minutes ago. the mega millions winner has just been confirmed. >> reporter: the winning ticketholders has come forward. the record setting $666 million jackpot caused a nationwide sensation and got bigger when we learned one of three winning tickets was sold at a 7/11 in baltimore county. each of those winning tickets is worth $218 million before taxes. it wasn't me, adam. >> anxious to find out who it is though. jessica, thanks so much. wjz will be at tomorrow's news conference and we will bring you live coverage. well the other big story tonight, brush fires breaking out. a fire warning is in effect right now. wjz is live with the latest, bernadette woods will show us the warnings. but first mike hellgren has more on the dry conditions fueling the fire.

>> reporter: so much of maryland is so vulnerable right now. there were two fires that broke out today one in carrol county the other in anne arundel county. the risk for more remains high. dry, windy conditions are the perfect recipe for disaster with brush hours breaking out around maryland. >> the fuels are dry, the forest floor is dry, the leaves are dry. with the low temperatures and low relative humidity, as soon as the temperatures come up you're up to the races with how fast the fire will spread. >> reporter: sky chopper 13 shows you firefighters working to put out the fire. flames crept dangerously close to home. >> since friday we responded to six forest fires in the country. >> i'm back in the woods behind glen burney park elementary. this is where the largest brush fire has been so far. it burned more than 5 acres

here on saturday. you can hear the dry underbrush crackle under your feet. fire crews are at the ready. these are the locations of the three largest fire that is have ignited in the area in the past three days. the most serious was in harper county which temporarily forced people from their homes. >> they had everybody evacuate. you can smell it all the way up to, where's that one? darlington. >> reporter: most of the fire are caused by people and the danger will continue until we get a soaking rain. and it's not just maryland, in new jersey, more than 140 acres have burned since friday. they have employees in their cars ready to go to whatever the next -- wherever the next fire is, adam back to you. >> people definitely need to be careful. our weather coverage continues

the case. the dream defenders say they have a list of demands and the arrest of george zimmerman is just the beginning. >> we think that trayvon martin is the catalyst for a much bigger change in america. a much bigger movement, a much bigger revolution. >> reporter: the group is calling for a congressional hearing into racial profiling. >> we hope to systematically continue to face the issues that america sweeps under the rug because they're difficult conversations to have. >> reporter: the group says that their protest will not end until they get justice for trayvon martin. >> in florida, only first degree murder cases require review by a grand jury. this is at the inner loop between liberty road and interstate 70.

right after the crash, the truck began to leak asphalt. time for lawmakers to strike a deal. the hang up how it will be funded, in particular what new taxes you will pay for. live in annapolis, pat warren breaks down the numbers. >> reporter: there has been some small progress on the budget, but the big deal. the income tax and how much you will pay for those additional increases are still up in the air. count down to a melt down. >> the clock is ticking and it's going to be very, very difficult at this point to get any budget passed before midnight. the general assembly is hours away from its scheduled dismissal and knee deep in disagreement over an incomes tax plan.

barnes. the bill is named in in memory of felicia who went missing and later turned up dead in a river. police believe eric castranova crashed his suv five times in annapolis saturday. the first accident happened in hilltop lane. within minutes they received four more calls reporting accidents involving the same vehicle. castranova is facing several charges including dui. twin brothers in baltimore stand accused of setting a dog on fire. today after some unexpected set backs for the prosecution, the lead detective in the case tries to convince a jury that he arrested the right suspects. the story of phoenix a dog burned alive in the streets of baltimore outraged people across the country. >> her tongue, her eyes, her

pads are scorched. unbelievable. >> reporter: despite all the efforts, phoenix did not survive. soon after, twins were arrested. the first trial ended with a deadlocked jury. the star witness was found in contempt of court of refusing to testify. key evidence is surveillance video showing two young men in the scene. but the lead detective could not properly identify them as a suspect. a handful of people were spotted on that surveillance video. defense attorneys asked the lead detective if he could identify those other people and he said no. the testimony actually has some jurors falling asleep. advocates for animal rights are

