cries for justice heard around the country and now at morgan state university. >> we are aware of the stereotypes happening and we're here to show that we see what's going on and we're aware of what's happening around us. >> reporter: students here say it only fuels more questions. surveillance video shows george zimmerman the night he shot trayvon martin. his lawyer claims he acted in self-defense. george's father told a florida tv station the teenager quote continued to beat george and at some point, george pulled his pistol and did what he did. but the martin family attorney says the video shows no evidence of injury to zimmerman. after police questioned him, they let him go. unmarked police vehicle. the child is being treated at the children's center and is expected to survive. the police department says its crash team is investigating the accident. a maryland high schooler drops dead in gym class leaving classmates shocked and devastated. the 17-year-old was jogging when she collapsed. we have more on her mysterious death. >> reporter: heartbroken classmates release pink balloons on the track in clinton in honor of the student who died here while jogging during gym class. her dad says she told a friend she was having chest pains moments before she collapsed. she danced with him the night before her death. >> you know, we were waltzing last night. i was teasing her, she was teasing me. >> she was a beautiful person. she was the nicest girl you could ever meet.

she was just so kind. >> reporter: loved ones say she was the picture of health, a vegetarian and an avid runner. >> we were just laughing about how her healthy diet was so much better than ours. >> it's going to be really hard. it's going to be really hard. >> reporter: as they gathered here to honor her, friends and family cried together and held each other for support searching for the why in this tragedy. >> she has such a wonderful spirit. we can't help but celebrate who she was. we never know what's going to happen, so we have to live our lives the best we can, treat each other with love and respect and dignity. that's what she did. hopefully with time we'll understand and move forward. >> reporter: classmates held a moment of silence for her. it was a moving ceremony here for a life who touched so many others. reporting in clinton maryland for wjz eyewitness news. >> pink was her favorite color

and many classmates wore that color this her honor today. a deadly wild fire rages on in colorado forcing people to leave their homes with little warning. >> daddy. >> we're going to make it. >> where's mom? >> what you're listening to is one family's rush to get ahead of the flames. search teams are trying to find a woman who is still missing. investigators think the wild fire may have started as a state-controlled burn. authorities do not know what caused this fire at andrews air force base. the flames consumed a townhouse, then spread to the homes on either side of that home. firefighters say no one was injured. an alarming jump in the cases of autism. the number of children with autism is the highest in recorded history. in tonight's health watch, maryland's rate is even higher than the national average.

>> i just knew it was something. mother instinct, i knew. >> reporter: her instincts were right. her 7-year-old son was diagnosed with autism at 14 months. doctors reported one in every 110 children had autism. today it is 1 in 88 and in maryland, one in 80. it could be greater awareness, better diagnosis, or inclusion of milder cases or it could be a real increase. whatever the reason, dr. rebecca landa sees it as a call to action. >> it says that we have a lot of children that we need to be taking seriously in terms of giving the best possible education, the best possible health care. >> reporter: it's five times more common in boys than girls. the doctor says do what marol did. watch your child, trust your

an improper lane change, but after critics accused police of preferential treatment, she was charged with wreckless driving. now she's taking that charge to court later this month. well, tonight megamillions mania comes over maryland. people across the state are scrambling to buy tickets for the largest jackpot in lottery history. we have the growing excitement for tomorrow night's drawing. >> reporter: tickets are selling as fast asthma sheens can print them and each buyer hopes he or she has the lucky one. at milford liquors, tickets are flying out of the lottery machines. did you buy a ticket? >> yes, i bought two. >> reporter: the megamillions jackpot hit a whopping $540 million. it's the biggest jackpot in the history of lottery gains worldwide. marylanders are hoping to strike it rich. >> we'd sold $3.3 million of

it is 50 degrees and clear in central maryland right now. the complete forecast is coming right up. tragedy narrowly diverted on a texas interstate and it's caught on camera. the car begins spinning out of control. it crosses the highway and just misses a motorcycle rider in the left lane. the video slowed down, you see the motorcycle getting by with just inches to spare. no one was hurt in the incident.

