california college made it clear what he had in mind. hi told them get in line, i am going to kill you all. when he opened fire yesterday morning at least seven were kill and three others were killed. the suspect, a former student, surrendered at a nearby shopping center. police say they have no motive. good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, betty. and i can tell yu at this hour the 43-year-old one l.goh remains in jail. they say while they have their suspect, they still don't have a motive as to what led to the school shooting that ended seven lives. gunshots could be heard outside a christian college in oakland, california. witnesses say a former student pulled out a gun and started shooting people inside classrooms at oikos university monday morning. >> i heard a gunshot sound and

right after that, i heard one woman scream. >> reporter: heavily armored police rushed to the scene and surrounded the campus. lucas garcia was teaching a class when he started evacuating students. >> scary. we didn't know what was happening. that was the scary part. >> reporter: officers tried to rescue others and pulled victims out of stretchers. police say the suspect, 43-year-old one l.goh, turned himself in to police at a shopping mall shortly after the shooting. investigators are still here at the college collecting evidence. oakland's police chief say it could take days to piece together exactly what happened. >> very, very bloody scene with lots of evidence, so we're going to take our time and collect evidence and process this so that we can have a good solid case to present to the d.a.'s office. >> reporter: this is the deadliest school shoeing -- shooting in five years. >> it seems in the last decade we've gotten used to seeing senseless mass killings like this, and we'll have to question the availability of guns.

>> reporter: they cater to the area's korean community. the mayor says its members are in pain and will gather for a memorial tonight to honor the victims. and goh was taken into custody at a nearby supermarket after apparently telling the security guard he needed to talk to police because he shot people. and, betty, according to police, he also phoned his father to tell him about the shooting, and the police chief said his father then phoned the officials as well. >> so tragic. thank you. five people were injured when an experimental plane crashed into a florida supermarket. the twin engine plane had just taken off from an airport about 20 miles west of daytona beach when witnesses say it crashed into the supermarket roof. >> the airplane took off over tl top of us and just took off, and it started sputtering and the engine had flames coming out of it. we watched it turn like he was trying to turn around and then

he dropped straight out of the sky. >> there were two people onboard that plane. both suffered severe burns. three others in the supermarket were also injured. the crash is under investigation. this morning the united states government offered a $10 million award for the leader of the pakistani group blamed for the deadly attacks in mumbai india. he allegedly founded the group with the help of the pakistani government to apply pressure to arch enemy india. the shootings and bombings in mumbai lasted three days, killed 166 people and wounded hundreds of others. mitt romney is hoping today is the day he is able to pull away in the race for the republican presidential nomination. voters in wisconsin, maryland, and washington, d.c., take part in today's primaries. mitt romney and rick santorum have been fighting hardest for votes in wisconsin where 42 delegates are at stake, and after today's contest, romney

could have more than half the delegates needed for your the nominations. we have more on this. good morning, dorte. >> reporter: it would help mitt romney sew up his party's nomination but he's still fending off attacks even from the white house, and last night he answered some tough questions about his mormon faith. at a rally in wisconsin last night a ron paul supporter asked mitt romney if you agree with mormon scriptures that call it sinful for interracial couples to have children. he later recounted his experiences as pastor in a church. >> and i asserted that role for about ten years and gave me the occasion to work with people on a very personal basis that were dealing with unemployment, with marital difficulties, with health difficulties, or with their kids. >> reporter: also romney is leading rick santorum. santorum hammered away at

romney's credentials, but urged supporters whoever becomes the nominees. >> moderate massachusetts governor is not going to make that strong contrast. he'll pull out the etch a sketch and we'll be stuck again with someone who's, yes, better, will support. >> reporter: meanwhile the white house seems to think mitt romney will eventually emerge as the republican standard bearer. for the first time the obama campaign criticizes romney by name. >> he's raising standards and doubling energy. in all the fights romney stood with big oil. >> reporter: a new poll shows the president leading in swing states due in large part to insurgent support by women voters. mitt romney is now trying to get a foothold among women voters. yesterday in wisconsin he said the economic hardships faced by women can be traced back to

president obama, betty. >> all right. thank you for that report. one of the key issues in this year's election will be president obama's health care reform act. the supreme court is currently considering the case. it's unusual for a president to comment on a case before the court, but yesterday at the white house, mr. obama said he was confident the law would be upheld. >> ultimately i'm confident that the supreme court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected congress. >> a decision is expected in june. meanwhile the supreme court ruled yesterday that people arrested even for minor offenses can be strip searched in jail. the case involved a new jersey man who was strip searched two times after being arrested for a fine he actually had paid.

