flights are canceled for the second day in a row. many passengers were stranded overnight. >> there's probably hundreds of people just laying on the floor. >> reporter: many say that's a minor i believe convenience compared to all those who are now homeless. >> officials say the early warning system at the dallas fort worth international airport enabled people to get to safety, saving lives. >> a developing story just into the eyewitness news room, two hate crimes are under investigation. one vandalized an elevator with antisemetic messages. a staff member also found a noose hanging in a building. it's unclear if they are connected. the university's president sent an e-mail promising to punish anyone involved. new charges filed against student threatening to kill

students on campus. >> reporter: after weeks of psychiatric care, alexander song is released from the hospital and arrested. the is the-year-old is accused of making anonymous threats online about a shooting rampage. he now faces additional charges, including misuse of e- mail and disturbing the peace. he is barred indefinitely from going near the campus. >> song's trial is set for next tuesday. >> the maryland woman who claims she's the winner of the the mega millions jackpot does not want more attention. but does she have the ticket? mike is at the mcdonald's where she works. >> reporter: we don't know if she has the ticket. there's a new report she hid the ticket somewhere in this mcdonald's. her press conference seemed to raise more questions. the woman who claims she's

maryland's mega millions winner called a press conference. she wouldn't talk and her lawyer said he doesn't know. >> i have not seen the ticket. >> reporter: the day before mirlande wilson told me the whole family was overjoyed about the prize. you told your kids, are they excited? >> they're excited. it's a different life. >> i think she wants to raise her children, love them and go on about her business. somebody else started this ball down the hill. >> reporter: now a new rumor is swirling that a man from glen bernie is a big winner. his mom bragged about it. lottery officials say it's time for a reality check. pointing out no one has come forward. >> a lot of strange claims were being made. there was no shortage of photo shop lottery tickets on facebook and twitter. >> reporter: whether wilson is the winner or not she now wishes she never told anyone

two u.s. troops are among those killed in afghanistan. the attackerrest blew up a crowded market this morning. >> reporter: a senior u.s. official says two american soldiers are among the victims of a suicide bombing in northern afghanistan. police say the bomber rode a motorbike into a crowded market, killing at least 10 people. u.s. troops were reportedly having tea with the police commander minutes before the attack. the assaults on foreign troops are on the rise. nato says it's inclear who is blind them. anger has been building after a u.s. soldier allegedly killed 17 civilians and other u.s.

troops mistakenly burned quo rans. >> there were signs and symptoms that could have been seen. >> reporter: two days ago a twin blast shook a street market in northern afghanistan. u.s. led nato force are training the military and police hoping they'll be ready to take over security in 2014. >> so far this year 97 nato service members have been killed in afghanistan including at least 54 americans. today the first round of marines arrived in australia. they're part of a larger deployment of 2500 troops. >> if you're waiting for somebody to get home from work let's check in on our roads right now. here's christie live at traffic control. >> reporter: hi, everyone. things have taken a turn for

175 copy of the first printing of the king james bible. maryland just happens to have one. alex reports it is a rare find of a very rare book. >> reporter: glenn johnston is the air rive at the university to care for this 400-year-old book. it is the first printing of the king james bible. experts know because of a typo in the book of ruth. >> that makes it the real thing. >> reporter: william shakespeare was writing plays when was bible was commissioned. >> got rid of the word tyrant. brought in a team of some of the best writers at the time. they collectively wrote this document. >> reporter: how and when it got to maryland is a mystery. though extremely rare it isn't

pristine. >> what makes it valuable to me is i can see what pages were used. i can see the repairs. and all that tells me about how the document was used and the importance of the bible as a living document. >> reporter: biblical passages can be traced back to the king james version. so can some everyday saying. >> eat, drink and be merry. those are have been in the english language only since this bible. >> reporter: those writers laid the foundation for future bibles as english. >> the maryland bible society is over 200 years old. the king james version may have entered the collection unrecognized. >> that's pretty amazing. >> i love it. within the bible. it says we can do that now.

looking out from sky chopper 13. we got the preseason lineup earlier. we were talking about, i think it was august 9th. >> new uniforms coming out. >> a lot of excitement. then you see camden yards. we're still looking pretty nice for friday. we'll have that forecast in a moment. first up this is what we had, a cold front making its way across the state. a couple of showers across the south. just off to our south in virginia there is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect. those are moving away. for us we're sitting nice.

it's 75 degrees right now. it is warm across the entire region. 73 in annapolis. we have that wind coming out of the northwest. usually that cools us down. we've warmed up today. 75 is where we sit right now. started off at 46. notice the average is climbing. we are so far above it. tonight we will start to cool it down. just to the 40s. out west there is a freeze warning in effect. over the next couple of days we'll cool down. the thing is we're still going to be close to that average of 61. it's the overnight lows we're a little concerned with. that one plays into the next couple of days around here. a lot of people concerned with what's going to happen on friday because of the home opener. the way this storm track is setting up is it's going to force it down to our south.

for divorce in maryland but a judge says they're not even married here. now they're headed to the state's highest court. more on this complicated case. >> reporter: this couple meets all the criteria required to get a divorce in maryland, only both filers are women. that's why they say they're being discriminated against. 29-year-old jessica port got married four years ago. >> we were very much in love. we realized we wanted different things. >> reporter: when port filed for divorce a judge denied her. port is married to a woman. she and her exexchanged vows in california. the judge said they could not be divorced because he does not consider them to be married and said to recognize the alleged marriage would be contrary to the public policy of maryland. at least four other same sex couples have been granted a divorce in maryland.