stand and it is early. the yankees on the other hand have not yet won, they are 0-3. but baseball players will tell you that their season is a marathon as opposed to a sprint. using that marathon anology, the orioles are yet to go one mile in what is a 26-mile journey. that said, the steps they've taken have gone well. >> they sweep the twins and start the season 3-0. >> reporter: three wins to start the season make for a feel good beginning for the birds. they rolled out the orange carpet to introduce a new bill and rolled over the minnesota twins in three convincing wins. nice to get a jump start on a long season. >> we're definitely excited to get off to a great start. we want to get the ball rolling early but we know it's just three games. hopefully some of the nerves are settled down now and the guys can go out there and

a polluted inner harbor is becoming cleaner, safer thanks to teams of volunteers. wjz is live and jessica kartalija explains what's being done to draw tourists and fish and crab. >> reporter: that's right, the city is teaming up with classrooms to make the water even cleaner. gail brewer has lived in sails point his entire life. he remembers when the water in the harbor was clean. >> yeah we had a lot of

oysters. other crabs and stuff. you don't see no big nice chesapeake blue crabs, you see smaller ones but not big one. >> reporter: now a renewed effort to change that. >> over the last couple of days working with kids from living class man's foundation we've been building the bases for the floating wetlands. >> reporter: two years ago, a nonprofit group of inner harbor business put wetland floats made with recycled plastic into the water near baltimore's world trade center. >> these wetlands provide a refuge for lots of fish and other animals in the harbor. >> reporter: now they're continuing their efforts and adding 50 more. the wetlands are not only for the fish and wildlife they're also for people too. waterfront partnership tells me, they would like to see us take a swim in the inner harbor by 2020. some aren't so sure. >> there's a lot of chemical

polluting it for years so it's pretty tough. >> reporter: what if they said in a couple of years you would be able to take a dip. >> i would be skeptical. >> reporter: but watership partnership is determined. they say it's a program that's working. >> creating lots of ways to make cleaner neighborhoods. >> reporter: as for those who know this area best. >> i think it's a good idea, we need our wetlands. >> reporter: the original floats suffered severe damage during hurricane irene. these new floats will go in their place. i'm jessica kartalija, wjz. >> the floating wetlands will be placed into the inner harbor april 20th. >> domino sugar received their biggest shipment ever and

andrea fujii was there. >> there is the largest vessel east of the mississippi for raw sugar of any refinery. >> reporter: it took the 600- foot long vessel 2-1/2 weeks to travel from guatemala. >> our main problem was if she was fit with the water. how much water we had here. >> reporter: it'll take 16 days for all the sugar to be unloaded. domino sugar produces 6-1/2 million pounds a day, shipped throughout the world. this is 99% pure sugar. the refining project takes out 1% of its impurity. the iconic company will celebrate 100 years next week. and this record shipment shows that domino sugars will be around for another 90 years. >> getting something like this in is a sure sign that the industry is strong, and that manufacturing for us, specifically in baltimore is

welcome back everybody. we're going to start with first warning radar because we have some rain moving into the area now. it's kicking up the wind even more producing a very high fire threat that we've had the last couple of days but the good news, it is bringing a couple of showers with it. these are just scattered showers but we do have showers out there. this batch making it clear to the eastern shores and this one making it down from western pennsylvania. coming down toward cascade. there's a decent shower coming out of that one. switch it over and i'll show you anything we get at this point is needed. let's go back to the radar, the

showers are coming in. there's a chance for a couple of showers with that front. the other thing going on, the winds. this is the bad part that's going on. they've been averaging 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts over 30 miles per hour. now we do is a red flag warning in effect for pretty much the entire state through 8:00. winds will die down a little bit but tomorrow night it goes back into effect. because if you don't have the showers, gusty wind will continue. we topped out at 68 degrees but we're going below that average the next couple of afternoons as not only one but two fronts come our way from the north bringing that that cooler air. here are the scattered showers with this first one. that's going to continue tonight into tomorrow then another one comes our way on wednesday. so here's the first front, that gets out of here. here's the next one on wednesday.

