killed a month ago today. the shooter, george zimmerman, claims he fired in self defense and remains free. sunday church services from florida to chicago turned into calls for justice. >> we can't do it by ourself, we need you god. >> reporter: in eatonville, florida, reverend jesse jackson implored the faithful to look at his killing as a new wake up call in a new battle for civil rights. martin's death and zimmerman's conditioned freedom has morphed from a criminal case to a national cause. trayvon's dad, tracey martin, thanked the miami heat for their support. friday star lebron james tweeted this picture of the basketball team wearing hoodies, a show of solidarity for the teenager. in dc hundreds rallied in the rain saturday. a day after president obama issued this highly personal

pratt streets another one here at 1:00 and people are rallies across this country today regarding the trayvon martin case. mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> we will have updates throughout the day on today's scheduled events as mike said on 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 news. >> police are searching for who killed a teenager in front of his home this weekend. roderick burton was shot saturday night and later died at shock trauma. police don't seem to have any idea us to a suspect or motive. an animal abuse case with national ramifications twin brothers accused of setting a pit bull on fire is ready to go to trial a second time. they are charged with beating a dog, soaking it with a flammable liquid and lighting it. it had to be put down. the first trial ended in a hung jury. >> while that case is unfolding

here the nation's highest court is hearing arguments on the healthcare overhaul. they will look at whether it is constitutional for the government to require all americans to buy health insurance. danielle nottingham reports for wjz. >> reporter: supporters of president obama's healthcare overhaul rallied up front of the supreme court. >> helped families and we need to check that to make sure it continues to help that. >> over the weekend members of the tea party rallied against the law. >> this is strong step toward socialism and i don't want that to happen in the united states. i believe in the constitution. >> reporter: the 9 justices are listening to three days of arguments over whether the healthcare law is constitutional. today's issue should the court postpone a decision because the law does not go into full effect until 2014. the court only holds about 400 people and just a handful of seats are open to the general public. some started lining up out here

on friday to get a chance to listen to the arguments. the biggest issue in the case is the law of individual mandate, which requires all americans to buy health insurance or face a fine. 26 states are opposed to the mandate. >> the question is how much the federal government can force states to comply with its will. >> reporter: tuesday the court will hear arguments on the mandate and whether congress can force americans to buy something. the justice is will likely take their time considering the issues. a decision is not expected until this summer, right in the middle of the presidential election campaign. in washington, danielle nottingham, wjz eyewitness news. >> some court observers believe the supreme court could decide the mandate is unconstitutional but allow the rest of the healthcare law to move forward. >> republican presidential hopeful rick santorum is doing a little explaining today after blowing up during an exchange

with a new york times reporter. >> quite distorting my words. if i see it, it is bull -- come on man. what are you doing? >> that came after the reporter questioned santorum about calling fellow candidate mitt romney the worse republican in the nation. santorum initially called the reporter a liar but it turns out the quote was lifted from a speech santorum gave just minutes before. >> pick any other republican in the country. he is the worst republican in the country to put up against barack obama. >> he clearly new the cameras were rolling here. the pressure is on him here and he is trying to point people toward healthcare and if he wants to use the media as a foil in this way that is absolutely up to him. >> santorum later clarified his comments, saying he was criticizing romney's ability to attack the president on healthcare and santorum said he felt the reporter was trying to