the judge in port's case did not elaborate about why her divorce would violate public policy. >> once the general assembly has spoken i believe they've made it clear this state favors recognition of these marriages. >> reporter: attorneys for port's ex say the state is on their side. last month governor martin o'mally signed the marriage equality act. lawyer wills try to overturn the denial pointing to dozens of cases where maryland recognized marriages from other states that do not legally form here, like common law unions. for port it's not only a legal matter. >> i have every right to get a divorce in a timely manner like every couple. >> reporter: i asked port why she doesn't go back to california to file for a divorce. she says it's not that easy. because you have to file where

you're a resident and as you just heard her entire life is now here in maryland. >> thank you. it will likely take several months before the court makes a rule being. >> we're getting a look at a man accused of spying on women. investigators say he used to cell phone to take pictures of women in the bathroom. he was arrested after workers recognized him going into the bathroom. >> breaking news where a short time ago the accused gunman in the oikos university shooting makes his first court appearance. >> reporter: the 43-year-old nursing student is officially charged with 7 counts of murder. goh is accused of shooting 6 students and a receptionist this like at oikos university. police confirmed the nursing program director was the intended target. she was out of the building

when goh arrived. he dropped out of her program and she was not able to give him a full refund. goh eventually surrendered. >> we will also likely face a special circumstance allegation of committing multiple murders. a protest at a college comes to an end after dozens get pepper sprayed. five people were evaluated by paramedics at the scene. their conditions not known but injuries are not believed to be serious. investigators say protesters were pepper spraid after getting into a minor altercation with campus police during a board of trustees meeting. >> mitt romney is more than halfway to looking up the -- locking up the republican nomination for president. his rivals are still in the

race. >> reporter: mitt romney took the stage at an annual meeting of newspaper editors and went on the attack against president obama. >> i'm offering a clear choice and a different path. unlike the president, i have record that i'm proud to run on. >> reporter: romney ice visit came after he swept three primaries tuesday, winning in wisconsin, maryland and dc. the former governor's supporters on calling on rick santorum and newt gingrich to drop out of the race. romney isn't mentioning them by name. >> i hope we're able to resolve the nomination process as soon as possible. i'd like to focus our time and attention on those key state. >> reporter: romney now has more than half the delegates he'll need to become the nominee, but his chief rival isn't backing down. >> we're going to be all throughout the state.

>> reporter: talking to reporters in his home state of pennsylvania, santorum sounded upbeat. >> we're confident that there's a lot of strength and support here in pennsylvania. >> reporter: the latest polling from that state show santorum with a 6-point lead. he and romney are expected to spend the next 3 weeks battling it out there. >> last place behind about, romney and ron paul. we'll bring you the latest on air and online. >> a harrowing morning for passengers on a united airlines flight after turbulence causes injuries. the plane landed safely at its destination in houston. it was met by several ambulances. crews say all the injuries are minor. the flight took off from tampa. it hit severe turbulence over

louisiana. >> we're learning more about the 80-year-old woman who took over as pilot after her husband lost consciousness midair. >> reporter: helen and john collins were married for 58 years. they often didn't drive, they flew in a twin engine cessna like this one. john was an experienced pilot. averaging 250 flight hours each summer. but late monday an while flying to see one of their sons something went wrong. helen realized john had lost consciousness. with little experience of her own and none with this particular plane the 80-year- old woman took overt controls. captain shullen burger shows something about dangerous flights. >> she obviously had paid attention when her husband was flying the airplane. >> reporter: helen collins called 911 and police dispatchers alerted the faa.

>> they said a lady up in her airplane purpose her husband was a pilot. she thinks he's not able to fly the plane now. >> reporter: helen was circling over northeastern wisconsin when alibied pilot flew to her rescue. >> as i was coaching her through the con figure ration change, putting the flaps down, gear down and adjusting the power, i was doing the same in my aircraft. >> by flying in formation and keeping ohio airplane near hers he'd be able to judge her speed and altitude by watching his instruments without having her have to tell him what hers was. that was a critical point in this. >> reporter: after a bumpy emergency landing helen survived. her husband never regained consciousness. >> a long time flight attendant for delta airlines has her emergency skills put to the test. susan had to help deliver a baby during a flight from

crane collapse. mta crews were working when a crane arm snapped in half. the broken pieces fell more than 20 feet to the ground. the mta suspended all work until further notice. the university of pittsburgh is offering a $50,000 reward to anybody with information about a recent string of bomb threats on campus. two threats prompted evacuations monday. three more were reported tuesday. that makes 12 since february. the first threats were left in bathroom stalls. >> today marks a somber day in our nation's history. it was 44 years ago today that reverend dr. martin luther king jr. was assassinated. the civil rights leader was gunned down on the balcony of a motel in tennessee in 1968. the memorial is set to get under way at 6:30 this evening.

>> the fda is looking into an outbreak of salmonella that may be linked to sushi. it's been reported in 19 states. 8 people here have become sick. the centers for disease control say spicey tuna roll sushi is highly suspect in the outbreak. more than 80 nationwide are also sick. investigators are focusing on six clusters of restaurants in hopes of finding the cause. , in tonight's health watch, making strides with autism. autistic children typically have difficulty interacting with others. one school is using tech nothing to help kids express themselves. >> reporter: 10-year-old evan is having one of the first conversations he's ever had
