this is wjz tv, wjz hd, and wjz.com, baltimore. >> from the city to the counties to your neighborhood, now it's complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. stabbing in the suburbs. the search for suspects tonight. hello, everyone. here's what people are talking about tonight. new details are just in at this hour about a violent attack near owens mills. three people suffered stab wounds. we're live and we have more on the investigation that's now underway. >> reporter: it was a chaotic scene and tonight, baltimore county police are still sorting out details. it happened around 3:45 on spectator lane. baltimore county police say three or four people went to the house and got into a fight with the occupants. a brawl followed and three people were stabbed inside the

home. police say two of the people were residents, a 19-year-old male and a 25-year-old female. chopper 13 captured this video. >> one is being transported to the hospital. we have somebody going to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. >> reporter: police seized a car that they believe transported the 20-year-old stabbing victim. there were reports that shots were fired during the melee which police are investigating. >> we believe a shot was fired. we are still attempting to gather forensic evidence. >> reporter: late tuesday night, baltimore county police were still looking for suspects. thallous this crime left a lot of evidence and details to sort out. the fight and subsequent stabings was a surprise. >> early in the evening on a

weekday. it can happen anywhere, any time. >> reporter: updated information tonight, police tell us they did determine a bullet struck the white crown victoria which they're calling the suspect vehicle. they're trying to determine what role everyone played in this incident and they don't have a motive for why this happened in the first place. >> thank you. there were concerns the incident may have been gang related. police say now they have no evidence to support that theory. campaign 2012, mitt romney easily wins the illinois primary. he beats santorum by double digits. he'll be in maryland tomorrow afternoon ahead of our april 3rd primary. he'll hold a town hall meeting. a local hero murdered this afghanistan is honored in a solemn ceremony.

buried with full military honors. he was gunned down last month after violent protests over burning of the kuran. top cop is ordered to testify about executive john liepold's political corruption charges. we continue to investigate the unfolding scandal. we have the tough questions facing the police chief. >> reporter: the council has served the police chief with the first in what's expected to be a series of subpoenas to county leaders ordering they testify under oath about possible illegal and improper actions at the direction of their boss, county executive john liepold. >> he'll be talking under the penalty of perjury. he was served today and we can compel him to testify under our

laws. i suspect he'll be there voluntarily. >> reporter: ordering his police security detail to drive him to sexual lie yay sons. claiming he did nothing to stop liepold. council chairman told me this does not mean the chief did anything wrong. they want to know what he knew and when he knew it. also new, the aclu is demanding the state department of public safety conduct an audit of how police used its criminal justice information system database. ordered police use it to check criminal records of his political opponents. if asked, the department will cooperate fully with any investigation. the chief is expected to testify at a special meeting next monday. the county council cannot force

him to step down. >> county executive liepold denies doing anything wrong. bracing for big cuts. we're getting a first look at the mayor's budget plan. the mayor wants to close three fire companies permanently and plans to shut as many as eight rec centers. a $48 million shortfall. we'll have more details from the budget when she officially unveils it tomorrow morning. baltimore is overrun with out of control crowds. residents want to know why police stood by as people trashed the square on st. patrick's day. >> reporter: it was a misunderstanding that led to hundreds of people openly drinking on the square. they are promising it won't happen again. the crown jewel of canton

transforms into a garbage dump. >> it wasn't even necessarily the fun time that the folks were having. it's the mess they left behind. >> reporter: home video shows st. patrick's day chaos on the square. hundreds of people openly drinking beer. crushed glass and trash everywhere and policen't do anything. police admit there weren't enough officers to control the massive crowd. they had their hands full when a surge of teens caused a massive disturbance. residents want to make sure this doesn't happen again. >> the square is the front yard or the backyard as it were for most of us residents. >> reporter: workers and community members banded together to clean up the square. >> you really can't fault the businesses. they did clean up. >> reporter: they received letters from concerned neighbors

who were upset at this mess. >> we had a perform storm. the weather was phenomenal. st. patrick's day fell on a saturday day. >> reporter: the board is investigating how the annual celebration spiraled out of control. the community association will hold a public meeting next tuesday where residents can rare their complaints. >> baltimore police vow this won't happen again. they're reviewing patrol plans for next year. a powerful earthquake rocks mexico. crews are assessing the damage. it shakes the southwest part of the country near the popular tourist resort of acapulco. hundreds of homes are damaged. there are no reports of deaths or serious injuries. the pope chooses a new leader for catholics in maryland and the new archbishop comes