maryland. good evening thanks for staying with wjz. here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. $9million. that is the bail set by a judge for two oklahoma men accused of shootings. >> reporter: a judge set bail at more than $100 million for two men accused of a shooting spree. >> it will give us sufficient time to look at the evidence and make a formal charging decision at the appropriate time. >> reporter: jake england and 32-year-old roommate alan watts will face two counts of first degree murder and other charges. they were arrested early sunday. two days after the shootings that all took place within a few miles of each other. all of the victims were black. prosecutors must decide if the case reaches the level of a hate crime. >> it's preliminary to determine what the motivation was behind this. if the evidence supporting that and we believe that we can prove those elements of a hate

crime, that will certainly be considered at the appropriate time. >> reporter: police say revenge could be a motive. england's father was shot and killed two years ago during an altercation with a black man. his girlfriend also killed himself a few years ago. he posted, today has been 10 years since my son was shot dead. i'm gone in the head. the suspects are scheduled to be back in court on sunday. manuel gallegus. >> as he said the men will be back in court monday. the u.s. navy starts handing out compensation checks to victims of the fighter jet crash in virginia beach. that will be enough to cover housing and clothing.

a fighter jet went down destroying dozens of apartments. fortunately none of the injuries were serious and no one has been killed. deadly violence in syria spread to neighboring countries taking more lives. activists say more than 80 people were killed today in homs and fighting has spread to lebanon and turkey. president assad says he will order his military out of the area. the commander of the rebel army says he will honor the u.n. troops. new international tension with north korea. the rogue nation is planning to launch a rocket carrying a satellite. but intelligence experts say it is a cover for testing new technology that could be used to launch a missell aimed at the united states. >> reporter: north korea could

be preparing for what could be a new nuclear test. north korean officials are digging a new tunnel at a site in the north eastern part of the country that was the site of nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009. the report comes as north korea prepares for a major missell launch. the country plans to launch a long range rocket later this week. officials in yang say this three stage rocket will put a satellite into orbit as part of their country's celebration marking 100 years since the death of their founder. the u.s., britain and other nations are urging north korea to cancel this week's launch. they say it violates u.n. resolution and they say it shows that north korea is walking away from their promise. >> the only path to a better

future for that country and its people to take the actions necessary to demonstrate that the country is living up to its promises. >> reporter: they're positions military equipment along the coast. tara mergener. in 2009, the world criticized a long range rocket launch by north korea, that led the country to walk away from nuclear negotiations with other nations. tonight baltimore county police are helping in the search for a missing teen from pennsylvania. 19-year-old max terox was last seen on thursday. police say his atm card was used at a 7-11 less than an hour after he disappeared. investigators are looking at surveillance video to determine who used the card. an indiana man is accused

findings of this brand new study. >> reporter: pregnant women who are obese or diabetic increase their chances of having a child with autism. a study looks at about 1,000 women. they also had double risk of having a child with another developmental disorder. >> there's a general feeling that some of the origins of autism are probably in the is developing at a very rapid rate. >> reporter: diabetic mothers were more than twe as likely to have a child with development delays and their children also scored lower. researchers say the results isconcerns since

two firefighters are killed in the line of duty in philadelphia. investigators say they were responded to a wildfire when a wall collapsed. this is the first time multiple firefighters have been killed on the same call in philadelphia since 2004. in chicago jury selection began in the trial of the man accused of killing the mother, brother and nephew of jennifer hudson. the star is expectedded to play a critical role. >> reporter: singer actress jennifer hudson was told her

mother, brother were murdered and her nephew was missing. she returned to chicago where a frantic search was on the way for julian. three days later the little boy's body was found inside this abandoned suv. he died of a gunshot wound. and a police investigation led to the arrest of 27-year-old william balfore. the hudson family knew william balfore quite well. he grew up here and ended up marrying jennifer hudson's sister julia. according to people who know the family the hudson's including jennifer didn't want julia to marry balfore. prosecutors say balfore killed his ex-wife's family members because he was jealous that she was seeing another man. the defense says there are no
