressure in the south right now, though, is newt gingrich. his campaign says he has to win alabama and mississippi to justify staying in this race. betty, the problem there is

polling in alabama right now shows gingrich trailing both rick santorum and mitt romney. >> all right. tyler suiters in washington. thank you, tyler. in this year's election, super pacs are playing a bigger role than ever. on super tuesday, the super pacs spent $3 million in ohio alone. supporting mitt romney. candidates are relying more and more on these mega fundraising operations. nancy cordes reports on the growing influence. >> santorum voted to raise the debt limit five times. in the weeks leading up to super tuesday, ohio voters alone endured nearly 8,000 ads about the presidential candidates. >> mitt created romney care. the blueprint for obama care. >> according to the media analysis group, three quarter of the ads were not aired by the candidates but by unaffiliated outside groups known as super pacs that didn't exist four years ago. in only a few months' time, they've changed politics.

stewart roy works for a super pac backing rick santorum. >> i think they've gotten more sophisticated in term of online, advocacy efforts, phones and mail. in their operating. much more like a full campaign would operate. >> but they operate with fewer rules. unlike campaigns, super pacs can raise unlimited funds from individual donors and corporations. the results of a 2010 supreme court decision. of the $27 million raised by the key super pacs in january, a full 70% of that money came from just five wealthy men. two for santorum, one for ron paul, another for gingrich and one donor who gave to several super pacs. stewart roy says his candidate, santorum might not have made it this far if not for million dollar donations from froster freese and energy executive william dorer. >> do you think it's fair that

basically a handful of millionaires can control the process like this? >> in this particular situation, ironically in the eyes of a lot of people you have candidates who are now competitive who would not have been. >> he says the money helps to get the message out to a wider audience. but in ohio, nearly 90% of all super pac ads were negative. it's debatable how informative that message is. nancy cordes, cbs news, pascagoula, mississippi. the house approved a bill making it easier for small companies to grow and theoretically create more job. the measure easily passed the house yesterday. it will allow them to solicit and advertise investors when going public. the senate is to consider a similar bill next week. officials are trying to figure out why a gunman opened fire in the lobby of a psychiatric clinic at the university of pittsburgh. the gunman killed one person and wounded six others yesterday. the mayor of pittsburgh says the man was armed with two handguns

and got into a shootout with campus police. the gunman was shot dead. apparently by campus police. >> their quick response saved lives today. there's no doubt about it. >> buildings in the area were locked for hours after the shooting. all of the wounded are expected to survive. a seventh person was hurt but apparently not from the gunfire. mississippi supreme court has upheld those controversial pardons issued by former governor haley barbour. you remember the dust-up during his final days in office where he pardoned 198 people, including four convicted killers who worked at the governor's mansion. most pardoned had served out their sentences years ago. coming up on the morning news, greece moves a step closer to avoiding a disastrous default. plus, a dramatic rescue is caught on camera. beach-goers drag dozens of dolphins back into the water. this is the "cbs morning news." dozens of dolphins back into the water. this is the "cbs morning news."

a dramatic dolphin rescue in brazil has become an internet sensation. look at this. it's gotten over 800,000 hits. you can see an entire pod washing up on shore. a bunch of beach-goers dragged the dolphins back out to sea. after all 30 are rescued, everyone cheered. good for them. on the cbs "moneywatch," a deal is in place to keep greece out of default and starbucks is getting into the home brewing game. interesting. jennifer lewis hall is in new york with more. good morning jennifer. >> good morning, betty. it does appear that greece's economy won't slide into default, at least not for now. the greek finance ministry says the bond swap was a success. the deal is aimed at lowering greece's debt by asking private bond holders to take massive losses on their investments. enough creditors signed up to make the deal work. if it had failed, greece would not receive funds from a second bailout and would likely go into default.

that news gave overseas markets a bump. japan's nikkei index rose 1.5% and the hang seng about 1%. on wall street, stocks were up for a second day in a row. the dow added 70 points and gained back two-thirds of what it lost on tuesday. the nasdaq added 34. the labor department releases the february unemployment and jobs growth figures. analysts expect the economy added about 200,000 job. but that unemployment will remain at 8.3%. states affected by the bp oil spill could receive billions of dollars to restore damaged areas. the senate approved a measure that would distribute money collected by water pollution fines. bp could be on the hook for as much as $21 billion. the money would go to texas, florida, louisiana, mississippi and alabama and would be used on projects to restore the economy and the environment. starbucks is trying to invade your kitchen.

get within one, but south florida coughs it up with a bad inbound pass and notre dame wins 57-53. >> a big east upset. louisville wearing the bright orange uniforms takes down second seed marquette. a driving lay-in put the cardinals up in the second. louisville over marquette. 84-71. they play notre dame tonight in a rematch of last year's semi final. top seated syracuse ended yukon's 13-game post-season winning streak. the orange ran down the huskies 58-55. they face cincinnati tonight. >> an upset in the pac-12 conference has president obama smiling. oregon state, coached by his brother-in-law robinson, made history beating washington 86-84. it is the first time a ninth seed has taken down a number one in pac-12 tournament history. when we return, the job

>> all right. ladies, here we go. >> but for now, he's serving pizza. >> lawyers do lawyer things. lawyers work at law firms. lawyers do public policy work. lawyers don't serve pizza. >> johnson graduated in the top 25% of his class and was confident he'd find a job, especially when he saw his law school reporting an employment rate of around 90% on its website. >> were you misled? >> yeah. i think so. i think the culture of law school is misleading. >> the politics of law is the following. >> university of colorado law professor paul campos has studied the legal job market and found that it's been shrinking. in part because of outsourcing and computer automation. he estimates of the 45,000 law graduates each year, almost 45% can't find jobs that require a law degree. >> many of the people who are going to law school right now are never going to be lawyers. >> campos says that almost all law schools report employment