it's 60-degree, mostly clear. the complete forecast is coming up. an overnight tornado rips through texas taking down power lines. heavy winds overturned cars and ripped trees from the ground. several people were injured but are expected to be okay. crews are assessing the damage and working on repairs. fire sweeps through a marina in san diego. authorities estimate the damage will cost nearly $1.5 million. nine boats went up in flames, five of them were destroyed. officials are investigating, but they say the fire does not appear to be suspicious. it is a tragic end to a

bachelorette party in pennsylvania. the bride to be crashed into a river after leaving this bar outside of pittsburgh. the impact killed her sister who was her maid of honor. she admits she was drinking but claims another driver cut her off. >> i knew what i was doing. i wasn't drunk. i had people carry my sister to my car so i could take her home. i was fine. >> she says the wedding will go on. police are still awaiting toxicology results in this case. two new investigations under way in the death of a florida teenager. a former baltimore mayor is stepping in to help. >> reporter: the grand jury to investigate the death of trevon martin. he was shot by a neighborhood

watch volunteer. >> he had a 9-millimeter gun. he had a bag of skittles. where is the defense in that? >> reporter: when he called police before the shooting, a dispatcher told him to leave the teen alone. another neighbor called 911 to report screams possibly from the teen. >> you think he's yelling help? >> yes. >> what is your number in. >> there's gunshots. >> i was just shocked when i heard about the case. >> reporter: former mayor of baltimore and the current dean of howard law sent this letter offering assistance. >> i didn't think the family had the resources to hire some big law firm, so howard law school with its history of social justice seemed to be the right place to provide that support. >> reporter: almost a month since the incident, the department of justice and the

fbi planned to launch their own investigations. no official response to his offer, but he is expected to get one. he knows a member of the law firm representing the martin family. >> a grand jury will meet next month to consider evidence in the case. an exclusive church service is offered to sex offenders in wisconsin. it happens thursday nights nights at this church in madison. a probation officer asked if there were any services that didn't include children. is the new i-pad too hot to handle? apple sold 3 million new i-pads in four days. many customers are complaining the gadget overheats and gets uncomfortable to hold. tests show the i-pad can get hotter than the other models. if you have concerns, call apple

upper 50s and most 60s. it's a very, very mild night for this time of year. records were set for the warmest minimums in march just a couple of days ago, yesterday as well. 60 in baltimore, 61 in kent allen. 72 and 59. 55 is the average high. 35 the average low. the record's 85 and 12. it can get that cold, yes, in march, this time of march, first day of spring. can you imagine that? 12 degrees or 85, take your pick. light east wind and later tonight, the winds probably quit and we do expect to see fog in central and souther portions of eastern shore. a little snow in colorado where it was the 80s just two days ago. this front, shower activity and thunderstorms beginning to weaken. there's still pretty decent rain

in indiana and missouri. tomorrow looks like just pretty much warm day. sunshine and clouds, warm air continues to the end of the week. thursday and friday ahead of that front maybe 80, 81, 82 degrees. 84 in chicago today, by the way. a good chance we'll see showers, maybe some thunder, this weekend. we need the rain. southeast winds 5-10. the bay temperature at 53 degrees. so tonight, a few clouds out there with 55 for a low. that's our normal high. that's how crazy this weather is. 73, morning fog clearing out, upper 70s to 80 on thursday. normal high is 55 degrees. 81 friday. and then a little cooler saturday, maybe showers in the afternoon. 62, maybe upper 50s with a good

we have your fan sports report. a lot of teams doing window shopping right now. >> ravens fans are nervous. the ravens haven't brought in a lot of players. they're methodical. flaying catch up in the free agent game. they've lost four players, including a couple of starters in redding and johnson. today the ravens interviewed a candidate who could help their pass rush. it's defensive end mark anderson. he was in baltimore for a visit today.

a 7-year veteran coming off the best season of his career. he had 10-quarterback sacks for new england. he brought down joe flacco during the title game and he had a sack in the super bowl. anderson's next scheduled to interview with the buffalo bills. in denver today, the official welcome for the biggest free agent prize, peyton manning welcomed by team president and john elway, manning gets a five-year contract valued at $95 million. $20million of that is guaranteed for this coming season. manning was cut by the colts two weeks ago. the broncos will likely trade tebow now that manning has signed. pitcher zach britton will see dr. james andrews tomorrow. his status for opening day is in serious doubt.