a potentially dangerous situation at the philadelphia international airport. trying to bring fire works on a plane. the tsa says commercial grade m-80s and a water bottle filled with flash powder were found in the backpack. he was trying to get on a flight to san francisco. the security check point was closed for an hour, but no flights were delayed. drama off the southern california coast. a whale is caught in a dangerous situation. the migrating gray whale became tangled in fishing nets and other debris. rescuers were finally able to cut the whale free. it looked to be about a year old and they're optimistic it will recover from the ordeal. a positive step in the courtroom saga of actress lindsay lohan. a judge ends her probation. she'll no longer have to appear in court or report to her probation officer. she had several missteps

following her drunken driving congestion in 2007. the judge gave her some words of advice after granting her, her freedom. >> live your life in a more mature way. stop the nightclubbing and focus on your work. okay? >> lohan no longer faces the immediate threat of jail, but she does remain on informal probation for taking a $2500 necklace without permission. mourning the loss of earl scruggs, the man who could play a banjo like no other. yes, that theme from the beverly hillbillies was one of his many hits. he passed away from natural causes at the age of 88. he helped popularize the banjo in all forms of music. he'll be remembered sunday night aired right here on wjz.

experts on eating disorders are watching a new phenomenon. we have more on the eye-opening survey. >> reporter: body and weight obsession may have a new venue. after working out at the gym, many people are breaking a sweat over how they look on facebook. >> on facebook, what they're doing is they're actively comparing their photos to the photos oh you have their friends. >> reporter: the associate director of the center for eating disorders says of the 600 people surveyed ages 16-40, 75% are unhappy with their bodies. 51% reported that seeing photos of themselves on facebook makes them more body conscious and 32% feel sad comparing facebook photos of themselves to their friend's photos. >> 44% of people feel they have to be camera ready.

when ever they go to go out in a public setting, they have to feel comfortable that if their picture ends up getting taken that it will be okay if it ends up on facebook. >> reporter: experts recommend testing yourself to see if facebook is creating a feeding frenzy over your body image. how much time do you spend comparing your body to others online? how often do you publicly criticize your own body? and do your comments focus on weight or appearance on other pipless photos? take a break from facebook if you can't escape feelings of jealousy and sadness. >> experts also recommend seeking professional help for any eating disorder. no brown bags found in this cafeteria. the fifth grade class turned it into a five-star restaurant. a local chef helped the students with the planning and cooking as they served their parents.

now, that's just for tonight and you can see right on that fringe with cold air off to our north, trying to come down from canada. at the same time, there are really warm air down to our southwest. 72 degrees in kansas city. the clouds come in during the day tomorrow, then rain tomorrow night. that's going to continue into saturday. now while that front is passing over, there's also a chance for a thunderstorm or two. notice when i put this in motion, how the low skids right on top of maryland and gets out. we never get in on that warm air with this particular front. 60 degrees tomorrow. saturday we may be in the 50s. there's a couple of showers before the warm up kicks in. the forecast looks like this on the water. small craft advisory in effect friday evening as the winds pick up again. tonight, 37 degrees. tomorrow we'll get up close to

jason hamill with a decent outing for the os. one of the pitches that didn't go his way, a deep fly over the fence, solo homerun. hamill gave up just two runs. two more hits for weeders. the os beat the yankees 4-3 in exhibition play. two games that count are now complete in japan where the oakland as and the seattle mariners opened the 2012 season. the star player from cuba signed with oakland last month and the slugging outfielder hit his first major league homerun. they beat the mariners 4-1. the teams come back home to resume the regular season schedule after splitting their two games in japan. college basketball, next season is expected to be a much better year in college park at mark turgin got his first season in

this 48-foot life-sized -- this is the size it was -- was created to promote a new documentary. the snake was once the world's largest predator feeding on super sized turtles and crocodiles. the boa exhibit opens tomorrow. the smithsonian is honoring buzz lightyear. moving beyond earth exhibit this summer. buzz flew on the shuttle discovery and spent 15 months at the international space station. his new information will be to help education children about space exploration. space exploration. you do know he's the little,,,,
