fiery crash, a police chase ends when a suspect's car explodes. >> two people are dead and investigation is underway. >> i'm don scott. >> i'm jessica kartalija. >> here is what people are talking about today. the crash killed two teenagers and left a police officer injured. mike hellgren is live with how it unfolded. good afternoon, mike. >> reporter: the chase lasted for a little more than two miles and the identities have not been released. this is what remains of a toyota that crashed in to a tree at the washington dc line after a police pursuit for several miles through maryland. it started just after 1:00 in the morning when police spotted the car with four people inside and noticed it was reported stolen. the officer fouled it down connecticut where the car crashed in to a tree.

the boys were trapped in the backseat. the driver and front passenger will survive. >> the driver, driver, i would describe as serious. he was in surgery earlier. the front seat passenger was injured but able to speak to us. >> reporter: one officer was hurt with burns and a shoulder injury but has been released from the hospital. police used fire ex-tipping extinguishers and broke the glass but the flames flared up and they had to back off. no word on any charges in the case. a masked man attack as student outside of a howard county high school. caught on camera, the man in blue wearing a ski masks runs up and grabs at a student. with one pun telephone football player knocks him out.

here in the city of sanford. the police chief and local prosecutor have both stepped aside, state and federal authorities are stepping in to investigate the case. >> reporter: cbs news learned detectives interviewed zimmerman for five hours the night of the shooting. a source close to the investigation says there was no arrest because zimmerman's bloody face seemed to support his chairman of self defense. president obama says it's imperative authorities investigate ever aspect of the case. >> we are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened. >> reporter: his parents will meet with federal authority in washington. >> i pledge my life to continue to push forward until we get justice for my son. >> reporter: investigators are looking at this case as a possible hate crime. daniel nothingham, wjz 13 eye witness news. >> the investigations could take weeks. federal authority have yet to talk to zimmerman and he has

stolen goods inside a prince georges county barbershop. detectives say more people are selling tide on the street and using the money to buy drugs. some stores have stopped selling the detergent because it's stolen so often. another option retailers are considering putting sensors on the detergent to protect merchandise. police say stolen detergent is hard to trace because the bottles don't carry serial numbers. more than a dozen pets are rescued from a home in bel air. animal control seized 17 cats and dogs, two animal were found dead. the humane society says this is not the first time its dealt with the homeowner. she was fined last summer. once they complete the investigation , the animals will be available for adoption. let's take a live look at the conditions outside this friday afternoon. a beautiful day out there so far. it is feeling like summer. some changes maybe on the way for the weekend. meteorologist tim williams is flying solo today in the

crews repairing to remove five more bodies from the wreckage of the costa concordia cruise liner, brings the number of confirmed deaths to 30. the cruise ship capsized in italy after hitting rock. two people are missing at this point. officials say it will take several days before the bodies can be removed. a filler comes from fatty leftover scraps and used to create a leaner ground beef.

north, northeasterly wind has been responsible for keeping moisture coming in across the bay for the last few days or so. we did dry out nicely today and now we are watching waer air along with the sun, settling in over the mid atlantic. two dynamics are going to bring us rain. see the spiral over oklahoma and pulling in moisture off of the gulf. another front, a back door cold front, slides in from the north and northeast, that's going to move in over the next 12 hours or so as well. kind of a squeeze play between the two. rain from both sides, with the moisture and the warmth coming in from the south, a chance of thunderstorms late tonight in to tomorrow afternoon before we see clearing on sunday afternoon, we will have scattered showers through the weekend, pretty much at any point. we need the rain but the timing is not going to be the most convenient with outdoor plans. northeast wind on the bay, 5-10 knots. no advisories in effect. 82 that's the record.
