of forney, south of dallas, where many people lost everything between twisters tore through there. susan mcginness has the latest for wjz. >> reporter: home after home in lancaster, texas, is ripped to shreds. one tornado picked up a pair of cars and slammed them into the living room of a house. more than 500 homes are damaged or destroyed in the dallas/ft. worth area, despite all the destruction there are only a handful of injuries and no deaths. >> amazing that we are still living. undescribable. undescribable. >> reporter: the national weather service estimates as many as a dozen twisters touched down in north texas. >> that roar of a tornado that i will never forget that. >> the house, the house is gone. >> reporter: this was one of the tornadoes in hard hit forney. >> holy moley, holy moley.

>> the fact that everybody that woke up in forney yesterday morning is still alive today in fore, that is a real blessing, zero fatalities. >> twisters cut paths of destruction that are often cruel and indiscriminate. this home was often destroyed while others suffered far less damage. >> that is a piece of one. >> she is walking the streets collecting photos scattered everywhere. >> i am gathering the memories of the people that may not be able to find them. >> many are not allowed to return home because of safety issues but crews are starting to clean up, a process that could take weeks. >> the national weather service says april is typical the worst month for tornadoes and yesterday's suggest this storm system will be baf average. >> more now on a story we brought you as breaking news this time yesterday. bomb threats made geapt kent

county schools, all of them, classes resumed following a search of the buildings, yesterday a schoolworker spotted a happened written note on a door. it said there was a bomb inside that building and all other county schools. more than 2500 students were sent home. but no explosive devices were found. >> a key witness in the retrial of two brothers accused of setting a pit bull on fire is now heading to jail herself. the witness in the case against travers and trumaine johnson refused to testify at the trial. a judge sentenced her to six months in jail for conduct of court. the woman testified in the first trial against the brothers, that trial ended with a hung jury. the dog was euthanized because of fatal burns. >> mitt romney has widened his lead and is trying to convince the gop he is the nominee but his opponents do not appear ready to leave the race just get. we have this report. >> reporter: mitt romney is

[ taps playing ] >> a vigil was held for ryan bailey and timothy coyer. bailey was killed saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident, coyer was found dead inside his apartment saturday afternoon. it is still unclear how he died. campus officials are advising students to turn to each other for support. >> any student death is a tragedy, but to have two

a, but having said that we do have to look at the fact that it is very very dry. look, we had a big brush fire yesterday, it is tinderbox dry and we showed the advisories. unless we get rain in here and frankly there is none in the 5 day we will start to see those migrate into our area. this rain you are looking at is moving on down to the south and east. i don't think we have any rain in the metro but it am not going to say that is a guarantee. we will see shower activity here in montgomery county, some skirting solomon's island, through the afternoon -- let's take a look at the currents, i don't think there is a huge rain threat in the area. 72 degrees right now. it is only 12 above normal normal daytime high. 40% humidity west-northwest wind at 16, barometer at 29.69. temperatures around here, 57

in today's wjz health watch eating certain vegetables would imriewfl survival rates for breast cancer patients. a study presented to the american association for cancer research followed thousands of women in china. it found better survival rates among women whoate those vegetables that include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and brussel sprouts, they say those foods have compounds good for fighting cancer. >> you want to be sure to check back in with wjz's eyewitness news for updates on the tornado's destruction and we are following that mega millions mystery. we will bring you ,,,,,,,,,,,,