the syrian government has agreed to an april 10th cease-fire with forces opposed to bashir al assad. syrian troops continued to battle rebel forces yesterday. the u.n. estimates more than 9,000 people have been killed. u.n. official kofi annan says this is the first time they have accepted a deadline to stop the fighting. coming up on the morning news, cliff dive. trucks tumble off the cliff of a snowy road in norway. we'll show you what happened to the drivers. plus, the celebration of the university of kentucky's basketball championship gets a little out of hand. first, though, scott pelley ha a preview of tonight's "cbs evening news." >> last year he took on his state's public employee unions. now he could become just the third governor in u.s. history to be recalled from office. we will talk to wisconsin's scott walker tonight on the "cbs evening news." s evening news." d chantix worked . it's a medication i could take and still smoke,

yikes. this is not how it's taught in truck driver school. a tow truck as you saw there pulling a big rig on an icy mountain in norway. the driver of the truck actually escaped in time as the 18-wheeler slipped sideways over the cliff, taking the tow truck with it. he does jump out, but the driver of the other vehicle was not able to get out. he was hospitalized with several broken bones. in wisconsin an 80-year-old woman with no pilot training managed an emergency landing in a light plane. the twin engine cessna came to a stop nose down at the rural airport. the woman's 81-year-old husband had been at the controls but he lost consciousness and later died. the woman took over and was coached down by another pilot. on the "cbs moneywatch," the pink slime backlash puts a meat

company in the red, and an art collector finds 15 minutes of fame at a garage sale. ashley morrison is here in new york with all of that. a mixed day for overseas stocks. tokyo's nikkei lost half a percent while hong kong's hang seng rose more than 1%. a positive report on u.s. manufacturing sent stocks higher on wall street. the dow picked up 52 points while the nasdaq gained 28. the federal government is suing one of the biggest banks in canada. the commodity futures trading commission is accusing the royal bank of canada of completing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of sham futures trades. they allege the bank received tax benefits because of those trades. a pennsylvania meat company is blaming its bankruptcy on the negative coverage of so-called pink slime. they filed for chapter 11 on monday. they say media coverage of the meat additive has led to changes in the market. it's made with meat trimmings

and treated with ammonia before adding to the ground beef. yesterday the governor called for an investigation into what he called a smear campaign against the additive. we still don't know who won friday's mega millions jackpot, but students have benefitted from it. they have sold a record amount of tickets over the last nine weeks and that has pumped more than $31 million into a fund devoted to illinois public schools. and it may not be a winning mega millions ticket, but a british man picked up something pretty valuable at a garage sale. he paid $5 for a sketch drawn by andy warhol. the picture is believed to have been drawn when warhol was just 10 or 11 years old. it could be worth more than $2 million. and that's what i call making a profit. >> absolutely. nice return. all right. ashley morrison here in new york. thank you. straight ahead, your tuesday morning weather. and in sports, a special "k" night in new orleans.

some severe will continue in the southern and central plains. the southeast will see scattered thunderstorms this afternoon. a cold front will bring showers to the midwest. all right. now to sports and the battle of new orleans, kansas and kentucky for the ncaa basketball championship. the wildcats dominated early, leading by 18 in the first half. kentucky's doron lamb was the game's top scorer with 22. freshman phenom anthony davis had just six points, but provided 16 rebounds, six blocks, five assists, and three steals. the jayhawks got to the big game with a series of comeback wins, and in the second half it looked like they might just do it again, surging within five points. but the cats sank five free throws to win it 67-59. kentucky coach john calipari said the players did all he asked of them. >> i wanted this to be one for the ages, go out and show
