wjz, maryland's news station. >> deadly confrontation. a stand off in france ends with gunfire. >> how a terror suspect was killed. >> hello again, i am jessica kartalija. >> i am don scott. >> here is what people are talking about today, an islamic extremist accused of killing 7 people in france is now dead after a fierce battle. we have the latest. >> reporter: french commandos stood down after a deadly 32 hour stand off in toulouse, the siege ended with gunfire and explosion at the apartment of the suspected killer mohamed merah. he was hiding in the bathroom when police stormed his home. he had several guns and opened fire, officers shot back hitting him in the head as he threw himself out the window, police negotiators say in the hours before his death he admitted to killing a teacher and three students at a jewish

school this week and murdering three french soldiers earlier this month. detectives say he filmed the killings and was proud of them. he is seen in this amateur video and claimed to have links to al qaeda and called the killings pay backs. president sarkozy says an investigation is underway to see if he had any accomplices. he said he had traveled to afghanistan and pakistan for terrorist training. officers wanted to take him alive but the extremist promised he would die fighting. tina kraus, wjz, eyewitness news. >> several police officers were injured in the gunfight. >> we have breaking news from baltimore county to tell you about. several arrests have been made following a fight and stabbings in a townhouse community in owings mills, wjz and sky chopper 13 over the scene

tuesday afternoon, two people stabbed there. police now say five men are in custody, all charged with attempted first degree murder and assault. wjz will have much more today at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. a new development in the allegations the anne arundel county executive spied on political enemies, the police chief wants maryland state police to investigate whether his officers broke the law by accessing a criminal database on john leopold's behalf. wjz continues to investigate. mike hellgren is live with the latest. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. this is the letter and state police denied the chief's request, saying the state prosecutor is already working on a similar investigation. anne arundel county's police chief is asking state police to investigate whether his officers improperly used a criminal database. in a letter to state police the chief wrote that possibly violates state and federal laws.

leopold is under indictment for misconduct in office and missouri appropriating taxpayer money. the state prosecutor alleges he used the criminal database to keep files on his political enemies including carl snodwden. >> this is unprecedented and no county executive has ever done this. >> and joan conti. >> if these charges are true, john leopold is not fit to hold office. and he should resign immediately. >> chief tear's letter comes after a no confidence vote in him by two police unions, alleging he turned a blind eye to the county executive's mis- use of his police security detail and a subpoena from the county council who demanded tear testify before them under oath about what if anything he knew at a special meeting next monday. >> we have been under pressure to have a public accounting of this and i think over the last couple of weeks we have had a chance to deliberate and take

is still warmer than normal we are told, so same question as yesterday, will the sun put in app appearance later on? meteorologist tim williams over in the first warning weather center. good afternoon. >> good afternoon, don. all the dense fog advisories were lifted early except for baltimore city, baltimore county, hart fond and anne arundel county lifted as of six minutes ago. they were extended because the fog would not break, so right now all the advisories are lifted, the sun is going to have to do its work and still a foggy start to the afternoon. temperatures in the 60s, 63 is the temperature at bwi marshal, 65 on the shore, 68 oakland. the dew point still high at 59, so there is still a lot of moisture around. even with the fog we are still two degrees -- only a two degree difference between this time today and yesterday. a little bit cooler today than yesterday. we will see a bit of a shift in the winds bringing in unseasonably warm and drier air
